I found out I have PCOS and my husbands sperm count is low: Advice?

Hello! So I found out yesterday after my husband’s semen analysis that his sperm count and motility are both low. I also was recently (within the last 6 months) diagnosed with PCOS. I do have an appointment with the fertility clinic to help as my OB/GYN said he cannot help us further at this point. Does anyone have any experience with a successful pregnancy with both of these conditions? How long did it take you to get pregnant? How much did you spend on fertility treatments? Is there really no hope as to getting pregnant naturally? Thank you!

Im pregnant with my third and i have pcos. both my boys were surprises and my girl was planned.
She took 3 months to fall pregnant with

Keep trying, have fun, and give yourself time xx

Yes! I got pregnant naturally after 6 months. I was told at 18 it was very unlikely because of the PCOS. Husband has had some issues that cause low sperm count (won’t go into the gory details). Im now 23. A month before I got pregnant, I went to my OB to try and get help with losing weight because no matter what I did I couldn’t stop gaining weight. Wasn’t really pushing the issue of getting pregnant because we weren’t married yet and not really trying, just not preventing. I lost 15 pounds in like a month-ish on adipex and conceived! I think the rapid weight loss sparked ovulation. I’m now 26 weeks. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have PCOS and have been pregnant at least 10 times, I have 2 living children thus far so PCOS doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Issues with sperm on the other hand I have no experience or advice but as for your PCOS don’t lose hope there. It can happen. Took 14 years to get my miracles but it happened and it was worth it. I wish you the best.

I was diagnosed with pcos about 15 years ago, I have a 13 year old and a 6 month old, and have lost 2 pregnancies. I personally am only able to conceive after weight loss, but it’s different for everyone.

My husband and I have this exact issue. We tried for 2 years naturally then went to a fertility clinic. Took another year on fertility meds and got pregnant using IUI. Knowing what I know now I would jump straight to IUI if we decided to have another baby. Clomid didn’t work for us. Femara and IUI were successful on the 1st attempt. We paid 400 for an IUI and about 1,000 for meds, bloodwork, ultrasounds etc. that also depends on states and insurance too tho.

I have PCOS and I’m on my fourth pregnancy. Try drinking soy milk to increase estrogen and there’s always clomid and or metformin if you want to go that route. His sperm count I’m not sure what to do about without doing some research. Good luck.

I have pcos our daughter is an iui baby and our second on the way is an ivf baby. We spent two years with infertility with our daughter and over two years with infertility with our second. Clomid and metformin never worked for me. I did shots and then iuis.

Been there! Still there. Have a little girl. Don’t give up. Watch diets. Both take vitamins. Obgyn needs to be dumped then. They should of been able to help unless there’s more to it. We took clomid and a trigger shot. Lost 91 pounds too before starting.

I have PCOS and endometriosis. Tried for 5 years before going to a fertility Dr. Did 5 rounds of pills and hormone shots plus metformin before finally getting pregnant with my son. Total cost was probably about $1600 total after insurance. Clomid/clomiphene never worked for me but it is an option and it’s cheaper than other medications. I also lost some weight and ate healthy, lots of leafy greens and took prenatals beforehand. Idk about the low sperm tho. Though I did have husband wear different underwear and quit drinking energy drinks and mountain dew while we were trying. Not sure if it helped.

I would recommend doing treatment for sure. Femara or clomid with a trigger shot and iui is your best bet with these two conditions. No reason why you can’t get pregnant just going to take some work and some medical helpn

I discovered giving up almost all white foods , potatoes , breads , pastas , dairy , refined sugars etc changed my health so much I had my first period in years that wasn’t caused by birth control and after a year of being off birth control all together I was pregnant. Look into what type of pcos you have and what lifestyle changes are most helpful based on that . also if you plan on breast feeding and find weight gain instead of weight loss … Pcos can cause that and cutting carbs and sugars drastically may be necessary. It’s frustrating bc each of our bodies responds differently to different health plans. I walk and eat lots of veggies, meat and fats … Never felt better … Miss my comfort food but oh well

Also … Water , so much water to flush the junk !

I went through same but I have three kids so don’t lose hope get the right medication and u will be sorted

I have PCOS, and it took 7 years for me to get pregnant.

Something a LOT of people do not know about PCOS is that you really should try to stick to a gluten and dairy free diet. Lots of raw nuts, vegetables, some fruit (not bananas), and lean meats are the best. Gluten and dairy cause inflammation, and for us, it makes everything a thousand times worse. We already do not process insulin well.
Women with PCOS really need to see a nutritionist.
Also, regular exercise helps tremendously.
Google PCOS and diet.
Most doctors do not tell you this, especially fertility ones. I spent a fortune and it did not work. I changed my diet and within a year, I was pregnant naturally.
Also, pomegranate is good for low spent count.

Look up keto and fertility its helped alot of women with pcos.

Once I lost over half my body weight and got off bc, I got pregnant immediately. Within a couple weeks.

Gonna sound stupid but try a ketogenic diet it naturally boosts fertility worked for me and so many people on the fb pages

I didn’t get diagnosed with pcos but had trouble getting pregnant but back in 2007 when I lost 20 pounds I got pregnant right after

You both do acupuncture. Will change your world!!

There’s a supplement called Balance by Alani Nu and it has really good reviews. Supposed to help with PCOS. I don’t have it but I’ve seen the reviews from people who do and many people who have been able to become pregnant from it

7 years…thousands…and yes you can…depending on what actual issies you have going on. There are a lot of variables with pcos so its important to know what all you have going on so it can be treated/controlled.

I have PCOS …tried clomid for 6 months then decided to stop treatment as it was expensive meds and not covered by insurance…tried for 2 years…finally got pregnant May 2018 have a handsome lil man who was born in January 2019  good luck dont give up theres always hope

As for your hubby we were told cooler showers and boxers vs briefs would help increase stronger swimmers. Idk if that’s true but it’s what my ob suggested. Good luck.

I have PCOS, tilted uterus and hypothyrodism. As for my partner, I’m unsure of his sperm count, but it took us over a year to have ours due in March 2020

Weight loss for pcos is the most effective treatment i found. and only have sex on most fertile days increases sperm strength, get some vitamins for him. That’s your best chance I think.

I did not have a spouse with low sperm count but I do have severe PCOS and was told I would not have children without fertility treatment. I did intermittent fasting three weeks before I got pregnant with my daughter. I had my son at 19. I didn’t have PCOS with him. I only was diagnosed with PCOS after being on the depo shot. I am now 31 and 24 weeks pregnant. The high risk Dr says he sees it a lot where overweight women start losing weight with PCOS and then ovulate and become pregnant. Not saying you are necessarily overweight because not everyone who has PCOS are. But it is more common in overweight women. I had finally become content with having one child and then landed pregnant unexpectedly. My spouse also was told a medication he was taking almost 10 years ago could make him have low sperm count or be sterile. He even had to sign paperwork before taking it. Complete surprise that we are pregnant. I wish you the best!!

Get him a fertility supplement for men. I don’t have PCOS so i am not much help there but some of these other ladies seem to have great suggestions

I have a cousin that was in that boat & she finally got pregnant in her late forties. She thought her time would never come & it did! I also have PCOS & have a four year old but my daughter’s father didn’t have a low sperm count at that time. I also have a friend that was in the same boat & didn’t get pregnant until 7 years later (after she first started trying) she was just on Metformin to help regulate her periods. I have a brother who has been married for five years, he has a low sperm count & his wife has a severe case of PCOS. They’ve tried everything & have yet to be successful. I’d say, do what you can to get your periods to regulate. They have Metformin (by prescription), exercise daily, take your vitamins, (including prenatal, even if you’re not pregnant yet, just trying) & maybe try the Keto! As for the low sperm count, I don’t know much about it. Good luck! :pregnant_woman:If years go by & nothing is working-- there’s always adoption.

I onlt get oregnant when i have a great diet. Or im a little heavier than my natural weight at 125. Maybe try a new diet.

We were the same - I cut out sugar lost about 40lbs which put me as pretty thin but healthy and we got pregnant by surprise - they say it happens when you relax. I guess I’d agree with that - we had just met w adoption counselors within the previous month  Hugs - it’s so hard I know.

Took me 8 years. The best combo we found was sex every 3-4 days to allow his semen to mature and I started metformin. The metformin did wonders for me and my pcos as well as eating as little sugar as possible which ment cutting out a lot of premade foods. I couldn’t afford fertility Drs.

I have pcos and it took me at least seven years and then i got pregnant this year. Necer did the fertility stuff just tried the tisane du durbon , moringa, tumeric tea and more natural remedies. And when i lt felt like i was ovulating we had extra sex. This yr my 17 yr old brother died and i went into depression started bleeding everyday for almost two months and then i took provera 10mg for four days (one 10mg perday) and then started feeling pregnant which i ignored because pcos symptoms mimicks pregnancy symptoms sometimes and then fell ill went to the hospital where they tolf me i was pregnant and did ultrasound and baby was there. I’m now 27 weeks and going strong so dont give up. It will happen for u when u least expect it to.

My daughter went theu the same thing she used ovulation test kit
and made the most out of her fertile days it took her almost 3 yrs but we now have this little peanut!!!

Clomid could help the sperm count and mobility for your husband. I’ve seen a lot of women with PCOS successfully conceive after a bit on keto.

I used the female version in my last 2 pregnancies. Got pregnant in the first 30 days. Give this a try. It’s much less than going through treatments. You can look up on Fairhaven Health. It’s their product.

Good luck momma. Anything is possible

Please consider adoption as there are so many children in foster care in need of a forever home.

I had amenorrhea from my PCOS, so I had to have an IUI. Walnuts helped my husband’s count, plus a device called the snoballs underwear. We got pregnant on the first IUI and his count was 0.3M.

Definitely do keto and use fertiliaid for both men and women it worked within 2 months for us

My Thyroid was low so once on meds I got pregnant really fast like three weeks later with my second child

Go to GNC and get a bottle of vitex (chasteberry). I had pcos to the point of huge cysts bursting and putting me on bed rest. I took one entire bottle only, never had another cyst. My periods regulated and a year later I got pregnant. My ex husband had a low sperm count from his alcoholism but we were able to conceive. I promise that the vitex won’t hurt you at all. It’s an herbal supplement but it healed my body amazingly with just one bottle. I know I sound like one of those independent pyramid scheme consultants but I’m not.

I have/ had the same issues. We tried to have a baby for over a decade and had 3 previous miscarriages. We tried every single thing, and it was no use. My specialist flat out told us to find a hobby because we were never having kids. We had given up and decided to be the cool aunt and uncle to our friends kids. We had made our peace with it. Flash to 2017. I think I have the flu, my husband tells me to take a test, and our daughter is now almost 2. Things work out in weird ways.

Ask to try and be on metformin and clomid. I took evening primrose oil, prenatals well before conceiving. If you do conceive stop taking the oil, its said to help the swimmers get up there easier. Dont know if its proven but that’s what I did.

My brother and his wife had this exact situation!!! After 2 years of mucinex (for the sperm) and lots of medical treatments they stopped it all and got pregnant! Then had another 18 months after! Lots of prayers for you struggling :two_hearts:

So I’ve had surgery to remove cysts on my ovaries at 18. I’ve had 6 pregnancies(3 miscarriages, 2 term and currently pregnant) my fiancé and I are 35. He’s never had kids before and the dr told him there’s barely a chance. Low count, low motility. I told him if it happens it happens. We literally did it like 2 a day everyday. Took pre pregnancy vitamins for both of us(don’t know if it helped). But I ended up knocked within a 2 month period. We were a little shocked.

Had the exact same diagnosis in 2009. Once my period regulated I got pregnant in 2010 but miscarried. Adopted my daughter then stayed talking about adoption again a few years later and in 2013 found out I was pregnant and successfully had my son. Maintaining my weight to a healthy level helped for my part. Really pay attention to your body and learn the signs of ovulation. It’s not always 14 days after your period. Every woman can be different along with each cycle. I later had to have a hysterectomy in 2018 because my PCOS along with endometriosis got really bad.

Me and my partner was in the exact same situation. I went for an internal scan, I was due my results on the Tuesday. I found out I was pregnant the Saturday before this! I waited until I got my diagnosis before telling the doctor I was pregnant. Her jaw nearly hit the floor. Keep trying, miracles happen xx

I have pcos didn’t take me long i have 3 now when I was told I wouldn’t have any

I’d just keep trying. Google things that may help. And keep the sperm inside your body as long as you can. I don’t know your pain, and will never be able to as I’ve gotten pregnant 3 times on the damn pill. Try not to disappoint your self and just keep trying, it’s fun to try anyway.

I joined a pcos support group on Facebook that’s been helpful.

First time I got pregnant(end of May) and miscarried(late July) early on in 2012. At the time of miscarriage I was told I had PCOS. I was also told I would never have children and IF I did I would NOT carry to term or have a natural delivery. I was devastated to say the least. Fast forward to early December (two days after my birthday) I got a positive! I not only got pregnant less then 6m after miscarriage and diagnoses, but I also carried 40wks+4days and delivered naturally in August 2013. Then I did it again in Oct 2016 at 40weeks +3days.
Don’t let doctors and medical professionals discourage you.:heartpulse:
Learn you body, listen to your body. Understand your cycle. Every body and every cycle is different.

Healthy weight and diet paired with exercise is what did it for me

I have PCOS and was told I would never have a child… a year-and-a-half later…this very instant… I’m sitting with her as she is eating her waffles off of her high chair tray. I didn’t do absolutely anything special and was caught completely completely off-guard when we found out that I was pregnant.

Honestly i used TruV talk to Christina Christena Ellen Doan

Anticandida diet. It really gets those sperm moving!
