My daughters ortho thinks my daughter needs to have 2 teeth pulled...advice?

I need some opinions… my daughter is 11 and her ortho recommended we remove two teeth because her mouth is on the small side and her adult teeth don’t have enough room and it’s causing her top teeth the kind of protrude forward. I know it will be what is best to give her the best smile but I hate knowing it’s going to hurt her.

It doesn’t really hurt that much honestly. I had to have 2 teeth pulled when I had braces for the same reason.

I had the same problem and they pulled all four wisdom teeth at the same time when I was 16.

My daughter just had to have 6 baby teeth removed as they were impacted and causing a lot of pain so was recommended to do it at the hospital. She is 10 and had so much anxiety at the hospital they had to sedate her in order to get her into surgery. That was probably the hardest thing about the whole situation as soon as they were out she was no longer complaining of her teeth being sore. My thoughts prior were if it was to hurt for a few hours after removing and would stop the pain she is currently in , then it was so much better to know she would be only in a small amount of pain for a short while then the long term impacts of not having them removed.

Had 6 taken out for same reason in G8 maybe ? It’s all good …pain meds …

Better to have them now than to have to have braces and other work in the future.

Iv had a couple pulled for almost the same reason, only one of them hurt and that was because it was rotten, gross I know. You and her can ask for nitros, it’s laughing gas but it’s cut with O2 so there are no lasting effects. I have horrible anxiety about the dentist and get it when I go in and I am safe to drive home afterwards. Have her take some Tylenol/ibuprofen 30-45 minutes before had for the after pain. And please make sure to take the aftercare plan serious. No straws especially. Headphones and a movie help me too.

You know what’s really going to hurt her?…. Go through school with her teeth looking like a meth head. Get her teeth fixed now for her physical health and the mental health

I was the same way, I’m 26 now and have a very small mouth. I think I had 8 or more adult teeth pulled I only have 22 teeth in my mouth. It was the thing i dreaded the most as a child but it needed to be done and after it was over not a big deal. I had 4 pulled and put under if I remember right before I got braces so maybe like 4th grade. Then had my wisdom teeth but you gotta get it done or else she will have terrible looking teeth and pain. You gotta make the right decision for her and it’s whatever the ortho thinks plus from someone who has been through it just do it. I’d rather not have an ugly smile.

Laughing gas all the way… makes it so easy. Baby teeth come out easy too.

It’s that or braces. What’s easier and cheaper? Pulled teeth.

My son was 10y/o and had to have 12 baby teeth extracted. Then had braces. It all worked out, very well.

The only pain is from the shot to numb the mouth. I had 8 teeth pulled when I was 12 due to too little of a jaw.

You should use the word orthodontist instead of Ortho. Ortho is usually short for orthopedic. I got confused for a moment and was wondering why an orthopedic was giving orthodontist advice :joy::woman_facepalming:t2:

I had to have 4 teeth pulled before I could get braces. 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. I was in 7th grade. Honestly those 4 were way easier than the wisdom teeth. If she needs it done, she needs it done. They put me under and I got to spend the whole day napping…

My kiddo had 8 teeth pulled, 4 wisdom and 4 adult teeth, for her braces. It hurt temporarily to give her the most beautiful smile and she hasn’t regretted it for a second.

Are they baby teeth or permanent teeth? Because if they’re permanent teeth I would not that’s loosing two permanent healthy teeth. She’s just going through puberty her arch will widen and grow I would keep them and remove wisdom teeth when it’s time

When I was her age, that’s what I had needed as well. Along with all the insecurities of adolescence and getting braces I told my folks No I don’t want them . My folks didn’t talk me into getting them, and now as a senior citizen I SO regret that decision! My bottom teeth are all crooked, one incisor on top out of alignment, and I am just SICK that I didn’t get the teeth pulled and braces ON. Even have thought of getting the invisiline ones at this age, but very expensive .

They had to do this to me so they remove two back teeth. It did help and the pain only lasted maybe two days

I had 4 bicuspids removed at that age, was sore afterwards but got through it. Palatal expansion may not be an option in her case. You could visit another ortho, but would have to pay the exam fee bc ins would more that likely not pay for a 2nd ortho consult. You can always explore your options before starting her ortho treatment. I was a dental asst for 18 years, its a pretty standard practice still

I also have small mouth and when I was young the dentist pulled a few teeth to give me room for growth. When I had my braces put on they put a bridge to fill the small gap. My bottom teeth look amazing but as I age, my upper teeth have shifted. My point is they may not have to pull teeth. I would be hesitant as they are healthy teeth.
