I’m panicking at this point. My son is going to be one on Friday and I cannot get him to drink out of a cup. I never had this problem with my older two. I can’t get him to suck up from the cup. I tried to tip it up like a bottle, so maybe then he will start sucking some of the water out but I can’t get him to do it. I really do not want to have to give him milk in a baby bottle. Is there any kind of cup that has worked? Wonders for somebody who might have had the same problem? Or a cup that you know might help? I’m running out of time.
I took the bottle away from my at 1 year old and she never got it back again I always had 3 sippy cups one in the fridge with milk and the other 2 with water in one half water and juice in the other it took her about 2 hours to drink from the sippy cup
My son loved the 360 cups. Took him a bit longer to use a cup but he was fine with those.
When he is ready he will try. No rushing he is only 1 year old.
Have you tried a cup with a straw? Those worked with my two.
Dip the straw in yogurt, this is how I got my reluctant baby to use a straw. Worked like a charm
My daughter was off of a bottle completely took only a sippy cup by 9 months we used nuk and made sure they had the soft tips. She had no problem transitioning.
Same problem here. However, feeding therapists does not want me to force him. He is 2 and still drinking from his sippy cup. He will drink from straws, and try to drink from cups when he wants to but not very often.
They will do it on their own time. Just continue to offer it to him but have his back up ready.
Give him a water bottle, it has a smaller opening.
I had the same exact issue we use the tommee tippie sportee, only cups that he drinks more than an ounce or two from and that he doesn’t spill out of his mouth. It’s also COMPLETELY leak proof. I’ve never ever found a cup that doesn’t splatter when dropped or thrown but this does. Can’t recommend it enough.
Try different cups mine likes the ones with the straw the most
This might sound weird but take him to the store and give him some options so he can pick one? Then maybe he’ll use it?
Kid sports cups!! He will love it!!
We used a shot glass we started around 8 months.
Idk if this would help but I was worried about our oldest not drinking a lot in the summer so we tried drinking like different animals
We struggled with our son. Finding a cup that has a soft top like a bottle helped. We just tried daily and tried many different cups
I always just used milk or formula in bottles. I put watered down juice in a sippy. It encouraged them to try the cup cause there was something different in it. Eventually I threw all the bottles away and strictly sippy. My kids loved the nuk cups
I started out with a straw in my water and put the finger at the top then let the baby sip on the straw. I think this helped my little one adjust to a cup.
There is no timeline for this. Every child is different. So relax.
I first used a rubber top sippy for all my kids it worked, as they got used to it I changed it to the hard top sippy cups.
Use a tumbler is what we ended up doing for Mt toddler
The only cup my youngest would take was a 360. My grandson started with a straw cup
Try a sippy with a straw. He’s still young yet. He has time. Our kids all develop at their own pace. No worries mama
Same boat. Mine is now 16 months and still wont. Didnt have this problem with my first. I just keep trying hoping one day it clicks
My son is 2 and will not drink out of anything but his bottle… I have tried every cup I can think of and he refuses to use them
I’m following this. I’m having the same problem he will take one sip from it but not drink from a sippy cup just plays with it. He will be one next month. My girls had no issue at all
We had to use nuk trainer cups to make the jump form bottle to sippy. They are soft like a bottle but shaped more like a sippy spout. A few weeks of that when we were able to go to regular sippy cup and practice and open cup with tiny amounts of water.
They sell cups that use a nipple style tip to they can learn to transfer
I don’t know why you’re rushing it?
Oh my Lord . You are panicking? Really?
I was so worried when I started reading and then I said Ohhhh okay.
Don’t worry too much.
Everything will be alright.
We used these starting at 11ish months old and then when she started biting through those we switched to the Tommee Tippee Sippee. Also, as for drinking out of a regular cup, we just use any cup and buy the disposable straws. She won’t drink from any of the sippy cups that have straw like things attached.
He is still a baby stop pushing!
It’s not that serious. Just let him use a bottle a while longer
Don’t sweat it, he won’t be an adult who can’t drink out of a cup.
Running out of time? What? Don’t panic. Try different sippy cups. I think I used Nuk brand. He will get it! No rush.
My dude … when he’s ready
Not when you want him to
Is there a race ? Kids do things in there own time please don’t stress there’s no rush .
There’s no running out of time, every kido is different and does things at different times
Don’t be so hard on yourself or your kido
Could try a straw cup? Or instead of milk try water in a bottle. My 1 year old started with a cup I the bath, playing with it scooping up water , tipping it out, then tried to drink from it
My 3 yr old still has a bottle in the morning and bed time, he doesn’t always drink it more just holds/cuddles it, it’s like a comfort thing. My mhn wasn’t a fan but it’s my kid no one else’s and I don’t see an issue… he’s happy and healthy
Us mums get so much pressure to do this do that and by this time. No.
We started with sippy cups, then transitioned to these cups (pictured) to act like a regular cup without the mess then eventually a cup… be patient it’ll happen…
Are you using an open cup or some sort of sippy cup with a spout that goes into their mouth similar to the way the bottle top goes in the mouth? Sippy cups can be quite hard to drink from compared to the bottle so if you try with just a standard open cup with a very small amount of liquid in the bottom and tip it to your baby’s lips to just pour it into the mouth chances are it’ll come pretty quickly how to drink from a regular cup. You don’t actually have to go from a bottle to a sippy cup you can skip the sippy cup altogether and go straight to a regular drinking cup. We went with a regular open cup with my youngest because sippy cups were too hard to figure out.
Your not running out of time mama you can not rush a child who is not ready. Each child grows and learns at their own pace you are doing awesome just be patient your little one will get the hang of this new journey soon.
try to find a cup that has a spout that resembles a bottle nipple if you can.
I found the munchkin gentle transition bottle to be super helpful for starting cup journey then we moved up to the 360 cup.
I also found not having any bottles in sight also helped it was a struggle for sure but I just kept offering the cup I’d sit and drink out of it to show him and we would make little fun games out of taking a sip.
Maybe try to go down the cup isle and find a few that are age appropriate and put them in front of your child and let them explore the cups and choose one they may find an interest in?
I attached a picture of the cup I had used to transition from bottle to cup as it resembles a bottle and has a soft spout but has the spout shape of a sippy cup.
Both my kids had their bottles past age one, my son is typical, my daughter has Down Syndrome. Eventually we just used straw cups. The straws are washable. Who cares if your kid is past age one, it’s not something to even remotely stress about, no need for any special goodbye bottle day, it organically happens.Oh and also I was a nanny for 15 years prior not one of those kiddos stopped their bottle by age one, they all went to college and they all are successful and none of them still use their bottles😂
We use baby bottles until 2 1/2 and it’s been fine
Panicking? He’s 1 and it’s not the end of the world. It’s all trial and error before you find a cup he likes.
Munchkin® Miracle® 360 Toddler Sippy Cup, Green/Blue, 10 Oz, 2 Count https://a.co/d/h4zu00g
My son started with these cups
A regular cup at 1yr? I just removed the bottle and gave them a sippy/straw cup. Around 2-2.5, I started introducing cups at the table with meals. Then I got rid of sippy cups all together once they learned to drink from the cup.
You can buy sippy cups
Anywhere
I had them with my kids
And my kids had them with their kids
If the baby is not off the bottle at exactly a year , it’s not a big deal. , Maybe babies not ready to transition yet
my boys the same except his 18 months old
Don’t panic, it’s really no biggie.
The ones with the rubber spouts that are like the same material as a bottle nipple have always worked for me!
Stop setting time limits on children. They all develop at different paces.
Why are you running out of time? This is an arbitrary deadline that you have created for your comfort, not his. He’s not your other children, and his timeline and milestones are his own. He’s not ready.
He’s one he can still use a bottle? That would be the least of my worries. They have sippy cups that look like bottles with nipple type tops.
Your not running out of time
Kids are all different
It’s gonna be ok
Wait you’re panicking at this at only one? Lol
For anyone saying not so soon, daycares can require more money for kids on bottles, or charge more for kids in the “baby” room who still take bottles. This may be about daycare, not her timeline. For a suggestion, my kid had some sippy cups from walmart that had a soft top and look and felt like a bottle, but still are considered a sippy. Try there.
Why are you panicking? He will eventually. He is still a baby, after all. Running out of time for what?
You’re not, “running out of time”. Every child develops milestones at different ages. So don’t panick.
I didn’t get anything fancy I just bought a pack of regular sippy cups that would not spill, I had my daughter help me to gather all the bottles in the house into a bag ( Way beforehand I secretly hid one just in case it didn’t work and there was no way to get her to drink after awhile of trying)we said a few words kind of like a little good bye ceremony. Had her put the bag in the garbage. I then had her help me open the packages of the Sippy cups explained them to her and how now that she was a big girl she wasn’t allowed to use bottles anymore and she never touched a bottle after that moment. I also told her that next time we went to the store she would be able to pick out a couple herself. She had been on bottles from birth I was not able to breastfeed unfortunately because of medical issues she had at birth. I don’t know if I was just lucky or what but she never asked for the bottle again and we never spoke Of them. I strongly believe including her in the whole process was a big part of why it worked.
Or you could chill?? Not all children are the same damn. Like panicking for what!?
its ok to let hom have abottle after 1yr…my youngest had a bottle till 15months and my oldest had one till almost 2 but for only milk. water or juice went in a sippy cup.
Should have been trying before now. But try a cup with a built in straw. Sometimes they prefer that. And give juice or milk. Or flavored water.
Use an open cup with just a little at a time.
If this is all you have to stress on you are one bless mama.
Literally no need to panic at all. He will do it when he’s ready.
Nuby sift tip sipy cup. And i had to go cold turkey with the bottle for my youngest bc he refused all sippy cups. After about 4 hours of screaming, he gave in and drank from the nuby cup, and we never went back to a bottle
the 360 cups are the best! and start trying to teach him how to use a straw, my kids ped explained its almost like a trigger to begin the cup bc it shows them to use the same muscles in there mouth as they would taking a regular drink.
I used Nuk trainer cups for my kids. They had the soft spout like bottle but shaped like a sippy. They were the best. I tried several brands.
He’ll do it when he’s ready.
All 4 of my kids had different timeliness for their development…don’t push
I’m confused about why you would panic? He’s not even one. He will eventually learn Every kid is different so you can’t expect him to do things exactly like the first 2.
Running out of time for what? Just because the other two learned quick,? He’s not them, maybe he’s not ready,is it such a crime to stay on the bottle a little longer? Patience mommy,it’ll happen
Try transition cups we found one looks like a bottle but has cup top but so much easier for them to learn with
Don’t pannick he’s still small get a sippy cup
You are not running out of time. There isn’t really a time limit unless you make one. There is no shame in your child having a bottle at the age of 1 or even a bit after. There will be a time when they are ready. Just keep introducing the cup you would like them to use and if it doesn’t happen when you offer it tomorrow is another day. I didn’t push with any of my kids and I have 4. Their bottle could be considered a comfort to them. Take time enjoy the little things and don’t panic. Every child has their own time line. Best of luck
Wouldn’t panic the my little girls 3 in November she only started drinking out of a cup 6 month ago and she only does it at nursery not at-home x
Someone on a Baby led weaning group said they dipped the straw in yogurt and their baby learned the drink from the straw cup that day.
I thought no way could this work with my son but I tried it anyways and it totally did!!!
We largely skipped sippy cups all together, she wasn’t interested, i didnt see thd point in pushing the fact and went to a normal cup with a silicon straw in the top. She decided she wanted one when it got to winter and we all swapped to only having our coffees in travel mugs.
Try the munchkin no spill cups
Why are you panicking? What happens when time is up? And this is your 3rd child? Chill Mamma. It’s not a serious problem.
Stop panicking. For goodness sake, he’s only one. What worked for your other two may not work for him. Their is no timeline when they should be drinking from cups. Give him time.
Or put ur fountain soda in front of him let him get straw to suck …mine all sucked out a straw by 6/7 months
Why exactly are u running out of time? He will eventually get it. Think about it this way? How many adults do u see who don’t know how to drink from a cup? Everyone learns it. Some kids pick up it suuuuper easy, some take a lil longer. With my youngest, getting him off the bottle was such a long process. I had to take baby steps. First i found a sippy cup that let him suck , kinda like a bottle, just so he realized he didn’t need his bottle any more, than after a while i got him a sippy cup that u couldn’t continue to suck from. But i made sure it was spill proof so he could still have it next to him in bed. He had that for a while. Than he went to a regular cup. My oldest was much easier to ween. She didn’t seem to need a bottle or binky nearly as long as my boys. But each kid is different and each kid needs a different process that works for them for stuff like this. Ull find it. I know it’s frustrating but trust me, ur baby will get there
