Is it normal for a child to toss and turn all night?

Is it normal for a 8 year old to toss and turn all night in bed? I mean at least 3-4 times an hour? My stepson is constantly moving in his sleep and wakes up at least once a night.

I’m 43 and I still wake up on the bottom of the bed sometimes. My husband isn’t always happy about it, but it’s normal for me.

Possible growing pains, anxiety from switching houses and settling in especially if he’s changing beds a lot it could be a comfort thing. Get him a weighted blanket and see if it helps.

My 8 yr. Old son does the same thing except he also sleep talks and sleep walks so it’s pretty normal for him I guess

Yes both my girls do it and I give them 2 kids melatonian and it helps them sleep. I also have them use the night time bath and night time lotion. They also do ambience and it works. Good luck and I hope I helped out a little bit

3-4 times an hour isn’t excessive. My 10 year old throws a leg over me and whacks me in the face multiple times a night. It looks like she’s swimming sometimes. She talks about stuff and sometimes giggles. She wakes up rested and performs well at school and socially. No switching houses etc. So, I believe it’s not anything to worry about.

I twist and turn more than that!

my 4yo makes circles in his bed, most nights in mine :unamused:

Signs of nervousness and anxiety. Maybe you need to have a Doctor look at him.

Sometimes people roam the bed like a rotisserie chicken. Sure these thoughts aren’t because he’s your step and not your own? Why are you watching him sleep like that? Is he not rested during the day?

I’m not even trying to be funny but what in the world… turn in your sleep 3 times an hr means somethings wrong? Are you supposed to lay in one spot all night. And 3/4 times an hr how do you know do you just sit and watch? I’m just tryina understand

Yes even adults do it cuz I’m one😆

Yes it’s normal, just like with an adult. Some people just do.

He might not be tired enough to fall asleep instantly- so he tosses and turns. Could be that his mind won’t “shut off”. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Ya my 8yr old rotates like a rotisserie chicken and wakes up almost every night.

Do you sit and watch him all night? Shouldn’t an 8yr old be I’m his own room… this is just odd

I thought this was normal human behaviour lol

Wow so many people give their kid’s sleep aids at this young age. It’s disgusting. Ask a pediatrician because so much activity is not normal. All of us toss and turn but what your describing is too much.
