Hello mamas. Just looking for some input, and yes, I am also gonna ask a Dr. My daughter was born a month ago and had gained about a pound a week. She was born at 6lbs 6oz and now weighs about 10 pounds… I just heard that she should only gain a pound or two a month, so I was wondering if everyone else has experienced this? I am breastfeeding her. I also heard that they usually lose weight right after birth, and she never did. Just gained super quickly.
That is normal. Its a half a pound to 1 pound a week. It usually slows down eventually and every baby is so different. Your doctor will let you know for sure.
They may drop a very small amount in the first couple of days after birth but not much. At this age you should only be worried if they aren’t putting on weight, if baby is otherwise happy and healthy it shouldn’t be an issue but still check with a dr, remember all babies are different!
My oldest was born 9 lbs even and was 17 lbs by 3 1/2 weeks. My youngest was 7 lbs 11 oz and was 15 lbs at 3 weeks old. Our pediatrician said they were fine and healthy no need to worry. Just some little chubby butts . But all babies are different. I wouldn’t stress to much about it, but definitely voice your questions and concerns with your doctor.
You can’t overfeed a breast fed baby , weight gain is great when they’re newbies , my son gained 2 pounds a week for a while whilst I was breastfeeding him .
No it’s good if she’s gaining!!!
My daughter was born at 6lbs 13oz. By the time she was almost 2 months old, she weighed 10lbs. Now, she’s almost 7months and weighs at least 14 pounds
All kids grow at their own paces some eat more than others normal.
Super normal good job mama an baby
Good job, I think your dr will be pleased
Nothing better then a chunky bubba my son was the same and is still chubby and he’s 1 an in size three already overweight baby’s are better then a under weight baby.
Just for visuals this is my 6yr old daughter (9lb at birth)and my 2 YR OLD SON YES 2YRS OLD…(7lb at birth 3 weeks early)they wear the same size clothing and shoes lol…but medically he is healthy…
I wouldn’t worry about it unless the pediatrician says to. Even then, they lose weight when they start being active. Some babies are 8-10lbs at birth so yeah. Just follow up with pediatrician appointments.
My daughter just turned 3 months old and is maybe 14lbs at least and at her 6 week checkup she was weighing at 12.2. When she was born she weighed 8.5 she also never lost weight after birth and her doctor she’s healthy as can be. So don’t worry mama a healthy baby is a good thing.
My baby is almost 30 lbs at 7 Months.
I doubt it. She probably lost weight b4 leaving hospital. My son was born 10lbs dropped to 9lbs by time left. He has always been 90 percentile for height and weight.
My first born was born at 6lb 13oz and ended up being failure to thrive. Took us months to get him to 10lbs. My second son was born 8lb 10oz and was a tank. Chubby monkey and thriving well. Rolls have reversed now. My oldest is hulk pushing 60lbs at 5 years old and my almost 4 year old is about 35lbs bean pole. As long as kiddo is happy, healthy and thriving it doesn’t matter.
All kids grow differently, I really wish that all the BS about how a child should grow ,learn etc wasn’t put out there the way it is. All kids are different can we treat them that way?.
My son is currently 18 months old, at birth he was 10lbs 13oz he continued to put weight on until he was 1 and hes since stuck at 30lbs just keeps stretching. Dr’s wernt concerned and at every appointment tell me he’s completely healthy. It shouldn’t be an issue but mention it to your Dr
This is my almost 6 month old and he was born at 9 pounds. He is in 12-18 month clothing and weighs 22 pounds and is close to 30 inches. Our pediatrician said he is healthy and proportionate. His two other sisters were so petite compared to him, I just think they all grow and thrive at their own rate. Eventually he won’t gain weight as fast.
Sounds perfectly fine to me. I have a kid who gained a bunch of weight in a as a baby in a few months then when they hit a year old all they did for the next year was grow upwards. Didn’t gain a single pound but she grew 6-8 inches. Sometimes they’re saving it for later use
The doc would have said something at one of the check ups uve been to already …it sounds like ur feed her great shes taking it great …sounds like shes perfect
Your baby is fine as long as baby is content I wouldnt worry xx
As long as they gain they are fine… all of my kids gained like that and had plenty of roles … no worries…
It’s very normal, you have a very healthy baby. You’re doing a great job mama!
My baby is just over a month old. He was 6 lbs 14 oz at birth. He did lose a little bit but is now 8 lbs 9 oz at his month check up. Probably close to 9 lbs. now cause the check up was a few weeks ago. I think the main thing at such a young age is that they grow and gain weight.
It may be affected by feeding formula or breast milk also as far as losing a little weight after birth. This is my second one. My first lost more weight after birth, but I think it took longer for my milk to come in the first time.
My daughter was like that. Shes 8 months now and about 20 lbs. I don’t think theres anything wrong with it plus yours us still so young. If you’re worried about it I would say something about checking her thyroid or something just for peace of mind but don’t stress too much.
All of my babies gained 4 pounds in their first month of life. I breastfed also.
My 1 year old is 30 pounds and 34.5 inches tall right now. While my 3 year old is 39 pounds and 40 inches. And my oldest is 5 and 69 pounds and 53 inches tall. Weight gain is good during their young months, you want that!
She will lose weight when she starts teething and then lose some more when she starts walking.
“You heard…” ignore all that. Because no human is the same. If it was alarming or abnormal your dr will say something. My kid was a PORKER but she’s walking and skinny now. Hasn’t gained weight in over a year because of how chunk she was.
I would take into consideration how tall she is… she weigh a lot but her BMI is probably well within normal. And newborns aren’t active to lose that weight. Once she starts crawling and stuff I think weight becomes less of an issue. There is a wide array of normal for kids.
My son was born at 7lbs 8oz and he’ll be a 2months in a couple weeks and he weighs 12lbs now and dr doesn’t seem concerned since I’m breastfeeding
She is just good and healthy your breast feeding her that makes a difference she will gain faster also my son was 10.3 at birth and he didn’t loose at birth he actually gained before he left hospital he was always off the charts the Drs never said both ng they always said he was good and healthy
My oldest son who is 14 and 6 ft tall now…was 39 lbs by one the rest were only 30lbs…although he’s never been overweight.
My first was a little over 11 pounds at 6 weeks, I think you’re baby is just fine.
If your doctor isn’t concerned I wouldn’t be either.
Breastfeed babies gain quicker in infancy. Only becomes a cause for concern later on if their size inhibits movement, like learning to crawl. A few extra rolls never stopped my littles!
. All three of my kids doubled their birth weight in 2 months, tripled by 6 months! All three of my kids gained fast in the beginning and hit growth spurts way early, but it leveled off eventually. They were always off the percentile chart above 100% for weight and height! But by the time they started school their peers had almost caught up. Only my youngest ended up being the biggest in his class. You can see by my profile picture that kids are far from “fat”, they are just big!
Sounds like a perfectly weighted baby to me; no two are the same, my girl was 7 lbs. at birth and is almost 3 months old and weighs 12 lbs now congrats
It’s a newborn. How that looks is way different than on kids and adults . Babies need those nutrients and you don’t ever restrict food on babies. If you doctor has a recommendation they will let you know and direct you what to do but that won’t be a concern for awhile yet if at all.
She is fine and please cubby babies doesn’t mean a cubby child
My daughter was 5 pounds 10oz and by 8 weeks she’s was 9 pounds.
Now at 3 months she’s around 12pounds.
Every baby is different.
Nope! My first went from 7 lbs to almost 14 in a month. Breastfed babies are chunky lol.
My daughter was 9lbs when she was born and at 1month she was 11½lbs. She never lost any weight after birth either all babies are different and grow at different rates.
Baby gains exactly what they need to.
I breast fed my children. My son was 9.3 when born and weighed 21 lbs at six weeks!!!
She was quite light so I wouldn’t worry. Keep up the fabulous breastfeeding!
My oldest grew fast, 5lb 8oz became 16lbs by 4 months. My other boy grew even faster. He was born 7lbs 3oz, and I am not kidding when I tell you he was 41 lbs by a year. He wore 3T clothes. At 6 months, he was in 9 month clothes, and I feel like I had to buy bigger clothes every paycheck until he was a 3T. I nursed for 10 months with him, but did have to start supplementing with formula at daycare because I wasn’t pumping enough.
She’s fine, my daughter was the same. She was Chunky chunky, I’m talking wrist rolls and all! She slimmed out around 4 when she hit a growth spurt. She is going on 10 this year & has maintained a good weight and an excellent immune system.
It’s good. Don’t worry, breastfed babies don’t get too fat.
My baby lost weight right away but gained it back within a few days. I breast feed as well and she steadily gained weight, and still is! She’s 22 lbs at 8 months old. Sounds like a healthy baby to me
