Wondering if I should say something to the school or just let it go so this morning my 7 year old and 4 year old got on there bus I could see them still walking to there seats and before they were Even seated the bus driver takes off and starts driving it kinda upsets me because they could have easily lost there Balance and fell not sure if I should say something or just let it go
Yes you should say something.
Don’t wait until something bad happens.
I would have been pounding in the window and then went straight to the school
Office!!
Yes you should say something
Yeah, I would speak to the driver. My kids don’t get the bus because it’s within walking distance however when we get the bus into town there’s been a few times when they’ve drove off before were seated and my 3 and 5 year olds have face planted the floor or railing.
You should absolutely say something. And if he/she keeps doing it you should demand they be fired.
This happened to me in middle school. He started to drive off as I was turning to sit down. Tore my ligaments in my knee giving me life long problems. Absolutely say something…
I thought this was common practice
Hasn’t it always been like this riding the bus? I don’t remember them ever waiting. Same with public transportation. Idk if they are supposed to wait to be honest. I guess you can always say something and see if anything happens.
I probably wouldn’t pick a fight with the bus driver this early into the year. Wait and see if it’s a one time thing first?
Do you live a city cause city bus drivers dnt care and ppl stand on city buses and subways all the time…js they are training them now
When I caught the bus the bus never waited you stumble the first time then learn to hang on.
Yeah say something, what if they fall down and hit their head or something
I don’t ever remember a bus being at full stop until I was seated. We always just used the seats to balance and I grew up on dirt roads
We need a “raising kids with issues” stamp/tag/emoji, i dread to think the sheltered bubble she has them in rn if this is considered an issue.
You could just talk to the driver. Im sure he would listen and not take off until they are seated.
Seriously have you been on a bid tram exetra it’s normal when I went to school half kids had to stand not enough seats
I’d let it go… this has been happening forever, even since I was a kid. They really don’t have time to wait and usually don’t start moving until the child is about to be seated. I’m not saying this is right, but heck, back when I was in school, the buses were over crowded, some of us were left standing the entire time
People have been standing and moving around on buses while moving for decades before you were born an probably will do long after your gone.
School don’t do nothing cept reprimand the driver. Call school transportation. They’ll listen busdriver will have learn or get docked in pay. Call n complain. You the parent. Make sure you’re kid is safe
It’s totally normal
Even public busses do it
If they waited for everyone to be properly seated they’d never get anywhere on time
You’re damn straight you should something. That’s precious cargo that driver is carrying. Phone the school asap. If you don’t say something he/she will continue on as if nothing is wrong…
Yes.
Say something: to the school.
My daughter her bus driver waits for them to sit down.I would talk to the school.
Take them to school! Problem solved… Become a bus driver I’m sure they definitely need help!
#1 Get your kids to move their bodies a wee bit faster to their seat #2 maybe you should try driving a school bus #3 do you even acknowledge the driver, what is the drivers name #4 walk your kids to school it’s great exercise and you will not have to worry about a bus driver !!!
They are supposed to wait till everyone is seated
In our district the 4yrs have to be buckled in a 5 point harness and it must be checked before the bus can move. I would be concerned about the little one. By 7, they can manage it!
For everyone saying it’s normal, it’s not normal for us. My girls driver is great. She waits until all three are fully seated and ready to go. Try talking with the bus driver first. Just mention your little one loses balance easily could they please wait until the kids are seated that way no one falls. If it still becomes and issue after that then take it higher up.
Myself I would say something to the bus driver…but that’s just me.
I would definitely bring it to the bus drivers attention that you seen it and you would really appreciate if they would wait until your child is in a seat before taking off and if it continues talk to the principal. But as I read in another comment they’re so short staffed I’m not even sure if anything would be done.
But when I was in school out bus driver always took off before we sat down
Why don’t you say something to the bus driver?
That’s A SAFETY ISSUE…U R Your Child’s Voice…
Stand right there an tell him or her not to leave until they are seated. We’ll that’s what I would do an if they didn’t. I would stand in the bus doors until they were seated. An continue to do so until he or she got the message
But did they lose balance or fall? If no then let it go.
Our bus driver always did that. We were fine.
Since he’s 4, yes.
I’d just tell the 7yr old to move quicker and hold on.
It’s survival.
Sure you can say something but the odds of them actually saying or doing something is slim to none. There is a bus driver shortage everywhere and they can’t afford to lose drivers-even the bad ones.
I’d prob make a few muffins , wrap them up and step up on the bus and hand them to the driver and say “ my youngest child (insert name ) loses his balance easily if you wouldn’t mind can you make sure he’s seated before you pull away “ and then thank them for getting your babies to school safely every day
We used to stand up when I was little but I’m sure the bus was moving to fast! They watch through their mirror while they are walking down the aisle
Say something but don’t be aggressive just say it would be safer if he waited until their seated. I’m sure it’s just an oversight needs to be reminded more than reprimanded .
talk to the bus garage about the driver they should be fully stopped still until sitting down but before that try to talk to the driver if driver doesnt listen then talk otherwise
We ride horses! So a little bump doesn’t hurt our kids! Shuffle on! Teaches them balance and a backbone! I’m also a Gen X though! We were tough as nails! No snow uphills both ways, but still! 4 year olds ride 4wheelers these days
Girl… have you ever rode a bus lol. They don’t care if you jumping , they on a mission🤣
Call the bus transportation and talk to them and ask about procedures… and yes it’s normal so tell the kids to hang on!!
I grew up in the country in GA. Our potholes sent us flying into the ceiling, hitting our skulls & went about our day like normal. We even drank water from a dirty hose & we’re still here maybe bring him to school yourself so you’re sure of his safety
Call the company and tell on her. I am a bus driver and that is not okay. She will get a talk and a training.
U will need to add time on the route if u wait for the kids to sit down I was a bus driver.
Don’t say anything. You may need that bus driver for something bigger.
Call transportation at the school district and report it! That’s a safety hazard!
I’m a bus driver and I would absolutely say something but call the bus ban and talk to them so it’s anonymous and I’m sure they will stop bus drivers don’t get the credit we deserve most of us do the best we can and care lots for our babies and I’m talking about all of them including the older kids they are amazing even when things are difficult they are great love my job as a bus driver my personal children are grown and on their own but my kids help with that void in my life
I’d say something to the driver
Say something before anyone gets hurt we can all remember how it was back in the day
Right here’s what’s wrong with our world today my baby this my baby that my God kids have been riding busses for years an years but now oh don’t do this don’t do that little Johnny my get scared or oh my a paper cut we are raising a bunch of little mommy an daddy little babies that grow up to be BIG BABIES
tell your kids to hurry and get to their seats. the bus drivers never waited for us to get seated, they took off as soon as we were halfway back to our seats and we just had to hang on
It’s all part of riding the school bus because I never remember a time my bus driver reminded stopped until everyone was seated and ready to move on. Once the last kid getting on got past the driver the door shut and we went on our way. Imagine how long the route would be if you allowed every child to find a seat of their choice and make themselves comfortable before moving on.
I was a school bus driver for many years my did not move until kids seated seat belts on yes have a QUIET word with driver
Teach your kids to hustle and sit down. They’re all right, just learning balance is all.
Mine did the same , but I know they have a route they need to do. Figured it would teach mine balance or to move a little quicker
Absolutely you might save a life
I was a bus driver for 10 years and you are supposed to wait til the children are seated before you move the bus so, yes talk to the director of transportation.
I wouldn’t say anything. I’d be happy they are providing transportation and nobody was hurt. If it bothers you that bad, maybe consider carpool?
Or you could tell your kids to go faster. Drivers got places to be and on a schedule. Ours are running 2 to 3 routes more than normal due to shortage. Noone has time to coddle on the bus. Hold on n go!
Talk to the driver before starting unnecessary drama
Sure get the person in trouble for a small mistake. Drive the kid yourself.
Guys a 4 year old isn’t the same as a middle schooler. Yes say something. Your 4 year old needs to be seated before its moving, absolutely. In my state 4 year Olds have to be buckled by the parent or assistant before the bus can move. Your not asking for much. It’s take less than 10 extra seconds…
I fear for the youth of today! They’re going to grow up and not know how to function on their own!
Unless the bus driver tossed their cigarette out the window, slammed their 40 and floored it, it’s not that serious.
I’d say something to the driver. They need to be more aware
We’re your kids hurt? No? Then move on
I’d say something. Last year my daughter got on the bus when it was rainy and the bus driver just closed the door and took off. She ended up losing her balance and falling, slid under the seat and scraped her shin when she fell. The school gave me the run around about the bus drivers “driving safe” but also said they are timed while driving the bus. I was furious but I guess the bus driver got mad I went up and said something so she quit. I’m glad she quit though. She was definitely going 35/45 in my neighborhood
If the bus driver waited for every child to sit down they wouldn’t get to school until noon.
Is it a big bus or a short one. If it’s a big one it’s KINDA normal but it’s not right. I agree wit the comment stating bring the driver muffins or something and ask that she pull off slower so kiddo don’t lose balance n fall and thank the driver for driving your kids.
If it’s a short bus you can sign a paper requiring the youngest to be put either in a star seat or a harness. Otherwise the small busses do have seat belts and drivers aren’t aloud to drive off untill every kid is clicked in.
Is it normal? Absolutely not. I will never understand how people think this is ok. However, it is very common. Sad and absolutely disgusting, but welcome to the American public school system where they don’t actully care. The school won’t do anything, if anything call your schools transportation center and ask to speak to the head guy. Maybe talk to the bus driver. Other then that, in this new world good luck.
Definitely say something BUT as stated before id bake some cookies and take them to the bus driver and say if you could please wait until they are seated before taking off my youngest (child’s name) gets off balance easily. Then just make sure you talk to your kids as well and let them know to get a seat quickly because they gotta get them to school
Seems like yall don’t remember being a kid lol
Most of those kids probably stand up and jump around like hoodlums while the bus is moving anyway, when you’re NOT looking. Bus drivers have it hard enough dealing with our brats…No need for drama over something so miniscule.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a bus wait until the kids are fully settled. You could mention it but seems like one of those times you pick your battles. It’s a vehicle with no seat belts anyway plus pulling off is slow for such a big vehicle, never seen a child struggle to walk the two seconds to a seat when it’s barely crawling.
Bus shouldn’t t be moving til all asses are sat down - period I’d call the bus company
Ummm it’s always been like this i remember walking the aisle to get to the back as the bus was moving. Stop being a helicopter parent
Before you get into an uproar speak to the bus driver. If it continues then say something to the school.
Is it really that big of a deal? your kids can hold onto seats to keep their balance as they walk to their seats… busses don’t even have seat belts.
You have to report it to the school and the school bus company. It’s against many bus companies protocol and if I remember right It’s illegal to move the bus until everyone is seated. My father worked at a school bus company for 40 years. I was raised around and took the school bus for years to school.
Oh boy….do your kids wear knee pads and a helmet when they are outside too? Do they go outside??
I would politely bring it up to the driver. Perhaps he or she was behind schedule and jump started when they shouldn’t have but if it is pointed out, it is not likely to happen again (especially not at your children’s stop).
See if it happens again and report it . They are not to move unless children ate seated
Ask yourself
Is that the hill you want to die on
Riding the bus is optional… Don’t like it then take your kid to school.
Just ask what the policy is for kids getting on bus and getting to seat? Just be polite and say I’m just wondering.
Call the transportation department for your school district and file the complaint there.
If a kid stands up on the bus, they get yelled at and possibly written up. And kicked off the bus. Why? Cause it’s dangerous. This is no different except the child is getting onto the bus and walking to their seat. The bus driver should be patient and let the little kids sit down before slinging them around all over the place. It’s an accident waiting to happen. And their job is to get the children to and from safely. Before anyone says . Drive them yourself. Some people have jobs to get to and that isn’t an option.
With anything school related you want to pick and chose the battles. Never want to make things harder on the kids. If you want to address it, do it very nicely and in a nonconfrontational way with the driver himself. Just say something like the youngest loses his/her balance easily. You get more bees with sugar and its usually best to address things in the least aggressive ways. Most likely if you do this you will see an understanding driver who will then look out for the little one with extra care.
Wait … busses wait until everyone is seated? . Since when?
You could talk to the driver before anyone else.
Consider driving your kids yourself then. Apparently you never rode the bus as a kid.
Maybe you should take your kids to school since you helicopter anyway.
Talk to transportation department. And also to your littles about holding onto the bars on tops of seats. To Make sure they safely get to their seats.
Call transportation make a report. This your children’s safety.
Ours always took off … are your kids messing around, taking to long, talking… our area there are no 4 year Olds or preschool age that ride busses
Yes! He could’ve run over your kid!
The parents here against the bus driver are probably the same parents who get upset if the bus is late. (Of course you all will say you don’t get mad standing in the cold or rain an extra 10-15 minutes. We all know that’s a lie).
Bus drivers have schedules to keep. Each long good bye or kids who take a long time sitting down get them off schedule. Sometimes they have to pull off before kids are seated to stay on schedule or try to catch up.
Keep good byes short. As soon as that door opens kids should be stepping on the bus. Talk to your kids about finding a seat quickly. Talk to the Busdriver. She may have other suggestions. Don’t be hostile. Remember this person is responsible for your kids safety. If you anger them that may impair their reaction time. Be polite & understanding. Driving a school bus is a tough job.
