Tell your mother-in-law not to come. Why is it any of her business if YOU want to have a baby shower for YOUR baby? She sounds like a control freak. You’re married to your husband, not his mother! You two make the decision on your own and don’t worry about what other people think.
Obviously, your MIL must have been trying to save face bc nobody likes her enough to go to any of HER showers.
Rich celebrities have baby showers—look at the soirée’s done by the Kardashians! They could afford to use real money as DECORATIONS, yet they had showers. 
A baby shower is to celebrate the baby you are adding to your growing family. And a decent person would want to buy a gift for the coming baby—by registering and having a shower, you can avoid returning 72 baby bathtubs and ensure you get only ONE of each big-ticket item. Also, you get to have baby-themed games n give friends prizes! How fun is THAT?!?
Your MIL is a nasty ol’ sourpuss. Let SIL throw u the shower, n if MIL doesn’t care for it, she can keep her ol’ ass home that day……
