Is anyone forced to quit their job due to covid?

Yeah I applied for pua 15 weeks ago an still haven’t got approved yet…

Nope. I’m forced to work from home and overnights…

You cannot get unemployment if you quit your job. You can if the company lays you off, or if they shut down business because of covid.

Well under the old rules you couldn’t collect unemployment if you quit so… Not sure what changed in the last 5 years.

Depends on state…the PUA ended in July, so you would get only your state benefits at max.

Taking care of your family isn’t considered essential??? Ridiculous

I started right back to work once dismissed from knee surgery. Covin-19 time off was for 2 weeks with additional 2 weeks if wanted.

I quit partially due to covid and found a PT fully remote job.

Also under FMLA you don’t get paid but your job is secure

They have to lay you off or cut your hours for you to get unemployment you can’t quit

You can’t quit your job.
You can give notice to you job that due to Covid you can’t work for the time being because your children won’t be in school.

But do not quit your job. With UI you need a job to go back too.
I know someone else who did this and she didn’t get her UI.

Know lots approved but that ended July 31

What have you been doing since the schools closed down ?

I did because of daycares closing down but the pandemic unemployment has ended by now

Don’t! I had the same situation and they denied me pandemic UA and gave me regular. This was over 4 months ago and I’ve yet to see a penny of that. They won’t answer phone calls, chat rooms or e- mail and have given zero explanation as to why i was denied PUA

Applied 9 weeks ago still pending here.

DO NOT QUIT! You need to file FMLA for personal reason. Than you can file with unemployment. Not sure if the new orders will cover FMLA unemployment like before. I know people who had there hours cutby Covis Could file for the difference in pay before July31st though again not sure if there is a change.

The president signed an executive order to restart a new PUA but for $400

No. You cannot qualify. You have to be laid off because of Covid, you cannot quit.

Technically you not able and available to work. So no.

Some families in my are are swapping daily care. Each parent takes one day off and has all the children at that house. Then the next day, another parent is off. You would have to change your hours at work, but maybe it is an option.

What is PUA? I might have to leave my day shift…

Did you get papers from a doctor?

Luckily I have been able to attend my job as usual.

Don’t quit, apply for FMLA. They have a special COVID program.

Yes I had to stop working due to my kids being out od school and because my son has intractable epilepsy and is high risk for Covid. I’m still out of work due to my son’s doctors not wanting me to go back yet because of the risk to my son. His doctors dont even want my 2 daughters or my son going back to school because of the risk to my son so they will be doing remote learning only! And I am a working mom, not a home school mom! I struggled with the remote learning this past school year with 3 kids so this coming school year should be a blast! I was approved for unemployment within a couple days of initially applying. I applied on a Wednesday, was approved 2 days later and was able to make my first weekly claim that Sunday. The extra $600 was so helpful because my state doesn’t pay much and with the xtra I was actually getting what I make at work, after taxes of course. Now that the xtra has stopped Im making less than 40% of what I would bring home a week at work. Idk what I’m gonna do! I really don’t want to apply for welfare and food stamps but if things don’t change with unemployment I will have no choice but to swallow my pride and apply! Our country is just a big mess these days and I’m scared of what the impact of, not just this virus, but the political and racial divide as well as the prices of goods and servives increasing! Soon the lower middle and middle class families of our country won’t be able to afford to support themselves! It’s sad and honestly frightening!

I’m fighting this now. Literally just talked with unemployment

Just call your unemployment office and talk with them about your situation.

If you refuse work due to a COVID related reason, you will not be eligible for unemployment

Yes. File. Theres a whole section on having to be home with kids.

Yes in ny I’m on it for that reason

Yes, in May I had to resign. It was approved.

Wow alot of difference.I can see why stressed!!

You can’t quit a job and get unemployment

Don’t quit. You can’t get unemployment if you quit.

This depends on the state.

I was laid off then fired by email:person_facepalming::person_shrugging: because the company can’t do buffet.

Following because we’re in the same situation

Better yet forget the fone call…go in person!

my neighbor got it, she was self employed

I was able to stop working bc my son was put out of school

I’ve been on efmla and have 12 weeks to decide

Meeee!!! Have to homeschool my daughter and had to make the choice

Yes yes yes. I quit my job because I have three kids in elementary school and nobody else to care for them. I got accepted for Pandemic unemployment for this reason.

I lost my job back in March due to corona, I worked for Marriott as a recruiter and they lost 95% of their business in 10 days. I was among thousands of people laid off from Marriott. I did file for unemployment back then and I have been applying for at least 20 jobs a week and have yet to find employment. It’s a very scary time to be a single mom, not like it wasn’t scary enough before the pandemic when I had a job.

Unfortunately the pandemic part stopped July 25th
But you can get regular.

Good luck I know you won’t qualify for regular because it’s based on losing your job not quitting, also as others said think the pandemic aide has stopped. FMLA is your better option partially because even if you can get unemployment you have to actively seek work while on it.

Ok so this happened to me back in May…my job furloughed is in March…fast forward to May and they recalled us and I told them I couldn’t return until mid June due to the kids in school…they terminated me…no questions asked just BOOM! They also told me I wouldn’t be able to collect unemployment and I filed with department of labor spent hours on the phone and it was approved…if that helps out any…also can’t find a job that is willing to work with my kids school hours so that sucks but I’m just taking it day by day

Is there a daycare he could go to, and you could help him with his schoolwork in the evening?

Calling the unemployment office right now and actually speaking to someone is like winning the lottery that being said yes, the Cares Act did allow an exemption for primary caregivers whose young children’s school was closed as a result of COVID-19 not sure if the new executive order does or not. The best thing to do is apply and see what they say. Problem with that is it takes anywhere from two weeks to longer to hear back and with all the changes going on right now it is probably gonna be longer than sooner :disappointed_relieved:

Hope this helps some of you out. This is for California. A better way to help you get connected with edd. It helped me.

I was unable to collect from my state because my day job was deemed “essential” although my second job, a bar was closed (and still is). I also couldn’t work because I have to be home for my kids. I dont make enough to even pay for daycare. Some of us are just in really crappy situations.

i was temporarily laid off for about 6 weeks and happily did homeschooling. i did file for unemployment and received it but i think that if your job is offered to you and you aren’t able to go in, then they can deny your benefits? im not happy about my one daughter going back to school but i can’t afford to not work.

Also i was wondering who knows if essential workers should get some kind of compensation for working during covid? As far as i know my employer has not compensated any employees.

I was forced to quit because my employer didn’t think it was necessary to send two sick employees home and i have a special needs medically fragile child at home!

I had to quit because the schools closed and I had no one to watch my 8 year old plus do the distance learning thing. I applied for my states PUA but was told to apply for unemployment. I have been pending on that for over 10 weeks due to job separation. If it wasn’t for COVID-19 I’d still be working. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!! I live in Hawaii and it is so expensive here. Luckily my husband is still working or else I don’t know what we’d do.

I’m in California I was working at a fine dining resort making really good income I was laid off for 3 months the week I was supposed to go back to work I was permanently laid off. It’s been 5 months being home. I was venting on a moms group and found an opportunity to work from home and so far it’s going great. And I’m still receiving unemployment as well. I missed so much time with my 3 year old glad I get to spend more time with her. Dm me if you would like Info on an opportunity to work from home. Can’t wait for all this to be over so my daughter can go to preschool and learn to interact with other children her age. :yellow_heart:

Unfortunately if you quit your job you are penalized if not rejected for unemployment. Can’t get pandemic unless you are rejected for unemployment :flushed:. So wait if you quit you will have 6-8 sometimes more penalty to even qualify for the rejection of unemployment just to get rejected after applying which is another 21 days or longer then you can apply for pandemic and that takes 21 days or longer to get approved

You would qualify for pandemic unemployment. You first have to file for regular unemployment. Once they deny you, file for pandemic unemployment. Pandemic unemployment has only been extended past July 31st IF your state is willing to pay $100 of the $400 extension

Unfortunately yes I was on maternity leave and it was coming to an end as covid hit so I made a tough choice but my kids were more important tho they asked me to come back I told them idk when then I got an email asking for my voluntary resignation and said what every and quit

PUA ends in December… the only thing that ended already was the extra 600 a week. I get regular unemployment which is approved till next october… If you quit your job you’ll be denied regular unemployment but with PUA you can file because you have no job due to covid

I haven’t quit yet but I am going to have to. My kids are only going in person for two days a week and amthough my 10th grader will do her work without me there my 6th and 7th will not.

Go online and check your home states unemployment and covid-19 Reasons to Quit I live in Texas my wife quit her job because she did not want to take a chance on bringing covid-19 into the house because of my health he’ll look up your state state unemployment and see if they’re special reasons

Good luck,iv bin trying since march

I went on it for a little while due to my son losing his shit when school let out. He’s 12 so daycare wasn’t an option and most those closed too :woman_facepalming:. He doesn’t like change. You can qualify if your hours or pay is reduced or if the facility that cares for your child is closed. Its not always worth it to be on it tho. Being self employed I make around 900/wk before deductions working. PUA set me at 149 a week. They go off taxes AFTER deductions. You also have to apply and be denied regular UI first.
