How to stop pain while breastfeeding?

I’ve been nursing my son for almost a month along with pumping but it almost seems like it’s getting worse pain wise. It got easier and then just recently it’s really started to hurt. Any suggestions/tips on how to help the pain? I get a decent amount of milk but it just hurts while I’m nursing him or pumping. I’m not sure if that means somethings wrong so just asking for some advice!

Check the latch of baby! And the flanges size on the pump. That’s usually the problem with pain assuming its nipple pain.

I would go to a lactation specialist. You also might go to your ob. It get be an infection. Hope it gets better

My friend had this experience and she had a blocked duct. Id check with OB/midwife possibly even primary doctor and be directed from there.

It’s not supposed to hurt. Does baby have a tongue or lip tie? I’d check with a lactation specialist.

Are you using any nipple cream ? I found that helped but I haven’t had to use any since about the two month mark it did get better. I would also check to make sure both of your son’s lips are flanged outward so he has a good latch. I’ve also found having the proper position while nursing helps. If baby isn’t close enough they might be pulling on your nipple. If it doesn’t get better or you’re worried I wound see a Lactation consultant or your doctor to check for issues. Yeast can also cause nipple pain.

Before you nurse or pump you could try the breast pads. There like little heating pads that fit around the breast but not on the nipple. They can also be cooled so that once you’re done they can easy any discomfort.
Pumping always was uncomfortable for me but I had to to help my milk production.

Massage the lumps out. It’s painful but the ducts have a block/clog. It won’t get any better without doing so… at least not before it gets worse. I had to pretty much massage mine for much of the 18 months I bf. Get used to rubbing those thangs!

See a lactation specialist as soon as you can

My guess is he’s not latching right

Are your nipples hurting or are you feeling pain inside your breast like maybe a lump or anything like that? Medela makes lanolin cream/oil that you put on your nipples before you pump. It’s safe for baby but it helps if it’s your nipples that are hurting. Check your flanges, you could have the wrong size. If you have pain inside your breast you may have a clog duct, you need to massage it out, really put some pressure on it when you pump or when you nurse. Don’t let it get too bad or it can turn into mastitis.

If your nipples are tender and you don’t have any breast shells, get some! Mine were so chapped and painful after having my son. I had milk blebs and my bra rubbed them and caused a lot of pain. One of the lactation nurses at the hospital brought me some breast shells and they are AMAZING. I can’t wear a bra without them now. My nipples have never been as tender as they were since I started using them. I ordered some Medela ones off of amazon and they’re great!

Like your nipple or your whole boob…?? Because if it’s just the nipple it may be painful due to chafing. I recommend Lansinoh. If it’s your “boob” MAYBE mastitis…but there’s normally swelling or fever in a particular area with that. You may be feeling “let down” when your breast actually fills with milk…it’s a little more painful for some women than others…but I’d definitely talk to your Dr or a breast feeding counselor, if you’re concerned. You best know your body.

Make sure he is latching on correctly or it will hurt

It hurts cause your breasts are full try pumping more

If it hurts in your back then definitely talk to your lactation specialist, you should be able to either make an appointment or go down the hospital same day and see one (at least that was offered where I gave birth, not sure if that’s like that everywhere else). My baby have both a lip and a tongue tie and even though I was told that it would hurt everytime we’ve gotten it down that it doesn’t when we latch correctly, which I correct immediately. Try sitting better, try a warm shower, but if it’s back pain I would get a second opinion hun. Best of luck!

I know I used to get constant clogged milk ducts. I would clear one up and two days later get another one. They mainly hurt during feeding or pumping.

Blocked duct thats what it calls. Hot compression could help and just dont stop nursing/pumping even if it hurts
