My baby wakes a lot to eat...advice?

I need help! My baby is starting to wake up at night for more bottles than ever! We already put oatmeal cereal in it. But he’s finishing it very fast and walking up all night… anything else you mommas put in bottles before ? He’s eating before bed and everything. Doctor suggested taking him off the bottle at night… that’s Not an option right now lol

Age comes into effect here. Cause it could be a growth spurt.

The age of your baby is very important. You should not be putting cereal in a bottle it’s a safety hazard though. Always feed baby cereal and food by spoon not bottle. Baby could be going through a growth spurt or need more wake and food time during the day.

Sounds like a growth spurt. You dont mention age, but if possible start feeding bowls of rice or oatmeal cereal made with formula & give a bottle before bed.

Time to add a little baby oatmeal to the milk in the bottle.

Mine is 6 months and started sleeping through the night pretty much as soon as she started eating at least 2 meals of solids a day… breakfast & dinner, with snacks and regular bottles in between. I’ve never put cereal in her bottle, but she was cleared by her Ped to start solids at 4 months. She goes to bed around 10pm, wakes up around 8am, takes maybe an hour to 90 minutes worth of naps throughout the day… 20-ish minutes at a time. How old are they? Do they nap a lot during the day? Are they in a growth spurt? Teething? We need a little more info before we can be of much help.

My midwife advised me to give a rusk in the night bottle, before bed, and if my baby woke at night to give boiled water, cooled of course! It was many years ago, but I only had to do it once! Baby never woke at night after that, except during teething of course!

Completely depends on babies age. But typically if over 4-6 months and this happens it is cause they aren’t getting enough calories during the day. And putting cereal in a bottle is a choking hazard. Feed the baby with it not dump in the bottle

Make rice cereal… I mixed it with baby food and diluted with a bit of water. Get it to a good consistency . Spoon feed it to them before their bottle. It worked like a charm

He needs heavier feedings througout the day. If hes still very hungry overnight he isnt getting enough in the day. Breakfast, then snack after 2 hrs. Lunch, snack after 2 hrs. Dinner, then oatmeal with a bottle on the side (not combined) then put him in a warm lavender bath and he should sleep better after his bath

Depends on age and putting cereal in the bottle is a choking hazard. If old enough feed him/her some before bed. It could be growth spurts and they will eat more during them. Definitely check with Dr. but think about how often and how many ounces baby has in 24 hours.

Before 1 babies typically don’t sleep well if they wake up hungry feed em. The only thing you put in a bottle is milk or formula. No cereal etc choking risk.

Over the age of one you can try breaking them from the bottle the first week everyone’s going to be exhusted. If the babies under the age of 1 you need a new Dr

Only formula or breast milk should be fed in a bottle. Cereal should never be added or anything else for that matter. It is a choking hazard.

Never put cereal in a bottle. Depending on the age probably should be eating baby food and table food also. Sounds like you are underfeeding her. She shouldn’t be waking up to be fed.

Feed him real food before bed. Baby led weaning us good. A couple bites of oatmeal in a bowl will fill his belly longer

How old? It’s normal for babies

Water in the bottle. It won’t hurt the teeth? How old is your baby?

I never gave my kids a bottle in bed. I held them. When too old for that no more bottles

Feed him some solid food about an hour before bedtime.

Start trying to give the binki instead of a bottle. That’s what I did. I replaced one night time feed with a binki instead and it worked

It 100% is an option depending on the child’s age
ASSUMING the doctor gave the ok to add oatmeal to the bottle that should put your baby around at least 6 to 9 months old so yes you can start decreasing night time feeding

Please don’t put anything in the bottle other then formula. How old is your LO?If they’re older enough to have solid food,Id start blw.I would do a little snack before bed as well.

How is the baby and which formula or milk? Maybe the milk needs to be switched to much oatmeal :bowl_with_spoon: could bloat the baby what about solid foods 6-8 months is baby on baby food, apple sauce, soft foods since the doctor said take him off the bottle?

If the doctor says it’s time for no more bottles then baby is probably right at a year old. Definitely bigger dinner and make sure baby is full before bed. Maybe switch to a sippy cup with water instead. They won’t like it at first but that is the age to wean them off bottles for sure. It’s probably a growth spurt making them hungry. Maybe try a snack if they are super persistent and hungry.

Babies wake up at night it’s normal. Ask a breastfeeding mom how often she wakes :joy:

 The constant wake-ups are so tough, especially when you’re already doing everything you can to fill that tiny belly! Honestly, I think we’ve all been there, and I wish I had a magic answer for you!

I remember when my little guy started waking more, and I was like, “Wait, are we going backwards here?!” But sometimes, babies hit growth spurts or even regressions, and their little bodies just need those extra calories (or comfort!).:heart:

Since adding oatmeal isn’t doing the trick, have you tried making sure the bottle before bed is extra cozy and filling? Maybe try giving him a little more formula (if he’s finishing quickly, he might be needing just a bit more). You can also check if he’s getting distracted while feeding—sometimes they’re too busy to eat during the day, so they make up for it at night.

And hey, I totally get it—taking away the night bottle feels impossible right now. You’ve got this, mama! Hang in there and give yourself some grace. This phase will pass. :sparkling_heart: Sending caffeine and virtual hugs! :coffee::two_hearts:

xoxo Nina

Ours was a lot of ear infections. After months of sleeping through the night he stopped at 6 months. He had ear issues and the sucking was helping him.
