Is my 18-month-old drinking too much at night?

FTM here- my babe is 18 months. He still had one sippy cup of milk to fall asleep then looks for another water sippy cup during the night. Each cup is 10 ounces and he gets it filled to 8. Is this ok? I feel like I should cut this as we will be looking to start potty training soon. Opinions? Thoughts?

Yeah, it’s ok. Each child is different to potty training. My son sorta was to young at 18 months. His sister was 18 months and he was 3 years old both trained at the same time.

If he’s thirsty let him drink. He’s still young

Each child is different and personally I would wean to just one per night instead of 2, this will help with potty training. As for potty training purposes, I would recommend focusing on day time potty vs night potty for the first few weeks, but again each child is different and honestly, in my opinion and from experience as a ftm many yrs ago, you know what’s best for your child and it’s honestly a “guessing game” at times. You’ll most likely go through many options before figuring out what works best.

If he’s going to have them I’d advise doing only water at bed. The sugar in milk is going to stick to his teeth as he sleeps and can cause decay

If you want to do it gently encourage a good meal of protein at dinner and lots of fluid throughout the day and bub may not ask for it as much overnight. I’ve got an 18mo and I notice he asks for more overnight if he hasn’t eaten a solid dinner.
Also, don’t stress about toilet training now that’s something that can wait

Ok, hear me out: my first kid (now 5.5years) was (and still is) fine with a sip of water before bed and then goes the night without a peep. Potty trained fully since 2y7m. My second….half of her water bottle of water before bed, water usually during the night at least once, and drains 10oz of milk when she wakes up. She just turned 3, and is also fully potty trained since 2y5m.

My point is that every body is different and has different requirements. If your kid is thirsty at 18m, they aren’t lying. They are listening to their body. And drinking water at bed time or during the night does not equate issues potty training.

Let him drink if he’s thirsty might be too young to potty train don’t force the issue

Also should be drinking water before bed

I would give a filling snack with first cup of milk

He is thirsty, so allow him to drink. But I would also tell his pediatrician just in case something else is going on. In other words have his BS tested
