I have to vent because I was just told by my job that I will have to go in some kind of leave if I keep missing work due to my pregnancy, CRAZY how men don’t have to make the sacrifices but us women do, they don’t have to worry about the kids, doctors appts etc. I’m over it all.
Sadly most of time women have to sacrifice when they have family’s if a man had something that prevented him from working his job he’d be asked to go on leave or fired also . It’s not an employers job to keep people on whom can’t do the job hired for Sadly prayers it gets better
Define missibg work? Constantly calling out sick wtc or do you mean for necessary prenatal appointments …
A normal pregnancy without any complications or issues like HG for example is not and should not be debilitating, its not a disabilty and unless youre in a physically demanding or heavy lifting type role there are millions of women who manage to maintain their employment while carrying…
Well duh… What else are they supposed to do if you keep missing work?
Yah you won’t have a job if you always leave. If not dependable they will meed to find someone that is. Your reason doesn’t matter, they got a business to run.
I’m not sure they can do that. Depends on the circumstances.
My husband takes our daughter to her doctor’s appt. as well. While yes it sucks that you keep missing work due to your pregnancy. I think anyone who would be missing work due to health etc would have to have sick time etc. I had to take short term disabilty when I was first diagnoised with my kidney disease in 2021. I feel we need to know more here? I would hope they would work with you. Eitherway it is no fun for sure.
Utilize your pto and see if you have short term disability through your employer. All you need is a not from your physician stating you can no longer work - why are you missing work? Appointments can be scheduled on days off , weekends, or after work. Myself, I was taken off duty by my physician and had short term disability once pto was exhausted.
This sounds too much like your just playing victim . Why are you missing so much work?
Man or woman. If you keep missing work they are gonna wanna get rid of you. Pregnancy is not an excuse.
Boys don’t have to worry about kids Dr appt ect men do
Sry, but I agree with the employer…if you constantly miss…you will be let go! Pregnancy is not a reason to miss constantly unless there are complications….then Short term disability may be an option.
Well , they can’t shut down just because you are pregnant, the work have to be done and if you not capable of doing…… yeah , they need to find someone else
If you qualify, you can take intermittent FMLA. Unpaid if you don’t have pto or std but it will protect your job. Unfortunately, whatever time you use it will take away from the time you can take after the baby is born.
My daughter had to take a leave during her pregnancy due to complications but still had her job after the birth of my granddaughter. It’s hard for her to get time off for Dr appointments with her being a single parent due to my granddaughters father being killed due to lack of proper procedures at his work place. I understand the financial difficulties of losing pay but it’s putting coworkers in a bind.
I think your definitely playing the victim and want others to feel sorry for you . A employer won’t keep male or female n if they keep missing work. I know a lady who works at a pharmacy. Keeps taking time off . She’s already had 2 warnings next I think she get the sack which she deserves. She has a a house she is paying off to the bank. I told how will she cope once she’s fired. She plays the victim to much . That don’t wash with. Me .
Can you plan with your medical team and forecast the expected appointment schedule for them so they know what to expect? And if there’s a variation due to complications then you can discuss leave options
I mean, is it a Dr appointment or is it because you don’t feel well? There is a difference
Most places, key word most, have it where you can file for an intermittent leave which covers the days needed for appts. I tried and was denied because they thought it wasn’t necessary. I went on leave due to early labor from complications and still had my job but not the exact same position.
I agree with the employer. Most companies would terminate for missing work. Doesn’t matter the reason or male or female.
First: Take short term disability if possible & Second: find a man that shares that responsibility with you, don’t keep procreating with him if you’re doing it all on your own.
This is really an American issue. We are one of 8 that does not provide mandatory maternity leave, making the burden of childcare and welfare fall mostly on the mom. We just had our 4th and my husband finally got to have paternity leave for once. It’s extremely hard to progress (career wise comparable) to a male who can have children and not have to take more than a weekend off. It’s also why alot of women are refusing to try and climb a corporate ladder, returning to traditional values and roles… because that job will have you replaced by Monday but who you raise could change the world💕
Our company allows the dad 1 week.paternity leave
Yeah they can’t do that. I would talk to hr about that.
FMLA leave … get it signed by your dr
Need more details. Why are you missing work due to your pregnancy? If it’s for appointments you need a doctor’s note to show proof you have an appointment. If you’re in the first trimester and you’re nauseous and throwing up all the time you need to talk to your doctor about nausea medicine. If you do heavy lifting and all and it causes you pain or Braxton hicks or complications then you need to find a more laid back job. If you’re tired all the time then you need to either talk to them about getting less hours or get a job that’ll give you less hours or just simply stay home so you can sleep. If your not in the first trimester and you’re throwing up and nauseous all the time then your doctor should’ve diagnosed you with HG so you can give your boss the paperwork showing you have it and that you need a leave of absence until you can get it under control.
If you have to do a leave of absence there’s WIC, there’s Food stamps and if your state has free health care for pregnant women then apply for it. I had to apply for those things because I lost my job before I found out I was pregnant. My job let me go due to not being able to work because I was constantly throwing up due to the smell of the food, 2 weeks later I found out I was pregnant. I do wish we had programs for the women that had jobs and end up being fired or had to leave due to complications that we could still get a paycheck. Single mothers can’t keep up with bills if they can’t work.
If you are part of a team that needs your input to complete their tasks it’s totally understandable. If you’re not there then no-one can work. It’s called reliability
What’s your company’s policy regarding pregnancy? One of my previous employers had a 12 months of employment before qualifying for maternity leave and held your job for 2 years
It’s not your coworkers fault you got pregnant. When you’re not there someone else has to pick up the slack…
Not trying to be mean, but, that’s kinda what happens when you decide to have children. The jobs didn’t force you to get pregnant or have kids. It goes for any type of job too that if you keep missing work then of course they need to find a more reliable employee. And if you’re in an at-will state they can legally fire you with no reason at all. You’re trying to play the victim and not taking accountability on why they told you this.
Thats life baby. File for fmla. Or reduce your hours.
Put in for FMLA, your job is protected. Just do intermittent, this way is will cover your appointments.
The OB Drs that I worked with would not put a woman on leave unless it was 100% medically necessary!! They would flat tell the women that pregnancy is not an illness!! Suck it up!! Unfortunately too many women think that pregnancy gives them the right to abuse the attendance policy… abuse FMLA… when it is unnecessary! Due to this abuse… employers don’t put up with it!
If I wanted to keep my job… I would probably figure out what I needed to in order to get myself to work everyday.
Try to schedule your appointments when you aren’t working, or see if you can negotiate leaving early or coming in later in the day for an appointment so that you aren’t missing the day.
I get you’re frustrated but what does being a male have anything to do with it? Like I’m confused.
Report them to the EEOC and look into the PWFA. There are new laws this year.
FMLA (Intermittent leave)
Can’t believe the responses on WOMEN in here!!
Shameful!
What they are doing is illegal!
I’m sorry…at least you got a warning though…I got ket go this morning with no warning no reason and I was with my job for a year and a haf
