My mother in law, has one grandchild - my step-son. She has made it very clear that he is her favourite person in the world, to the point she has started putting aside heirlooms and other keepsakes that she wants him to have. That’s not a huge deal, I think she’s a little spooked after her ex passed away earlier this year at 48 so she wants to have all her ducks in a row if anything were to happen to her. I get that I do, but what kind of bothered me the other day was when she looked at me and said “I only have one grandchild and I like it that way.” My partner and I have been trying to conceive with no avail for the past few years, and hearing her say that just kind of broke me. Am I in the wrong for being upset?
If she knew that you were trying to conceive, what she said was cruel l, rude and disrespectful. If not, it’s just her opinion on her family.
