My doctor told me that finding a cyst in the babies brain this early was normal: Thoughts?

Please post anonymously! My question is, has any mom has been told during their anatomy scan while pregnant that they saw a cyst in babies’ brains? The doctor told me it’s very common to see this at this stage, and more than likely, it will go away, but I’m freaking out !!! Please post for me thank you so much

My daughter just went through this with her current pregnancy. The cyst went away and as a precaution they did genetic blood work. Try not to worry!

This happened to my son on my 20-week ultrasound. My son was perfectly fine, and it was gone on the next ultrasound. I also panicked and was so scared. Just keep your head up and try not to worry. I know how hard it can be.:heart::heart:

Yes. All 4 of my kids had cysts on their brain at 20 week scan. First time they checked to make sure it was nothing more… as we kept having kids they said it’s normal and all my kids are perfect and healthy with no cysts. It is def scary first time though.

Happened with my son, he had one on his brain and one on his right kidney. The one on his brain went away before birth and the one on his kidney idk about. His pediatrician told me if he’s urinating normal he’s good. So completely normal!!

My mom always told me I had a cyst the size of a tennis ball (!) On my brain at her 7 month scan. And kidney cysts. She was ultrasounded every week until I was born. They said I’d be born severely mentally handicapped and would never walk and probably wouldn’t live to see 3 years old. Here I am, I’m 28 and have 3 kids of my own. Everything went away on her last scan before I was born.

My daughter had a cyst in her brain on our anatomy scan at 19 weeks. He said it would probably go away and if not we would talk about it before delivery. I got a kidney infection at 24 weeks and they did an ultrasound. It was gone

I have not gone through this but I just gotta post that I love this page for this reason! While we are not doctors, hearing people that have gone through something similar can help us sleep at night. You’re all amazing for bringing some peace and hope to other mamas. Being a mom is scary and it’s hard.

this just happened to me! at my 17 week 3 day scan they found what they called a bubble. My doctor was actually really mad that they even told me because they almost always go away around 20 weeks. I was a mess and freaking out…sure enough went back 4 weeks later and it was totally gone.

Yes! I was told this when I was pregnant with my daughter and they sent me to a specialist. When I got there they didn’t find anything! Don’t worry

My son never had one on his ultrasound but he is 4years old almost 5 and has been living with one for almost 4 years and is healthy. They said surgery may be an option if the cyst grows faster than his brain but has not yet. I go once a year to get an mri for him to check on it

One of my 3 babies had this. They did another ultrasound when I was further along and it was gone. He is a happy healthy 5 year old now

My daughter had two. They were gone before she was born.

Yes, my oldest daughter. Went away before birth

My oldest did, it showed up on my 20 wk scan. They had me come back few wks later to redo ultrasound and it was gone. He is now 12 years old. So far no issues.

My son had a cyst on his brain that was visible on the sonogram, when he was born he was preemie and they still saw the cyst during a brain scan but it was like 1 or 2 centimeters long and not a concern

My daughter was diagnosed with a cyst early on in my pregnancy. My dr said it would disappear and it did. She’s 17 now and healthy. I was told that many of us in utero probably had cysts that disappeared but our parents would never have known because they didn’t have the technology they have today. I worried endlessly but everything turned out ok.

They said my youngest had a cyst when she was about 26 weeks in my belly. Had another ultrasound maybe 1 week later it was no where to be found.

My 2nd daughter had one when I got my 18 week ultrasound done. I got another ultrasound done a month later and it was gone. She is 6 yo now and is perfectly fine. I don’t think that you have anything to worry about.

My grandson also had what they thought was a cyst …they kept a close watch on…my daughter went to all the specialists…but when he was born and they did the MRI no cyst …he was born without his pituitary gland , but he is progressing normally, his weight and height are spot on, no delays at all

Choroid plexus cysts are common in babies under 30 weeks! I had the same thing happen we found out at our 20 week ultrasound and went for a level 2 ultrasound. Sometimes they do not go away and that is when they look for markers for other things like trisomy 18. Best of luck to you! The best advice I can give you is try not to freak yourself out about it, I know that’s the hardest thing to do but just try to keep your mind busy on something else!

I had this happen with my pregnancy. We were called after the 6month ultrasound about seeing cysts on the babies brain and that they wanted to do another ultrasound. We went in around 7 months and they said that they weren’t there anymore and that is was rather common. My lo is 9months old and smart and healthy.

We were told at 20 weeks scam my daughter had a choroid plexus cyst. They did other genetic testing and lots of anatomy scans to test for chromosome abnormalities. They told us it would probably go away. It was still there after birth. My daughter is 5 and has no issues from it. We had to have a couple of scans after birth and at 6 months.

My son was diagnosed with choroid plexus cysts while I was pregnant. I had to have an amniocentesis to rule out any genetic abnormalities… he’ll be 22 in November.

We were told my grandson had one but not to worry that it was common. The doctor that was doing the ultrasound said his baby had one. Take a deep breath and relax. Best wishes!

Yes and my great grandson is fine it’s scary though good luck

My son had a Choroid Plexus Cyst diagnosed his anatomy scan. They repeated a scan at 24 weeks and it weeks and it was gone! He’s thankfully a perfectly healthy 12 year old today!!!

Never heard of this, and I’m sure hearing “baby’s brain” & “cysts” together is scary. But from the posts, seems normal.

Sounds like it makes sense. Their bodies are forming and there’s room for cysts to grow but the body likely just breaks it down. Could possibly even be hormonal. I had ovarian cysts that came and went during my cycles sometimes. They’ll keep an eye on it and if they say it should be fine theres little reason to worry.

I have joubert (Joo bare) syndrome, so I have a cyst on my brain, developed in the womb, I’m 27 years old and its caused absolutely no issues to me, hopefully your baby won’t have it for that long but if it’s open (meaning it drains on its own) it will cause no issues

Yes, my baby had two cysts on the brain at 20 weeks. I stressed for several weeks until the level 2 ultrasound. They were gone at the level 2 ultrasound and he is a perfectly healthy kid.

My daughter had one too …she is 20 years old and perfect…it went away by the next scan

Mine had three. Next appointment they were all gone. Her development has been right on track and the doctors have zero concern where she is concerned.

They didn’t routinely do ultrasounds when I had my kids.

My son had a cyst in his brain but the doctors assured me it was common. The cyst disappeared and my son is going on 4 and is as normal as can be.

I had one at my 20 week scan. They did another scan at 24 weeks and it was gone. My daughter is 8 and completely fine.

They told me the same thing. My daughter is now 4 and is perfectly healthy

Yes very common … two of my brothers children had this diagnosis and then when they went back theee weeks later they resolved on their own

Mine had one… He is now 12 and a perfectly normal severely ADHD child, just has energy over the top.

Yes, twice, both babies were perfectly fine!

I was told that my son had a cyst in his brain late in pregnancy and it was gone a few weeks later

Yes it’s very common and it does go away

They told my daughter in law the same thing when she was pregnant a year ago. These types of cysts usually disolve themselves

Mine has an arachnoid cysterna magna. She is 2.5 yrs, still has it. She is delayed in speech and very hyperactive. They can’t tell me why. They say these cysts are a normal finding.

Yes, my oldest son had a cyst. It was gone once he was born.

Happened to my daughter. Baby is fine.

That is really scary. I don’t blame you.

Not sure how far along you are in your pregnancy but my now 12 year old son also had a benign cyst in his brain that was discovered around 12-16 weeks of pregnancy when I went in for my high risk ultrasound. And then was still present around 30 weeks (I believe). We had a MRI when he was about 2 and it was not seen any longer. My son has some mild ADD and a reading learning disability but other than that he is a normal healthy and happy kid!! Doctor could not tell me whether or not the cyst caused his ADD or learning disability but I am just so grateful he is otherwise ok. Many blessings to you and your baby!!

Nope, Never heard of it. But then again, my kids have kids and we didn’t have the scans you have today! Had my first sonogram with my 2nd baby in 1981. Pregnancy today is nothing like it was in my day. We’ve have advanced so far.

Yes 3/4 of mine had on at my anatomy scan and were gone by next appointment or by the time they were born.

My daughter had 1 when she was born at 34 weeks and it wasnt something that was harmful to her developement.
