I am pregnant and everything I eat leaves a bad taste in my mouth: Advice?

I am currently six months pregnant, and every time I eat, everything leaves me a bad aftertaste. It’s to the point where I feel like I ate plastic (which I don’t, lol). I crave cereal, but milk also leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I need help. Will this ever go away, or will I have the nasty tastes after birth.?? Never had this happen with my other previous pregnancy.

I had this at the beginning of all my pregnancies and its nothing to do with brushing your teeth its normal to taste metallic while pregnant 3i told my own doctor this time round and I got sent to get a covid test even though I know its nothing to do with Covid because taste of metallic is normal pregnancies symptom.

Have you vitamin levels checked. Sometimes tasting or craving weird things can mea a vitamin deficiency.

My daughter had this with her second pregnancy. It typically goes away toward the end, but if not it definitely resolves after the baby is born.

I went thru that in the beginning of my pregnancy. No matter what i ate or drink it left a nasty after taste. Brushing my teeth didn’t help either. It mostly went away but i still find that some things , like orange juice leaves a funky taste in my mouth .

I had it till about 18 weeks if pregnancy. The only thing that helped was the ginger mints from trader joes

Following…8 months pregnant and going through the same thing.

Definitely get your vitamin levels checked. You are missing something that is needed…

Its normal. I had this for a good bit of my pregnancy. It did eventually go away but I had to chew on hard candies (peppermint or butterscotch) and sometimes I’d eat pickles just to get a break from the metal taste.

My entire pregnancy with my daughter was like that but it wasn’t a after taste like plastic it was always something just terrible to the point I would vomit or Sometimes I would have to eat something else to help it a little. I hope you’s doesn’t last your entire pregnancy and you get some relief soon.

Go get your iron looked at.

Possibly you are taking and medication or vitamin that can alter the taste of thing. I’d check into the side effects of any meds and vitamins your taking

Happened with 1 of my 4 pregnancies but I’ve also had a medication cause that. Definitely talk to your dr

I would suck on lemon drops or cinnamon candy. Or something that sounds good to you. I had that bad taste also but went away after birth. Good luck.

Low iron I am assuming. I had the same thing for the entire pregnancy. Gum and mints were the only answer

I only had weird tastes if I had tums. I had nasty heartburn and took tums…I had to stop because I couldn’t eat, made me want to puke. Delt with nasty heartburn for 7 months.

For me it was a metallic taste for 9 months. Went away as soon as I gave birth.

Usually all issues like tasting , smelling, itching, nausea ect. Disappear after giving birth sometimes immediately.so this shall pass…

Are you unusually also eating /craving ice. My dr told me cause my iron was low . Go talk to your dr he might find nothing or your low somewhere. Babies take a lot out of our bodies , but it’s all worth it !!!

Ugh I was like that too. It’ll get better. Chew gum and eat mints.

I also have that taste it feels horrible I chew on bubblegum

Experiment with other milk, oat, almond, coconut, half and half etc

I spent one pregnancy eating only maltomeal and ice. We all lived through it. 8hr labor and a eight lb eight oz child.

My niece had an issue with her first pregnancy where she couldn’t tolerate her own saliva. She wouldn’t swallow. She carried paper cups around with her everyday and would spit into it instead of swallowing. Grossed me right out. I don’t remember how she managed to eat.

I had the same thin with the last one just a horrible taste in my mouth no matter what. I tried to cut back on milk and cheese that I was told to do by my doctor. No change. It was a metallic like stale flavor, but stale isn’t the right word either. It didn’t go away until I had my son :pensive:

It has happened to me in all pregnancies, my dr gave me some pills but they usually give them to people who are going through chemo… I honestly got scared and stopped them, just eat sour things,it will help …

I had it with my second pregnancy. Everything had a horrible metallic taste to it. My doctor said it was because of hormones and to eat sour/citrus things to help. It finally went away for me after a week

I had this all throughout my last pregnancy. It was the worst. Went away as soon as I gave birth.

Normal for me with all 4

I would ask for some blood work to be done. You may be missing certain nutrients and its how your body is letting you know.

I have the same issue. I have to chew gum, use mouth wash, brush or eat mints after every meal to get rid of the aftertaste.

i had this issue for about a month, turned out it was a mixture of strep & morning sickness😅!

Drink lots of water I had the same problem.

tell your ob if you have one.
There’s a few things that could be indicating.

In the meantime you cooks try eating almonds, it’s not scientific, but antidotally I know a lot of people that it’s helped with heart burn and indigestion and unless you’re allergic, there’s not anything eating some almonds will hurt

When ur pregnant a lot of weird things happen that can’t really be explained

I bought hard candy like the old fashioned kind that had flavors like Clove and Anise. It kept the taste down and the nausea too.

I get this with my last 2 pregnancies. It’s normal and mine was associated with morning sickness. If you’re not on meds for it maybe try taking some!

Might be low iron or gestational diabetes…definitely talk to your doctor about it

You could be dehydrated drink lemon water

Have you had your iron levels checked? This happened to me and itv was because of my levels being off, I also have no thyroid though so there is a difference. There is a great group on fb called the new mom life that helps with advice and ideas as well

I had that have them check ur levels just incase but mine went away everything for me was like if I ate raw meat for a good while I stuck with basic stuff veggies and things like that u just gotta try and go from there

Same… I crave cereal but use almond milk instead. I can’t drink regular milk while pregnant or I’ll throw up.

Have the dr check ur iron, although when i was pregnant not everything taste like plastic but a lot of food taste weird to me. They ended up giving me iron pills to take along with my prenatal vitamins. Within a week I was back to “normal”

I had the same problem, it went away after the birth.

Are you taking iron pills or vitamins. I think I would tell my doctor.

Did you previously have covid! My daughter had covid and now her food taste like dirt and many other not normal tastes.

Lemon candy, especially hard candy you can suck on. A few years ago I had a serious infection in my stomach and colon, the doctor prescribed pills that made everything taste bad.
I couldnt eat or drink anything because of the awful taste it would all leave and he suggested lemon candies, it definitely did help.
I know it’s a different situation but it cant hurt to try it.

It’s called Dysgeusia. I had it with my son when I was pregnant in 2018. The only thing that worked was hard candy throughout the day like jolly ranchers or sour patch kids. Immediately after he came out, my taste was back to normal. It was soooo weird

Get tested for Covid. I had this same issue when I was positive in January. Almost anything I ate tasted like chemicals. It’s difficult to explain but was almost like a perfume or nail polish remover taste. So odd.

Others have had it too, Researchers study why some people have a distorted sense of smell and taste after COVID-19

Ugh I have had this my entire pregnancy so far. The only thing that helps sometimes is chewing gum.

Mine is sun block. Everything taste like sun block.

That’s something you should be asking your doctor or your obgyn.

I won’t eat onions or anything that leaves a bad
Taste in my mouth pregnant either I get sick too much I think it’ll go away.

I believe most of these symptoms go away after delivery. I dealt with the constant spitting untill I gave birth.

Try dry mouth spray. I sometimes go through this (7 months pregnant) and drinking more liquids helps.

I’d definitely be calling the dr. just to check in. Sometimes it’s from a lack of vitamins.

Yes it’s a real thing. Most of the time it stops after a certain point but talk 2 ur doctor there maybe something he that can do 2 help.

This may explain your issue.

I had this issue with one prenatal vitamin I tried! Might be worth trying a different kind

I had to chew gum to tolerate this same thing.

I Had That Metallic Taste Went To The Doctor I Had Diabeties

I had this when I tested positive for covid at 8 weeks pregnant. I feel like it never went away. Getting up in the morning and brushing my teeth helps a lot.
