I need so mom help, my four year old has become afraid of the dark and is refusing to sleep on her own room. We spent the last two night putting her back in her bad until she’s sleeping and than she wakes up and hour later to come in. When I ask her she said she is scared. We have two night lights in her room. What has anyone else done.
We have “monster spray” which is just lavender and water in a bottle and on nights we are not feeling our bravest we spray it around the room.
Get a light that lights up the ceiling.
Door open/close, hall light, closet light. Monsters? Movie freak her out? I had one sister who was afraid to go in her room because of the woman In the corner…she wears a white skirt with dark stuff on the bottom, has a bloody face and tells her to do bad things and went into huge detail about it all…had to do an exercisim twice. My other sister didn’t want to go in her room because the closet made noise…but there was a small window in the closet 10x10 and the neighbors bedroom echoed into the window. Then their rooms were too quiet so I had to put a radio on in the hall (right between their bedroom doors) to help make noise but not too much. It helped. My son didn’t like nightlights so we have a small Christmas tree up in his room that we change up every once in awhile so it’s not a nightlight in his mind
Ask her what she’s afraid of. I had 1 afraid of snakes. 1 was afraid of “the monster” who was actually her father. For the snake 1 I got him a flash light. Whatever he thought was a snake he’d shine the light on & figure out it wasn’t a snake. For the other I got rid of the father . Night lights are great but don’t reveal what they’re actually afraid of.
I’ve also heard of hanging chrystals in the room & telling them they keep the monsters away. Or “boo spray” which is actually water you spray in the closet, under the bed etc to keep scary things away.
She may also just be wanting more time with you. That’s ok momma! Soon she won’t want to be around you. I know that’s cliche but it’s true.
I am a huge fan of the night lights that look like a ball that are also sound machines. You can pick what color light and most have adjustable brightness and what sound they play. She might also need some white noise so random noises through the house don’t wake her up. The AC kicking on/off always wakes my son up so he has a sound machine in his room that literally just plays the sound of a fan. Also- if you’re going to buy something new, involve her in the purchase options! You know how kids are more likely to brush their teeth when they get to pick out the character tooth brush they like? Same concept! Hopefully she’ll feel more confidence in the light she helped choose
I did this with my kids… I got white noise machine and that helped. I also got a spray bottle and called it monster spray and when they go to bed spray it in the room.
