Can I please do an anonymous post. Thank you. I’m about to lose my mind. It’s 11:30PM. I have to be up at 5 every morning. I live on a second floor apartment with very thin walls. Brand new buildings, you’d think they would think about that part when building them. The tenants upstairs are obnoxiously loud. I swear they are making videos all night. I’ve tried everything to drown out the sounds, the obnoxious screams, banging against the wall, the whole 9 you know what I mean. It’s a nightmare. They constantly wake me out of a deep sleep. I’m so fed up. The constant banging is so hard and loud you’d think they were trying to jump through my ceiling. They are young, super ignorant and inconsiderate of their neighbors. The neighbors next to me have complained as well. Management does nothing. She wakes up at 5am and I swear immediately puts heels on and stomps around the house while getting ready for work. They blast music after work and the bass is so loud it drives me up a tree. I put the tv up loud or put white noise on and I swear they increase the volume/bass. I don’t have the money to leave right now and it’s 3k to break the lease. Myself and the neighbor have asked them numerous times to be mindful. The neighbor has an infant and they are just as frustrated if not more. I’m at my wits end. How can we get these kids out of here? How can we annoy them enough they will just leave? Has anyone else dealt with terrible neighbors? What have y’all done? Thanks An annoyed neighbor.
Call the cops every time quiet time is in place. Normally there’s a noise ordinance between 9/10pm- 7/8am. File complaints daily to non emergency line every day if you have too. They will eventually get kicked out if they’re not following noise ordinance laws.
I would stay one management you and other neighbor. Keep complaining have proof. They’ll have to do something. Maybe find out if they can move them!! It wouldn’t be right to move you guys.
Call the cops. Management won’t do anything call the cops. Each and every single time they will get fed up with them being there.
File a noise complaint against them not only with the landlord but also with the police.
Continue to do it - rack up enough Evidence to get them kicked out by using the system against them and the landlord by enforcing Tenant Rights
Ok 1 - this is part of apartment living.
2 - the grass isn’t always greener on the other side…if you get these guys out, the next tenants to move in could be just as bad, if not worse.
Now, with that said, you could contact corporate/the property owners. Sometimes the managers are just lazy and do nothing.
Or you could contact your local non emergency police line, as most places have noise ordinances. However, unless their noise can be heard from outside, the police usually won’t do much. Thin walls doesn’t constitute a noise violation. The police will just tell you “that’s apartment living and to get over it or move”.
I absolutely loathe the “that’s just apartment life” response.
No it’s not. Stomping around in heels and banging around is so rude. Nobody expects you to be a mouse, but it’s common courtesy to take measures to reduce noise.
I always took off my shoes when I got home, didn’t stomp around, and kept my music at a respectable level when I lived on the top floor.
I also did my neighbors the courtesy of letting them know if I was going to have a bunch of people over or have a party.
It’s not hard to be decent
uk ? private tenant officer council, record everything and ask Shelter for advice
In TN there’s noise pollution laws. Call and talk to the police about what you can do.
I moved to south Georgia out in the country problem solved
I know this is is last resort but consider moving…
When it comes to renting this is a very common problem unless you rent a house. Only reason I say this is because we went through a similar situation only problem was that we lived top floor (worst mistake on our part since we had never rented top and always been bottom floor) we also arent people to make noise, we keep to ourselves and respect others but we did have a toddler at the time. As you can imagine… very thin floors. As im making breakfast and barely walking down my hall… you could HEAR everything. The same night we moved in and had only put our boxes (no furniture) there already was a complaint. It was ridiculous. Next thing you know this was a daily occurrence for the whole year when we werent even doing anything. This was also during the pandemic when we were forced to be stuck inside/ we had alot of california fires too. We ended up moving soon after our yearly lease was up and now live in a home where we are so much at peace. Neighbors are on the older side (which helps so much since they will never be crazy and make noise at all hours of the night haha, and we loveee it) very kid friendly too.
Maybe they can give you a different apartment? That way you don’t break the lease but they can still accommodate you.
Report to police and council for noise and antisocial behaviour and also make the management do something
It’s time to start calling the police.
Call the non emergency police line, start filing noise ordinance complaints.
Yes! I have had some not so nice neighbours, constantly frustrated at the time. Then of course I realised I was allowing my frustration to grow. I thought of what I had told others when they had some unhappy things happening for them, so I said to send them love as these others that didn’t seem to care for one’s around them must be lacking love. Oh! yes! I can almost hear most having a good laugh or thinking yeah! right! I myself choose to do this whilst having 2 very not so nice neighbours. They both moved within a couple of weeks. I have shared this with others who have told me later it worked for them also. Good Luck! Send the love!
Ear plugs are amazing to help sleep other than that you can’t have homeowner expectations when renting
Call the cops every time quiet time is in place. Normally there’s a noise ordinance between 9/10pm- 7/8am. File complaints daily to non emergency line every day if you have too. They will eventually get kicked out if they’re not following noise ordinance laws.
Call the non emergency police number. After a certain time they are laws against noises
If it past queit time call the cops. Enough calls and reports the management will get fined for them having to come out all the time and have to give them a violation. Too many violations and they’ll be kicked out.
(Atleast that’s what happens where I am, I live in apartments and this happened)
Call management then call the cops if it’s not resolved. I get the apartment life sucks we had some college students above us that were this way. But I ended up calling management in the morning and logging everything that happened a few times and then it was a strike 3 for them and they would be kicked out for breaking the lease due to noise
If youve notified mgmt and theyve done nothing then you find out what the laws in your city are about noise and start calling the cops.
Every town has an peace ordinate, call your town hall. In my town after 10pm is against the law and the poilce can be called. Do wat ya gotta do. U pay to live in peace and the law does protect it.
Simple ring police everytime they do this, they will end up being quiet or getting kicked out
Go over the managers head. Its only a job for them.Find out who ownes the apartments. Take it to the top.Good luck
I would get tougher with management. I would also contact an attorney, should be free to just ask. See if this allows you to break your lease, without any penalty, or back mark. Let management aware that you will be contacting an attorney, and have the other neighbors sign a complaint, and present it.
Multiple police reports will help as every complex has a noise curfew
Call the police there are noise ordinances
Go see your local magistrate and learn the laws for tenants where you live.
Your local magistrate should be able to guide you to finding a resolution
Plan to Move. We can’t control others or control their behavior but we can control what we do. I would be looking at other places.
call the police since management doesn’t do their job
Call the police and make a noise complaint every single night.
Noise complaints to the police. Soon enough the police will go to management and inform them they need to do something. Get it on the record.
Petty me would blast music when they were sleeping. See how they like it. I’d see if the other neighbors could join in too.
Usually a noise ordinance in every state. If the police are called to an address at apt it’s logged with management. After so many calls they have to do something. Also record it and send to management for proof. If manager does nothing ask for corporate information
You need to reach out above your lazy management. I’ve had this issue but they would start blasting nightly around 1am till I had to wake up. Baby would be awake and all.
If management does nothing call the police . Might also look at your lease and see what it says about noise or complaints. You might be able to threaten landlord with legal action and break the lease with no penalty
Start calling the police st the quiet curfew- usually 10 or 11 pm.
Call the police. It might be a noise ordinance issue, and they are violating it
Call law enforcement and keep a record. Take the tenants to court and sue them for disturbing your peace. You have rights. You are entitled to peace and quiet after a certain time at night and morning. I would also sue the owner.
SWAT them or fake SWAT them, just say they’re masking an abuse or assault situation with loud music, do it every night at 10:01 pm until they are forced by management to quiet down or move
I meeean, thinking they need to accommodate to YOUR sleep schedule is a little selfish. As a night shift worker myself, I wish a neighbor would tell me to quiet down in my own home. Plus, you just said the walls are thin so thinking they’re being obnoxious on purpose is crazy. If it’s really so bothersome, move into a place more suitable.
My neighbors were like this. Im in a house not apartment but I called the police several times on them. Finally I had enough I went to the police department and filed a formal complaint now anytime someone calls on them they will get a 350.00 ticket. If management won’t do anything about it I would call the police department and see what can be done.
Call the Cops! It’s called Disturbing the Peace
I would call the police non emergency number and file a noise complaint. Record them making noise and document everything.
Call the police & have them talk to management for disturbing the peace
Depending on your state if you call the police every night and file a noise complaint the apartment by law has to do so etching about them. In NC we have noise ordinances laws from 10pm-6am I think is the times in the city.
You and the other neighbor need to continue to file complaints with management but you should also check local laws to see if there is a noise ordinance for your city/town/county. If there is, you can call the non-emergency line for your local police department.
I know in PA if you call the police enough times for a loud noise disturbance after hours like after they are allowed to be playing loud music they will force management’s hand to get the people out of the apartment because they will label the apartment a nuisance apartment. No landlord wants that no management company wants that. It may take a couple more months but that would be the way I would go about it if management isn’t doing anything right now.
Record everything and call the corporate office
File a public nuisance complaint against them. If they are disturbing everyone that lives in the building you can file that complaint through the city you live in.
Call the police and keep calling every time, then the police will notify management and they will get a fine I believe and then mgnt will or should do something about it as they have to pay
Read thru your lease to see if there’s a noise violation and start calling the police. Most apartment complexes will evict if the police are called to an apartment so many times.
Rental management company employee here you should have quiet hours listed in your lease. If excessive noise is happy during those quiet hours, they are violating their lease and should be penalized or released.
Also, make sure you’re recording all excessive noise. It’s difficult when you have noise complaints but nothing to back them up because there’s only so much that can be done without proof. So, recording everything will save you the extra hassle of trying to prove it.
If the property manager still continues to do nothing, reach out to their corporate office instead. That should get you the attention that you need.
And keep records of every complaint you file!
Good luck!
Record the shit and send it to the apartments management team
i have talked to my neighbors who lived down stairs im upstairs also old building thin walls if my neighbors that were inconsiderate after talked to them ive called the sheriff who i deal with along with the other neighbors in past ive had 2 inconsiderate neighbors also they were druggies i live in a 7 apt building also the other neighbors complained and talked to our landlord.and the problem got evicted especially after multply calls to sheriff and land lord
Call the police with noise complaints. Make a report every time and forward a copy to the management and everyone above them until they so something. Yell the other neighbor to do the same.
Too many potheads live in apartments.
Grow up and learn how to live with it or move
For real call the cops. I lived in a 4 unit and the dude knew it was us who called. But this was after complaining and talking to the guy for months. Sometimes you gotta push back hard
Look for another place to move. That’s apartment life especially when you’re not on the top floor.
If you aren’t paying their bills, mind your business. If you don’t like noise, rent a house.
Noise canceling headphones! Or you pay the neighbor above them a pretty penny to annoy them to no end at all hours of the night!
Call the cops when it’s late at night, like within the times that it would be disturbing the peace. Is there a local noise ordinance? Also, the last place I rented from, disturbing the peace was one of the conditions that could get you evicted
Leave a note on their door explaining your concerns and ask nicely if they can please keep it down as you can hear EVERYTHING downstairs. If that does not work then complain everyday to management until they do something! Also maybe suggest she does not put her heels on until she is ready to leave the house.
Are they up at 5am?? If not start waking them up by knocking on their door and when they answer say just making sure you’re alive
Call the cops each time. And your neighbors too. Management will maybe step up if they get enough complaints
I would honestly complain to management every single day. Have your neighbor do it too. But be consistent. You could also call police department for noise complaint. Idk where you are but where I live, the noise ordinance starts at I think 10pm.
Call police for noise complaints after enough calls either the police will hold them and/or the landlord accountable for each call/respond. Buy a cheap recorder and record them then leave it at their door with a bow and card “just wanted to share with you what you share with us.”
After 11 us noise complaints talk thr property manger and advise them if it keep recurring call the cops
Check your lease. It may be in violation for the company to not be keeping them in check.
Bang a broom or bat on ceiling…I’ve had to do it several times with my neighbor…
The only thing you’ll be able to do if management continues to refuse is call the police every time and file a noise complaint. I had a downstairs neighbor who would blast his TV so loud that my couch would literally vibrate. He’d wake the whole building up out of a dead sleep screaming in a drunk argument with his gf, ON THE PHONE, at 4 in the morning. Then when said gf moved in they’d wake everyone up with their in-person drunken screaming matches. But when my toddler dumped her blocks out of a bucket to play with, he lost his ever-loving mind on me.
Living in Apartment life!! Unless you have a strict landlord…with certain rules…probably going to have to deal with it! Our landlord is pretty strict! People get 3 warnings if you get 3 warnings you get 30 days…then they GONE!!! been Living in this apartment for 14 years…and let me tell ya! People have truly come and gone!
Keep complaining to management. Also check your noise ordinances. Most neighborhoods have a specific time that noise has to be down. Or you can call police to do wellfare checks because you “think” they’re physically fighting. I bet they’ll be embarrassed & pissed about being interrupted that they’ll either stop or move.
Go straight to the source one last time. Then, call police every time they’re really loud.
Call the police repeatedly!
I would continue to make complaints to management, you and the other annoyed neighbor both. They’ll eventually get fed up and do something about it.
You can’t really do much about the footsteps. When you have upstairs neighbors a certain amount of noise is par for the course but the late night loud music is very inconsiderate.
Have you tried approaching them during the day, when you’re not angry and telling them to turn down the volume, and speak with them on a friendly level?
As others have stated, you could also check your local noise ordinance laws. In some areas the person will get fined after so many complaints are made to police. Plus, having noise ordinance violations would probably force the management to do something.
Oh apartment life . Move somewhere you don’t have neighbours or get some ear plugs, or Bluetooth headphones so you can still hear your alarm. I know that complaint is coming next.
Call the cops since 1130 is past 10 pm which is what most states have an ordinance for quiet time which is usually 10 pm to 7 am. Check your states local ordinances for quiet time and call the cops seriously. If your landlord isn’t doing anything than it’s time to go above them.
Management is effectively making you live in a hostile environment. Speak to a legal aide attorney. You should be able to break your lease due to this. Especially if both of you get the same attorney.
If the noise is going on all night I would call law enforcement.i know where live we have noise ordenice. Maybe try there
You need to go over managements heads as they’re clearly useless. You need to report to the police then! They’re taking it too far, and so should you. In the uk we’d report what’s classed as noice pollution and disturbing the peace , to the council if a council rented property, so one owned by the local authorities to those on benefits or low incomes of any sort, or the police if privately owned. Log all noise and times so you can prove the consistency of disruption. Video recorded too so the volume can be heard. That way you will be able to build a case against them. Your neighbour too and any others it affects. You shouldn’t have to move from your home when it’s the others that are responsible, they should be the ones to leave if anyone has to! It will take time but you need evidence to prove before anyone can do anything
You could try a note on their door first. They won’t know which neighbor left it. Make it look like a legal document LOL.
See i had neighbors like this only my apartment we just have neighbors on the side. They would party all hrs of the night leave my side of the yard trashed and if i needed to leave i had to argue with them just to get them to move from in front of my door. Me and my petty father teamed up:rofl:…every day he would pick up the trash and leave it right in front of their door so they had to step in it. I got a dog (they were very upset about the fact they couldn’t just party in my yard now they had to watch for dog shit)And he also brought his extremely big speaker(think of like a dj setup) The speaker was the winner. Baby shark on repeat all the way up to where they wouldn’t even be able to hear anything in their apartment. I faced it against the wall and left for 24 hrs…they moved out a week later:rofl:
NAL. Maybe talk to a lawyer. See if you can make the manager pay for you lease break along with new deposit and what not to move. If the crappy manager is not going to do their job, maybe pushing for whatever you can will make the manager do something different and actually do their job. Just a thought.
Most cities have noise ordinances so call the police.
Call the cops maybe they can ask them to stop making noise after a certain time
I would say call the cops. Idk about where u live but in my town there is a noise ordinance put in place at a specific time every night. Obviously u can’t do anything about it during the day. But at night u could try to put a stop to it. Once cops get involved the management will have no choice but to get involved if it’s a constant thing the cops have to deal with.
Call the police , and keep making reports to the manager office
Callthe Policeand file a claim
Figure out when they sleep. And turn your music loud as hell.
Yeah. No one cares, unfortunately. We even called police and filed noise complaints. It did nothing. We decided to just move and purchase a home.
Stand outside. If you can still hear them, file a noise ordinance complaint with the town. If that doesn’t work, go to the owner of the building and barrage them with emails and blast them in every social media. You can also sue the owner if he or they refuse to comply
I bought a shack , its better than dealing with crowded apartments
Have you confronted them face to face or just gone through management?
I repeatedly tell my tenants to call the police…we have quiet hours from 10pm-7am…if they break those, they get a write up…3 write ups = a lease term. Your PM should be doing more…
That all you can do is call the police after 10 pm…if management won’t do anything maybe the police will…other wise move when your lease is up…or buy noise cancelling headphones that help also.
File noise complaints with law and management.
Unleash the Karen.
