I am on birth control and got a positive pregnancy test...advice?

I am on birth control pills, and I found out that I am pregnant by taking a pregnancy test. How true can this be?

Confirm with blood work, always.
I ALWAYS have positive first response testsā€¦ Even when Iā€™m not pregnant.

I was on the 3 months shot got pregnant w my daughter after 3 yrs then I got on the once a month shot and got pregnant with my son 3 yrs later after my son I said ok bc not working well with me so I had my tubes tied so far so good 18 yrs later still not pg :laughing:

Though it is rare to get a false positive it did happen to me. The following test were negative so take more than one.

So many women get pregnant on the pill. You have to take it perfectly for it to work perfectly. Always use two forms of birth control just incase ( like the pill and condoms )
But, I would contact your doctor and have a blood test doneā€¦

Pill isnā€™t as accurate as people like to believe it is. All 5 of my friends mothers children were conceived on the pill.
I also just had a chemical pregnancy with the implant so no contraceptives are ever guaranteed

Itā€™s very rare to get a false positive, but a lot of women have gotten pregnant while on birth control. The percentage of reliability listed for different forms of birth control refers to when it is taken/used perfectly and I donā€™t believe any of them are listed as 100% effective, so even if you do everything right or have a form of birth control that doesnā€™t require any effort on your end, there is always a possibility of getting pregnant-which is why (along with std protection)most doctors recommend using another form of birth control; I.e condoms, in addition to whatever other birth control you are using. I would just set up an appointment with your o.b to have it confirmed.

I know someone who was on BC and used a Condom and still got pregnant.

I had the IUD for 3 years I went to get checked got a routine pregnancy test and it came back positive I was 16 at the time this was in 2016
I got the implant in 2019 in 2020 I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 this was in 2020.
2 months later I tried a different IUD
Went well until in 2022 I had my 3rd baby
Started taking the depot shot never missed an appointment
I just brought my sweet little boy home 2 weeks ago.

Birth control just some times donā€™t work on some people

Have you taken antibiotics? They override birth control.
Have you taken it religiously?
If the brand is FRER or a blue dye it could be a false positive.
Overall itā€™s entirely possible as birth control is not 100% effective.

Your best bet is to call an OBGYN and say youā€™ve gotten a positive and then see if they do too. Good luck!

Antibiotics will interfere with birth controls, also if youā€™ve had surgery recently, they use a medicine that can affect your birth control. They told me to use condoms for 2 weeks after my surgery last month.
