I am literally living through the nightmare aftermath of my then husband now stbx doing the exact same!! So I can tell you from personal experience that home is considered a premarital asset and I don’t know about other states but in the state of VA that meant I have ZERO rights to the home. Regardless of the fact that my paycheck went into the same account that was used to pay the mortgage for said home monthly over the course of many years and regardless of the fact that my paycheck went into the same account that was used to pay for renovations/remodeling on said home. The home was purchased as a “short sale” and “AS IS” to be a fixer upper for us when we were newly weds at 18, he purchased it as a wedding present and had his dad on the loan just for credit history since we he had none at 18. The home was purchased at $200,000 and with all of the renovations and remodeling he sold it for $475,000. I did not get not 1 PENNY!! So please do NOT put another dime into that home unless your name is added to the deed. Please protect your self. I wish I had
Take your receipts to a lawyer and ask, that’s your best bet. Refrain from putting money into a house that’s not yours in the interim.
It was a hpuse he had before the marriage that being said ,did he ever tell you he would add your name afyer you married if not you should not have put any money into his home ,your children are not entilteled to any part of his home if he dies, you could ask for the money you put into the house if he sells it ,but if you are not paying towards the.house and you and your children live there ,then i think you are even
