As far as I know, it’s okay to get an x ray while pregnant, it’s very minimal exposure to you / the baby. I would tell whoever is helping you that you are pregnant & see what they would like to do
In my experience, at least in Illinois, you have to go to a primary dr for referral/approval, then find a dentist that will do it… but idk if it matters how far along you are
Good luck… heard putting garlic?(I think) on it, is suppose to help relieve some pain
You’ll be fine, they put a protective vest over you.
I had x-rays on my teeth with my daughter they put a vest on ue stomach
Tbh depending on how bad they may or may not do it I had high risk pregnancy and horrible tooth infection as well as broken front tooth to the gums infection was life or death before dentist or oral surgeon would do it I ended up having emergency in surgery in er after 6 months of on again off again antibiotics and weeks of excruciating pain! On the other hand I have a lot of friends who have had teeth extracted pregnant! Fingers crossed
It should be fine at 6 weeks. It sounds like you may have an exposed nerve. Take care of it before you are two far along
I had to be approve by my doctor first , and she denied me. However, it wasn’t an emergency and it could wait until after baby. I feel like if it’s an emergency, there might be exceptions. But I’m not sure
They put a vest over you!
We thought I was pregnant so they put 2 vests on me
Where I’m from they won’t do x rays while pregnant plus I wouldn’t allow it to myself. But normally you have to get a referral from your family dr.
Tooth X-rays are low radiation and very targeted to your face, they’ll put a lead apron on you and it’ll be fine.
When I cracked a tooth while pregnant they wouldn’t do anything until after I gave birth. A tip, get you some blue Listerine, take a mouthful when it hurts and hold it, the pain will stop. You may have to repeat a couple times a day depending on pain but I relied on it for years as my teeth were worsening and I was terrified to go to the dentist. It also helped with getting rid of infections. Definitely should be a temporary thing until you can get the actual problem solved, but I know how much tooth pain sucks
Office manager at a dental office in Illinois, we require a medical clearance to take an X-ray if you let us know you are pregnant. I would just get a letter from my doctor giving clearance for X-rays and local anesthesia just to be on the safe side
Ask your doctor. I had 3 months of horrible toothaches and I couldn’t take it anymore so I asked and they faxed a clearance letter to have the tooth removed.
I had X-rays while pregnant, they just put some heavy duty anti radiation mat thing over my body
This is literally just youre mouth. Its nowhere near the haby. You will be fine. They dont even ask that at the dentist because there is no risk.
I just went to the dentist for a chipped tooth, and they did one X-ray with a vest on. It is targeted just on the face so I figured the risk is pretty low. I didn’t get the freezing though because I didn’t feel comfortable with that. Ngl that hurt but at least it was a fairly quick appt.
I was 6 months pregnant when I had to have a X-ray and get a wisdom tooth removed.
You should be fine, they will put a protective drape on you.
I just had my son, but when I was newly pregnant I reached up in the middle of the night to turn my fan off and stuck my hand in fan. I ended up breaking my hand and had to have xrays.
They told me it was safe since it wasn’t of my stomach, but still had me sign a waver stating I knew the risks.
It’s fine some people have been diagnosed with oral cancer and received treatment during pregnancy a broken tooth is Minor. They’ll want to know about pregnancy for the sake of safely taking xrays
Talk to your OB. Mine said that it is fine to do dental xrays.
My dentist had told me to wait because there wasn’t sufficient evidence that it wasn’t harmless he said especially in the first trimester. Might not be a bad idea to wait. If it is an emergency I agree they should and will take care of it but there may be a different process
When I was having horrible pain and dental issues while pregnant I had to wait. I had to use home remedies and swish lots or the original listerine to help with some of the pain. They used to tell me to take Tylenol and now a few years later you see all the things coming out now how unsafe Tylenol is for your unborn baby (linked to adhd and autism). I pray it was just a coincidence because my oldest when I was dealing with all my dental issues is high functioning, but still on the autism spectrum.
My doctor just put extra vest on me when I broke tooth at 37 weeks!
When I was pregnant I had the same thing happen, I was around 13 weeks I think, my dentist gave me basically a permission slip to get signed from my obgyn to do anything. My obgyn signed it and I got it done. Only time they suggest not to do it during the 3rd trimester
It’s fine, they will but an apron over you to protect the baby and you!
We put a vest over you that covers you from your neck to almost your knees. You should be fine. Getting an X-ray tells the dentist what angle is best to pull the tooth in.
You’ll have a shield/drape on for x-ray. You’ll be fine.
Let them know. When I was trying to get pregnant I told my dentist that I was trying to get pregnant and they put two vests on me. Then put one over my belly only.
Some dental procedures are safe and some are not. You definitely want to make sure the dentist knows you are pregnant before they treat you. The xrays are usually okay, they use extra drapes for added protection. You may want to ask the dentist ahead of time, because any time I have needed to see a dentist while pregnant they absolutely would not see me without a letter from my OB saying I was cleared for dental treatment.
It’s safe since it’s your mouth they’re x-raying. They’ll put a lead vest over your stomach. It’s better to get the dental work done now instead of closer to 3rd trimester.
Its fine, i had xrays for dental work in basically all my pregnancies and they were fine
I had something similar happen to me while I was pregnant. I had an infected abscess tooth around 8 weeks. I actually ended up at emergency because of how severe the pain was. (I’ve given birth x3 and it was worse than that) they gave me an antibiotic and tramadol which helped the pain but the tramadol made me very ill I only ended up taking it a few times but it did help the pain immensely. I eventually opted to wait until the second trimester to get it pulled. I think I made it until 11 weeks. They recommended waiting as long as I could possibly could, they did say that ultimately if the pain/infection is that severe then its better to have it taken care of as soon as possible. An infection isn’t good for the baby either. Go on some antibiotics and a safe pain medicine and see how you feel.
Also the x ray is completely safe they cover you with a gown.
Make sure you let them know you are pregnant, they will give you extra vest protection. I had a lot of dental work done at the end of my first pregnancy and never had an issue with the x-rays because they gave me the extras to make sure baby was safe. My baby boy came out perfectly healthy and unharmed by it all.
You’ll be fine. That’s what the heavy lead vests that they give you are for. A pregnant woman can’t always avoid x-rays, so they have precautions. I had dental work done during all of my pregnancies and had no issues with the remainder of my pregnancies or the children.
Totally safe. Been there, done that.
Your Dr just has to give you dental letter and it will tell them what they can do.they won’t touch you without it
They only x-ray your head so it shouldn’t harm baby at all. The radiation isn’t close enough. And they usually give you a vest to wear to protect from it.
I’ve had X-rays while pregnant and nothing has ever happen and my babies are healthy aside from the normal colds etc… ( for teeth extraction)
