How common is it to have type 2 diabetes without knowing?

My only symptom for a while was I couldn’t lose weight despite working out 5 times a week and eating my weight in protein. Eventually I started getting shaky if I missed breakfast and that’s what led to my diagnosis.

Pretty common if you haven’t been to the doctor to check?

Have your Dr do a blood test. But diabetes is only diagnosed after several times of your blood sugar being high. Your Dr should do a blood test every the months for about a year or so before diagnosing you.

It’s very common to not know till you get sick or do normal blood tests,I’m prediabetic so high sugar levels not high enough to be type 2 and alot of times I have no symptoms but when you do symptoms can be like comming down with a cold, thyroid problems ect

Yes that’s why they call it the silent killer

Easily. You become so used to it that you don’t realise it’s not normal. Drinking way too much water and soda - you start craving sugar, blurry vision, fatigue, candida, feeling itchy, headaches, needing the toilet far too often etc. I think it’s easy to dismiss symptoms as menopause too. Definitely get it checked out but don’t eat a special diet before hand as it ruins the results. A simple urine test from a nurse should tell you. Or find a willing friend with a glucose monitor.

I was very sick for a long time. My husband had just been killed and doctor just kept saying it was depression. Finally went to a different doctor who didn’t know about my husband and did blood tests.

It’s very common and most ppl actually don’t know until a doctor tests their blood sugar levels.

Very common. But need to get checked asap. Could be dangerous

Found out about mine just a week ago n it sucks

I had it and didn’t know it. Felt like absolute garbage and lost 50 lbs, had a health assessment done that’s when I found out.
