Is this normal time for preschool?

Are 7:30am-2:30pm normal preschool hours without naptime? My daughter needs a nap or she’ll fall asleep in uncomfortable positions I’m so worried. TIA

I don’t know how a preschool is getting away with legally not giving them a nap. But no, I think that’s insanely early and a long time for a kid to be awake that is that young with that much stimulation. My daughter stopped naps around three but she’s been home with me up until pre-K4 so I can control the stimulation levels and we could have rest time.

They should be offered a 1 hour nap/quiet time.

How old is your child. If still small they need a nap

That’s a long day for pre-school. My kids did 3 hour days.

Ours is going in to 4k at a public school and they still asked us to bring a blanket for them to lay and rest on during a period after lunch time :woman_shrugging:

Just depends my son is in a grant funded program it runs from 830-230pm no nap. My older kids did a similar program they would just take a cat nap on the ride home or a nap at home.

The hours are normal but most preschools have quiet time where they can take a small nap. If you haven’t already, talk to the preschool teacher. FYI, in kindergarten, there’s no quiet time or nap.

Pre-K and kindergarten take 45 minute naps in our district… I’m in North Florida

Preschool is way too old to be napping. This summer should have been spent breaking the nap habit. The teacher will have to endure getting kiddo through that. Expect lots of calls from school because a teacher is actually having to do work and they won’t like that :joy:

My daughter starts preschool in a couple weeks and theirs is 8-2:30. She doesn’t nap currently but I’m sure it’ll be rough getting her to her 6:30 bedtime the first week or two but I imagine she’ll pass out hard right away when she does get to bed. They do have a 30 minute quiet time during their day too.

Pre-school don’t offer naps where I am, it’s 8:30-3:30 here. Nursery offer naps, but not pre-school. My 2nd goes into pre-school this year, there’s little lessons etc and it’s learning them to get ready for school. My kids go bed at 6pm so they don’t really need one.

How old is age ? My daughters did naps in pre-k at 4. But once in kindergarten they stop

I in no way think it’s dangerous but the Academy of pediatrics recommends 10 to 13 hours a day including naps for ages 3 to 5. But no recommendation on breaking it up. They could nap after school and it could count . I thibk it depends on the age once they hit 4 many don’t nap anymore

My son’s preschool is breakfast at 730 start at 8 all day to 330 with an hour or so naptime in the afternoon

My son just left preschool and they always got a nap after coming outside at 12:50

Seven hours is a long time with no nap for a preschooler imo.

Depends on state I think. My daughter did preschool 8-4 and there was a nap/rest time. There were talks of doing a 9-2 during summer so it would not be require nap/rest time. When she went to kindergarten I was surprised they had to bring a blanket for a rest time. By the end of the year it turned into quiet/ reading time. Not many kids were napping.

My grandson always had a nap time when she went when he was 3 and 4

Most preschool have a nap after lunch.

Wait till you see the room… Ours was set up for quiet time, cozy pillows on the floor, and even a tent.

No nap time for pre k( 4 and 5 years old) in our area 9:30am to 3:40pm
