Oh good lord of course you should be offended stand up to them, sometimes in-laws can be horrible.
You need to put a stop to the trash talking.
Tell them to stop talking trash in front of you and the kids. If they do this in front of you the do it in front of kids
I would defend my husband in a heartbeat I don’t care who is knocking him down. He’s an awesome man 
no hesitations from me. 
AND the real question is, what are you doing to stop this bullshit behavior? Why would you listen to this? Answer those questions…
