I am at a loss about what illness my daughter has: Advice?

I have a question regarding my nine-month-old and illness. It has been a month now, and she started with a cold. No big deal, but then her breathing was off, so took her in, and the doctor prescribed an inhaler. Said it was bronchiolitis and borderline RSV. I started to get a better week, and a half later went back for a wellness check, and her lungs were clear, and he thought we were right, but she was still coughing. By last Friday, she was coughing hard again, so brought her in, and he said it turned into bronchitis. He put her on an antibiotic, azithromycin. Her breathing seems better but still has a nasty cough and now is running a fever. I know a fever can be good to show it’s fighting, but should it becoming on four days after starting antibiotics? I’m at a loss to what is really going on with her. Anyone experience anything similar?

How long after her last vaccine did she get like this?

I would just keep taking her in until you get some answers and she starts feeling better. And also I’m allergic to azithromycin and found out by my symptoms getting worse instead of better so maybe she needs a different antibiotic?

Ask for a different antibiotic… azithromycin does not work for my son at all. Also at that age they may start cutting teeth which would also cause a fever and a runny nose sometimes so it may be unrelated to her original diagnosis as well

NO! Take her back in now! My daughter frequently gets bronchitis though she’s 3. She ran a fever after the antibiotics because it rolled into RSV which can and will kill. Take her back in. In my experience healing from bronchitis takes as much as 3 weeks to fully stop seeing/experiencing symptoms.

Fever goes with a infection

Warm bath, vicks, and warm tea with little honey, sometimes home remedies work better.

Do NOT use Vicks on your child! The turpentine in it thins their delicate skin.

Fever does accompany infection. But fever shouldn’t be present after 4 days on antibiotics if the prescribed antibiotics are actually treating the issue. With fever surfacing at this point in the process I’d take her back. Especially with how prevalent the flu and RSV already is this year.

Get her tested for Pertussis my daughter started out with a simple cold seemed like doctors would tell me it was the flu then strep then bronchitis and she worsened to the point where she was hardly able to breath turned out she had pertussis and because she didn’t get treated in time nothing they gave her would help we had to let this horrible illness run it’s course and it took her 6 months to get to a point where she could breath well. Now she has life long effects due to them misdiagnosing her the 5 times I took her to the doctors.

Take her to the ER. Also she should be on a nebulizer not an inhaler. A 9 month old doesn’t have the ability to take in an inhaler correctly. Probably needs a stronger antibiotic

My grand daughter is 4 and a half and we just went through this with her. Started 2 days before Halloween and she just went back to school yesterday.

I had a child just like this. They ended up putting him on albuterol syrup 3 times a day and it actually worked. First thing that actually did

Is she coughing? My son ended up with Coup cough at 6 months and that can last for 6 to 8 weeks. I was so on edge because of his breathing and congestion.

Pls take baby to ER immediately. My son had gone thru same symptoms i thought it was the flu but the fever made me worried. He was admitted for bronchitis last week. Discharged but still on meds…but doing much better oh he also had a few sessions with the physio to get excess mucus out of his lungs.

Take.her.to your nearest.childrens.hospital and dont leave until shes admitted.this shouldnt.be.on.going persistent cough fever.it could be pneumonia taken her to the hospital no hesitation

Bronchitis can last up to 3 weeks even with meds. Gotta let it run its course unfortunately

Did she by any chance aspirate merconium while she was being born. My daughter did and i had a hell of a time for the first year with her lungs

Where I am there’s a very nasty viral infection going around. My grandbaby was treated with Amoxil and then Zythromax as well (being in the Amoxil) Nothing treated her infection either. It lasted about a month or so! They used Zithromax in case it was whooping cough. She just had to gradually get better on her own. RSV is a virus, there’s not borderline. Shes positive or she’s not how did he create an in-between.

I’d take her back to a children’s ER. The antibiotics aren’t working and you don’t mess around with breathing issues. Better to be safe and have them give a nebulizer, Ventolin treatment. Good luck!

Some of the flu’s are lasting 4-6 weeks. I came down sick and had a cough for 6 weeks and I was on antibiotics, you just have to let it run its course unfortunately

Seems a bit strange for a fever to come 4 days after antibiotics. Call and talk to the nurse and ask them to do a chest xray. It’s so hard with young kids because one day they are fine and the very next they are sick. My daughter use to get a fever and then an ear infection so I would take her in for a check and they would say shes fine I would literally have to turn around, bring her back in and then she would have a double ear Infection. I hated when my kids were too little to tell me what hurt it’s the worst when they get sick.

See a DR and not take advice from the internet.

Have them check her for constricted airway disease

Take her a warm bath with some alcohol in it. It help my kids alot and putting cotton with alcohol under their armpits. Also used vaporub in their back instead of the chest.

Go to a new dr… it sounds like she has the croup

Go back to her pediatrician . Happened to my daughter before too and he ordered amoxicillin for her to take for 14 days . Sometimes that can have a stubborn bacterial infection and need longer treatments

Get her back to the ER asap.
Bronchial infection can become pneumonia quickly if the antibiotics are not working. My daughter ended up in intensive care with a collapsed lung at 5 months old due to a GP giving wrong antibiotics and not enough Prednisolone to keep her airways clear.
Get her to the hospital ASAP please

The cough will take a while to clear.
My 11 month d was hospitalized for a month with this at 9 wks and got it again last month. Im pretty seasoned by now.
The fever is fighting a virus which she has.

Not everyone runs a fever when they have an infection. Neither I, or my three children ever run fevers. We’ve had flu, chicken pox, ear infections ect never have any of us run a fever.

Has there been any history of cystic fibrosis? It’s a long shot, however, I saw my sister in law go through this same process. Tons and tons of mucous, wheezing, bronchitis, asthma. Finally both she and her husband were tested and both of them carried the chromosomal mutation for cystic fibrosis. It was an eye opener for the doctor. They had a daughter later on and she did not have it.

Girl… My 7 month old had a cough for 9 weeks. 9. But no fever. I would go to a children’s hospital.

Bronchitis takes along time to get rid of. Do you have a humidifier and maybe a small fan to circulate air in room. Both my children sleep with fans and they have asthma

A breathing treatment 2 or 3 times a day for so many days will help clear it up.Go on Pinterest & look up at home remedies. You will be surprised how fast at home remedies & essential oils will clear things up faster than always giving prescription or over the counter medicines.

Did they prescribe a Nebulizer with Albuterol?

Is asthma a possibility or allergies? Definitely see a pediatrician and another and another until someone can give definite answers

Is she exposed to BLACK MOLD? Have her tested and start looking for it…it is not something you want around you. She could have allergies also to certain food, dust or other things, get her tested.

Please have them run bloodwork for sepsis.

Never heard of borderline RSV. You either have it or u dont. Have her tested again. Might have been to soon to show up. Runny nose??? Chest xray to rule out pneumonia

This whole house of mine had this same issue. Most of us have gotten better, then got bad again then got better and it just lingers a bit. Whatever we all got has been a pain and with little lungs, whatever it is seems worse for little ones. Sounds like you’re doing everything you can and it will pass.

Not being negative please have her tested for Cystic Fibrosis. Hope n pray negative. My so was healthy n great for the first 4yrs and has it…

I went through this EXACT same situation with my second daughter. After about 6 months, she was diagnosed with reactive airway disease. She needed a nebulizer and albuterol. We had to take out carpets, change her sheets daily, and separate her from the dog. Her cough was triggered by dust mites and dander.

Take the baby to a pulmonary doctor. And an allergy doctor.
All doctors don’t know everything.

Yeah I’d either do a specialist (pulmonary) or just do an ER visit and insist you need answers.

Do you have a Childrens Hospital near you? Go there to the ER and get a second opinion

Go back to a Doctor. Better safe than sorry.

There is something in your house she is allergic too, pets, candles, detergent, etc.

Advice: dont ask a FB group called “My husband is a blessing”

I would definitely take her back to the pediatrician. Does she go to daycare? If so, she may picked up another virus. I hope your daughter feels better soon.

Yes my grandbabies had it and its a long haul to get better almost two months

Ya go get her checked for pneumonia

Have you tried a vaporizer in her bedroom when mine were little i put a vaporizer in their bedroom with vicks only with vicks dont take her outside alot of dr say cool mist but i always used a steamer n made a tent over their cribs it broke their chest congestion n they get the mucous out

Go to a different doctor for another opinion

Take her to the Er have her checked for phnuemonia

RSV can have the cough last for months. But yes no such thing as boarder line RSV. My son had it at 5 Months old and ended up hospitalised. Take her to a 2nd doctor and let them know what’s all been done and get a 2nd opinion.

The antibiotics keep working for 10 days

Unfortunately with those diagnoses, the cough can linger for many weeks after. Try a humidifier.
We have seen a lot of flu and rsv lately.
If you do go back to see your ped dr, ask them to do a pertussis check, we have seen a couple cases of whooping cough with rsv
Best of luck to you
Hope she gets better soon

I have a former preemie who’s prone to bronchiolitis, I’d go right to the hospital. They know how to handle these things much better than your pediatrician.

Take her back in and express your concerns. RSV can get worse and lead to other problems such as ear infections and such. Tell them she now has a fever so they do some more investigating. She might need a stronger antibiotic.

Have chest x-rays done to rule out pnumonia. Sometimes bronchitis can become pneumonia.

Go back to pedi and ask for tests…maybe test her sputum. Shouldn’t have fever. Maybe she caught another virus.

anyone smoke cigarettes or cigars around her? if so, STOP it now and she will clear up quickly

Sounds like she has asthma
My son was like that too.
Go to a good pulmonologist
Pneumonia will do the same thing and it keeps returning
Best of luck
Hope she gets better soon

Coughs can take up to 6 weeks to fully clear. Even with antibiotics it still takes time for the cough to reside. As long as her breathing isn’t stressed and doctors aren’t worried, she’s eating drinking playing fine ECT then more than likely she’s fine. If your too concerned go back to the doctor.

Try give her lemonade water or melt lemon dropps to dry up cough

9months And she is that sick
U need to find a better doctor

Pneumonia. Ask for chest X-ray.

Take her to a pediatrician for infant children

Oh dear! Hope she’s better soon and you can get to the bottom of this.

And have you looked into it might be fall allergies?? I have read all these comments and they sound right definitely chest x Ray to make sure and scents in the home can hurt breathing just as bad as cigarettes and vaping. But coughs do take a while to clear up. And you can all ways get a lemon warm it and then squeeze the juice in a cup with a spearmint mint. Make sure it mix’s together. That can help alot. It could be whooping cough if you haven’t been vaccinated or any one your child has been around recently. I figure the inhaler had abuterol.

Ask for a X-ray for the lungs

Talk to them about abuterol. I’m not sure how it’s spelled. Son went through the same and it definitely helped. They can give it like a inhaler and will attach to a tube with a mouth piece

Pneumonia not nice
At 7 I had double pneumonia
Brain temperature hit has high as 103
I was already hulicating seeing monster floating the air coming right at me

Both my girls (3yo and 19 months) had what We thought was a stomach bug, the the fevers went on and off for weeks—no cough, but it turned out to be pneumonia.
With the coughing, is she congested at all?

Ask to test for pertussis/whooping cough. My daughter got sick when she was about 8 months old and was sick for 4 months, and the doctors always told me it was an ear infection or just a cold. After 27 different doctor visits and 5 different doctors, we found out that she had whooping cough that was almost fatal in my daughters case.

If Tylenol does not break fever then something else is going on. The cough sounds normal bc it can take up to several weeks to clear and the antibiotics should clear infections. But a fever that does not break means something else is going on. My son was 3m and had a fever for 4 days. I would give him Tylenol and 1 hr later he would be burning, I would get sent back from the er and told it was normal but I knew it wasn’t. Ayer the third visit I stood and screamed in the middle of the er that I wanted a pediatrician to come down and examine him. Well they finally listen after I threaten to sue and sure enough the pediatrician notices a slight bump on his neck that I didn’t even notice bc he was a chunky baby. Turned out to be an abscess that had staph and he had to have surgery to remove and clean it. I’m not trying to scare you but if you think something is wrong not settle/ it doesn’t matter who thinks u r crazy. We have to be the voice of our little ones
