I am concerned about my stitches: Advice?

I’m really concerned about my perineal stitches. When I walk, they burn to the point of tears—no other sign of infection. I know I have very low pain tolerance, but I expected after a few days, it would get easier, not harder. Is this common? When can I expect relief? Any suggestions to help with the pain? I already have an ice pack, and I ordered a donut to sit on.

Go get some of that spray that you can spray down there, I would assume that would help until they come out

The pain isn’t going to go away in a couple of days its going to be least a week or two before the pain get better if its causing so much pain I recommend going to the doctor to see if that’s completely normal or not

Lidocaine spray was a life saver for me. If I were you I’d call your OB if you’re in that much pain though.

Get somewitch hazel pads. Place them on top of your menstrual pad and wear it that way. And the numbing spray.

It’s gonna be a week or two. I was in pain for 5 weeks but witch hazel and lidocaine spray worked wonders for me you can go get checked too if you’re hurting that bad I did twice

They take awhile to feel better. As they heal you will feel tightening and stinging, it’s all normal.

you should really be asking your doctor this

Washing the area with ivory soap 2-3 times a day will help.

Get tucks pads they are a lifesaver!! I had the same problem!!

I’ve had stitches down there twice- once from surgery and once a couple weeks later from childbirth. Both were doctor cuts so they were clean and not tears. Lidocaine spray and take tucks pad put them in the freezer and place them in your pads they were a life saver. If you feel something isn’t right contact your midwife.

Mine were the same so when my midwife came when baby was few days old she swobbed them and it came back that I had an infection in them. I was cut for forceps and then tore aswel so I was in absolute agony from how many stitches I had. I really underestimated how bad it was going to be if I could turn back the clock I would of never had forceps just for that reason…5 months on and they still sting at times. Get onto your midwife or doctor xx

The spray they give you made me burn really bad so I would place a towel in a warm bath and sit on it twice a day, talk to your doctor about it hurting so badly.

I had pain for days and days I went back to the ob and insisted they take a look turns out one of the stitches was left long and stabbing me!!! They had to trim the excess stitch material and then all was golden. I recommend getting the spray also.

I spent a lot of time soaking in a warm bath

Padsicles!!! I swear by them! Freeze with aloe Vera and witch hazel inside of them! Also use Dermoplast pain relieving spray and dose the inside of padsicle before you use it! Don’t be afraid to use an ice pack as well (wrapped in a towel so it doesn’t get too cold)

Many many warm as you can tolerate sitz baths with epsom salts and SOAK. Tylenol if that is something you can take. It’ll get better.

Whatever you do don’t wipe there if you are, get a squirt bottle to clean yourself and use warm water. I noticed if I even wiped once I’d feel sore, also pee does burn so using the water to make sure it’s all washed away helps. Soak yourself in a bath, I found a relaxing bath with salt made me feel great.

The peri bottle with solution and warn water, the Tucks pads

So I had this happen for 6 weeks and thought it was normal eveeyone told me just use witch hazel pads and ice and spray but turns out my body was rejecting one of the stitches I wasn’t infected or anything but my body didn’t heal properly where the stitch rejected so it was hurting more even thougjt it basically looked normal. I’d see ur dr and ask just to make surr

I described that as the pain worse
Than giving birth!!! Be sure to use the squirt bottle with warm water often!

Sitting in hot water was the only thing that gave me relief

Tucks pads (witch hazel) saved my life

Salt water baths, pour warm not hot water down there when peeing and hold a clean folding sanitary pad against it when going for a number 2

Call your doctor to get checked out. Chances are there’s nothing wrong, but better to be safe than sorry. It’s expected to be quite sore for a while. You did just give birth and had stitches put in in a very sensitive area.

witch hazel and aloe vera frozen in a pad really helped me!

Get you some witch hazel from the store and those extra large round flat facial pads soak them in a small container, even put them in the frig! Slap them up there every time you use the bathroom! Always use the unscented baby wipes to keep the other areas clean ! Believe me I had a 9lb 1 oz 22 inch baby boy 34 years ago! Good luck.

Warm Salt water baths will increase the circulation to that area and increase healing time.

Tucks and a warm water bottle you can spray down there .

Get dermablast, spray on pain killer, rinse everytime you pee, soak in epsom salt bath

Lidocaine spray. Drug stores sell it. The hospitals here send you home with some.

Take painkillers salt baths and there is a spray sell it in boots can’t remember the name of it x

Oddly enough, they no longer recommend donuts to sit on. It can actually cause more stretching in that area. My doctor prescribed an estrogen cream, which I was able to use once I was a few days postpartum. I definitely had that same burning sensation, and even as it healed I felt like that area was stitched to my leg… It was so tight and always had nerve pain. The estrogen cream really helped loosen that area up. Keep icing and using dermaplast! It took me almost 2 weeks for the burning sensation to subside. I even had to fill my RX for pain meds a few days after I got home because it hurt so bad! Feel better soon, and CONGRATS!!

800 mg ibuprofen and lidocaine spray. It’s going to be really sore for awhile but that will at least help with the pain and inflammation.

If you are in that much pain you need to call your doctor and be seen.

Call ur doctor!
Could be a reaction to the stitches themselves. They will be able to advise you on exactly what you should be doing.

I would call the doctor. I had 2 infections and couldn’t move for 2 weeks after birth and the infections were dissolving the stitches!!

Oh my God this was the worst for me! I want to say week 3 pp was absolutely the most uncomfortable because I couldn’t sit down or walk without feeling like my whole cooch was on fire! Witch hazel and lidocaine spray were my go to! Arount that time I had my Incision check and no infection and everything was healing normally. Why does healing have to suck so bad?:joy:

Dermablast. Best shit ever!

Witchhazel for sure. I didn’t have stitches but I was in your spot for about 9 days. The middle being when the pain really set in.

The hospital gave me a can of Dermoplast to use and take home. Just don’t use inside.

Definitely ice, tucks, and dermoplast

Sit in a little warm water and use tucks pad that have been put in the refrigerator it has witch hazel in it

Try tucks hemorrhoid pads just leave them on it and I found a sitz bath felt wonderful and helped

Take maxi pads squirt witch Hazel & aloe Vera on them. Put them in the freezer. Do this overnight. Take one out of the freezer & put in your undergarments. You’ll feel so much better. The cold will help w the pain, which will help in the healing process :100:

I had pain for about 3 weeks. I was using a rinse bottle, witch hazel pads, even started peeing in a cup because it burned so bad. come to find out it was the pads I was using. I had to use plain cloth depends. Always has alot of chemicals in them to make them super absorbent. I never had an issue with the brand but it aggitated my stitches.

Fill a peri bottle with warm water and just squirt it. That’s what I did after I had my daughter

There’s a pain relieving spray you can use Derma something and witch hazel pads!

All the prior advice was helpful for me. I, also, found that using the perineal rinse bottle and soaking in Epsom salts to be beneficial. And, no wiping…just in case you haven’t been told.

Dermaplast for sure! Wouldn’t hurt to call ob and get checked. Perineal infections are quite common

Lidocaine spray. I’d call the ob and ask for a prescription.

Put witch hazel pads on the stitches and then use a lamp to warm them so they dry it will relieve it so much

Freeze the witch hazel pads and apply after the extra strength dermoplast! I had 22+ stitches and it saved me :hugs:

Maybe try ibuprofen to keep inflammation down

shower often, ibuprofen round the clock as long as it’s safe for you, and dermoplast. i had pain for 2 weeks and had 1 spot that remained painful for another 2 weeks following.

Tucks pads are witch hazel and perfect size.

I think the area is probably dry and irritation happens when stitches are there.I hope they sent you home with the deadening spray.

Walgreens might carry in store. 20 years ago, they gave me a can in the hospital and let me take it home after childbirth.

try this. it’s heaven.

GO :clap:GET:clap:CHECKED:clap:IMMEDIATELY
You just had a baby, you are tired and could be missing signs of something serious (stitches coming out, infection, etc)

Witch hazel pads! They work wonders and speed up healing!

My trick when I would pee was to lean to the side my sticks weren’t at and pulled my side down there a lil so the pee didn’t touch me and warm water bottle spray on you as u pee or after. Numbing spray freeze a diaper and wear it like a pad.
