I am 13 weeks pregnant and have HG: Advice?

I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and diagnosed with (hg) excessive vomiting. Has anyone else experienced this? Anything you did that helped. I’ve been to the er twice and currently about to go again bc I can not hold any food or drink down.

I am so sorry, that is tough. I hope you start feeling better

I’m currently pregnant with my 4th hg baby, best medication for me and slot of other women is ondansatron or zofran if your from the states. It’s the same medication that patients that are going through chemotherapy use but it’s made me able to eat and drink more than I could without them. There is also a page on fb you can follow called hyperemesis gravidarum and there’s a lot of us on there that can maybe help with advice etc

So sorry I was the same for my 2nd pregnancy, praying for you, ginger is very good but be very careful to much is bad.

Zofran.
And I lived on animal crackers (not the shortbread kind). The slight sweetness helped me eat them and not get sick of them. Ginger Ale (warm) helped me can my stomach as best it could. I was a mess for 4 months with 2 pregnancies.

My wife had that with both our boys all the way up until 8 months. I remember dissolvable Zofran was a lifesaver!

They gave me unisom and b12 it worked somehow idk how

Oatmeal Square (brown sugar) cereal saved my life. I would keep the box by the side of my bed and before I even got out I would eat about a handful. Always helped me. Saltines, gingerale/squirt, ice cold water, I hate ginger but I heard that helps (they make hard candies).

Honestly for me I was allergic to all nausea medications besides Benadryl but never really could give me because it just makes you sleep all the time. I had to make multiple trips to urgent care or labor and delivery E.R for IV fluids and even then after about 3 hours I would still vomit
it all back out. Only thing I could hold down somewhat was crunch ice, chicken broth for pho and on good days white rice. I was diagnosed with it at 11 weeks and it continued until I was about 8 months pregnant. Best of luck hopefully nausea medication will work if haven’t been prescribed them already, they would have helped me wonders if I didn’t have reactions. Do not feel bad for going to E.R multiple times even if just for fluids. You and baby need the best and the vomiting is uncontrollable. Best of luck to you!! :sparkles:

I had hg on my first pregnancy. Also found out the hard way I’m allergic to zofran. Not a fan of ginger ale lol. What helped me was peppermint candies or preggie pops (found at walmart on the “mom” section where they have lactation stuff)

Zofran didn’t work for me. Ask your OB about Bonjesta! Medication did wonders.

Sucking on peppermints or chewing mint gum helped and so did the dissolvable zofran

Mine has been horrible with my son! They put me on meds, talk to your dr, if you’re not already taking anything for it. I went to the hospital once and the L&D nurse saved me a trip to the ER and told me to eat ice chips until I felt like eating something light such as the BRAT diet. Don’t drink too much liquid adds to the acid volume. Even water. Watermelon is easy to throw up, and a light snack. Sometimes it’s easier to just get it over with once. I slept all day and only ate ice and lightly sipped water

I was! I was in the hospital overnight a couple times- the longest being 5 days straight from it. I was losing weight and couldn’t even keep any water down, no liquids no foods. Had to get IVs from the hospital to replenish my water and sugar levels, eventually the only thing that worked for me was a combination of Zofran, Diclectin and gravel in between the doses when I maxed out my daily intake from Zofran. The Diclectin on its own did zero for me, it was only working when combined with Zofran (anti nausea med commonly used in chemotherapy patients). Zofran was a lifesaver, once I got that combined with the others I was able to keep some food down and keep water down most of the time with the meds. It’s brutal and it’s even worse when people compare it to regular “morning sickness”. Not the same thing AT ALL so I feel for you :two_hearts: you’ll get through this though mama!

Yup! This was me for sure! Definitely talk to your doctor about zofran (although if memory serves me correctly, I don’t think you can take it until at least 16 weeks?) see if your doctor can refer you to an HG clinic (or if your local hospital even has one) - they were wonderful and when I was so dehydrated and couldn’t keep anything down I went there and got an IV which really helped. Once you are able to get hydrated again (probably with an IV if you’re going to the hospital) just try and always be constantly eating and drinking something. Even if all you can eat is chips - eat the chips. If you can continually have something in your tummy it can help stop the nausea. Good luck! I know how hard this is!!

Yup  im 33 weeks on baby No 2 had it both pregnancies, im on prochlorperazine and 5mg and phenergan 10mg both 4x times a day! They really do help though!

I was on medication, but I also ate jolly ranchers or some sort of hard candy. The constant sucking seemed to counteract the gagging reflex for me. I feel for you though, I hated pregnancy because of this.

I had that as well both pregnancies zofran and ask about the pill with a little pregnant woman on them it’s called diclegus (unsure of spelling but I tried) it saved my life but if you dont have insurance or your insurance wont pay for it it is pretty pricey.

Went through same with mine, it got better bit by bit after i hit second trimester. Nothing helped me

Try these! Love these bad boys, you can get them on Amazon

Lifesavers mints in the blue bag. Only thing that helped me as the other meds were an epic fail and my doctor will no longer prescribe zofram due to a link to links to cardiac issues in fetuses whose mommas were given it. I still deal with it for days on end and the mints are the only thing I found. They recommended sea bands, but they push on pressure points and I have fibromyalgia.

diclegis was a life saver. I combined with ginger for first pregnancy and lemons helped in second.

Literally nothing helped me with my daughter except nibbling on a pickle & drinking the juice. Helped my sickness so much!

I had severe HG when pregnant with my first 2. I could barely eat and lost weight until the last month and a half or so of my pregnancy. I ate brown sugar oatmeal and toast a lot. I craved potatoes of all kinds constantly so when I could handle it I would eat that as well.

Smoke some pot only thing that keeps me from vomiting. Got sick 6 times this am before I caved and smoked. Now I’m fine. Tired but I can eat and drink now.

Talk to your doctor about a PICC line if it is severe. Vitamin B injections helped me some

I did, I was miserable my whole pregnancy nothing really helped. Hope you can find something that helps you.

Zofran and phenergan were the only things that helped me. I had to get IV infusions.

Apples, toast, gingerale, gatorade, rice, take gravol when needed

This was me for 6 months of my pregnancy. Was in and out of the er also. Only gained 7lbs my whole pregnancy. That’s how much my baby weighed lol. So gained nothing. I even had to go on medical leave for a month and a half because I would always be throwing up and I had placenta previa on top of that. The only thing that helped was Diclegis! Tried other nausea meds and didn’t work. Diclegis worked miracles

Had the same thing , didn’t go away until I was 7 months pregnant , foods don’t help , ginger candy doesn’t help , the only thing that helped me was a medicine call “diglegis” it’s a miracle pill:sob::sob::heart::heart::heart::sob: you have to ask your doctor to get prescribed and it doesn’t affect your baby or anything

Nothing worked for me with any of my pregnancies

I had it my entire pregnancy. I was in the hospital off and on for months. I would get a week or two breaks from vomiting but I came out of my pregnancy 40 lbs less than what I started. The only thing that helped me was getting the IV

My daughter had this. She was told to eat small amounts every hour and to sip her drink every 20 minutes. It got her through.

Zofran ODT and Phenergan, even throughout the night. Stay on schedule, set alarms if you have to, never miss a dose. to be honest though, sometimes there are going to be days where even that won’t help. Those were what I called “my bad days” , admitted to the er for days from dehydration and malnutrition. The fluids will help and so will the iv nausea meds.

Luckily I didn’t vomit while pregnant with my daughter. But, my was nausea was so bad in the first trimester that all I drank and ate was chamomile tea, juice, crackers, and noodles

Eventually I had to get home health care for IVs but was placed on medication called Diclegis and it was AMAZING. I didn’t puke anymore. I was still a bit nauseous but no puking!
And no vitamin B 6 or 12 I forgot and unisom didn’t work at all for me which is kinda what diclegis is.

This helped me. Hope it helps you.

They expect if to stop at 16 weeks and mine didn’t. I had it with all four of my boys. Zofran pump did save me though! But other than that I have no idea what will help. Nothing helped me, other than the pump.

Beyond meds (which all have their unpleasant side effects and risks but can work for some people - zofran Phenergan diclegis) Small amounts of food and hydration often. Staying in bed as much as possible (I did it for three, it’s ridiculous but you gotta try) my last pregnancy I used ice breaker sours as something to suck on often or when I would start to feel like vomiting was eminent. I had them stashed everywhere. Sometimes it would distract me enough to keep everything down, sometimes I still threw up. And time. It sucks, but it has an expiration date for sure when the baby comes. Hang in there, try to find joy where you can, it’s so hard!!

I was on medication. And ginger ale helped me. Since i cant keep the water down and have a big can beside me. To spit and vomit and small cup to spit when going outside

I had it with all 3 pregnancies, was prescribed 3 different medications (zofran, phenergan and diclegis), hospitalized soo many times and lost a lot of weight. Even water made me sick. Unfortunately nothing worked for me. It got slightly better towards the end of pregnancy but never subsided. I know for many people, it eases up within the 2nd trimesters so hopefully it does for you too

I had it for about 4 months, sour candies and fruit helped, my doctor told me to eat small throughout the day. Unisom also helped too.

Yup. Same here. Stopped after 3 months though.

Had it with all 4 pregnancies, before I was given Zofran, I took a vitamin b6 and a half a unisom. List a lot of weight, called it my best weight loss program, and all 4 babies were healthy and happy. Baby#1G was 6.8lbs total weight lost 20 lbs. and 11 days early, baby#2B was 8.8lbs total weight loss was 15 lbs. and 1 day late, baby#3B was 7.8lbs total weight loss 8lbs. and right on due date, baby#4G was 7.5 lbs total weight loss 2lbs. and was 1 week early.

If you truly are desperate for relief and nothing works smoke marijuana. I am telling you I’ve had 3 pregnancy with hg was hospitalized at least 3x s week. I was skin and bones before I tried marijuana. I have always been against smoking while pregnant but when you see yourself literally dieing The body feeling that comes with hyperemesis when you have nothing left to throw up but your own blood and you have children to care for who are watching you deteriorating also you will do anything for relief. Zofrsn promethazine nothing works. I got discharged from hospital still puking everytime they could never stabilize me nor want you in there during covid being told well your pregnant  after smoking my nausea which is out of this world subsided and I stopped puking which I was doing every 20 mins also gained an appetite. I eat and it stays down. I drink and it stays down. Please to save you and your babies life try marijuana and I promise you will be able to manage. Hg is The hardest thing to ever go through and nobody truly understands unless you’ve been through a severe bout. Also next time you trying to conceive or think you are pregnant get diclegis through your system and you will not be sick at all. Once you’re able to keep things down start taking diclegis it works and you don’t want to be smoking whole pregnancy due to dcf. Wish they could see what we go through and all benefits of marijuana during this severe condition.

I had this, they gave me Zofran. It really helped. It was a terrible pregnancy but Zofran took me through.

Ginger tea, cbd gummis, benadryl - it did better than zofran, sprite, eat very small meals but a bunch a day. I had HG 4 times

I had this until about 16 weeks. My dr prescribed hydration clinic (infusion)- I went 3x’s week and it helped. I couldn’t keep water down and blood pressure was low because of the dehydration. I did eat a ton of apples and it was the only thing that didn’t come back up.

I didn’t even develope HG until around 11 weeks and it persisted until 23 weeks. Nothing I tried helped. I ended up in the hospital getting 2 bags of fluid at once a couple of times. I just drank Gatorade and hydration+ packets mixed in water between times so i would get a little bit of hydration in before i started vomiting again

Ask about a medication you can take to help with that. Zofran is what they gave me at it worked wonders. I hate to get fluids twice because I couldn’t hold anything down not even fluid

My first pregnancy that’s all I did, from 4 weeks to 39 weeks. Absolutely nothing helped. I just ate when I could. I was in the er every two weeks getting fluids. It was a joke. Now I’m on pregnancy number 2 & the vommiting stopped after 20 weeks… was relieved!
