My pre teen girl has been more sassy when watching youtube videos: Advice?

Does anyone else notice their preteen girl get more sassy and more on an attitude when they watch YouTube videos? My 9 yr old gets a major attitude, everyone, she is allowed to watch YouTube, and I was just wondering if any other parents have noticed this.

My 7yr old started this, she got cut off lol

It’s probably less about it being YouTube and more about what she’s watching.

We had to literally ban YouTube in our house because our 5 year old daughter would act absolutely terrible after watching anything on YouTube. She was blatantly defiant, disrespectful, and mouthy. It took about a week of actual sobbing before she turned back into our sweet little girl! I’ll be praying for you, mama!

Don’t let them watch it:woman_facepalming:t3::woman_shrugging:t3:

I limit my 10 year old because she becomes a different person when she is done on her iPad. I don’t blame the videos/YouTube alone. I think it’s just screen time in general mAkes her extra sassy. Try to limit the time on it and see if that makes a difference

Yes. Especially with this “haters back off” whiney voice Miranda girl. I’ve cut her off from that. I can actually hear the annoying tone of voice in her when she’s just talking to me in general and it irks me to the coooorrreeeee

Take her devices away that she views the videos on. Problem solved.

Yes and same with boys too. We been banning them in our home but our local schools allow the kids to watch during down times so it has been hard to stay consistent when the schools refuse to stop allowing it

Well it depends what and who they are watching… they are easily influenced …

Yes, banned YouTube!

Ban it or give her a time limit like one hour a day.

Take her stinkin’ phone away!

Screen time of any kind can be a detrement to behavior and attitude. Thats why Steve Jobs didnt give them to his kids.

Plenty of studies out there

It’s not about youtube itself, rather what she’s watching. Moniter what she’s watching.

I am sorry to be blunt but is this a real question? If something is a problem, as a parent, dont we remove it? Its called parenting. I feel like my grandma when I say this…but this is part of what is wrong with the world today. Kids need supervision and direction. If they didnt, they wouldnt need us.

Youtube is not allowed in our house until 12 years old and still with supervision

Wow… this a tough one… a kid gets sassy when watching youTube… hmmm… what to do??? Stop allowing her to watch it?? No… let’s make a dumbass facebook post! That will solve it!!! :woman_facepalming:

Screen time is a treat🤷🏻‍♀️ my daughter is younger but was the same way when we were living with my dad bc he would let her on his phone all the time but now she asks me first if it’s okay and is really good about it if it’s time to put it up

I restrict my daughter’s YouTube (shes 8) I do believe that it does play a part but it is also normal behavior at that age unfortunately

My 9 year old more sass when watching YT. So he isn’t allowed to watch some channels and not allowed to watch anything Sun-Thurs. Helps his behaviors at school.

My 6 year old is like this lol

Teenage boy mom here and yes definitely had attitudes after watching videos or using any form of social media. He’s been without for almost a month and things have definitely improved with his attitude and his willingness to just pop off at me and his dad.

Take it away if u dont like it

Mine too. There’s an article about it in psychology today. I’ve taken all internet away until further notice and both my kids are doing sooo much better

My son is almost 5 and I deleted YouTube a long time ago and he didn’t have it much anyways. He’s allowed to watch cartoons on prime, spectrum app and Netflix if it’s G rated because I put a parental block on it. Talk to your daughter about the behavior but definitely delete the app now. Likely I think someone she looks up to on YouTube acts that way. Girls are very impressionable and it’s important.

We don’t allow YouTube. Even kids YouTube because of some of the content that could be seen. My 10 year old son does get attitude when he games. So I started cutting him back on his game time. A lot.

My son used to watch a show when he was 4 called Horrid Henry, he started acting like him. I took away the show and his attitude changed. Take it away, tell her she isnt allowed if she cant control herself.

Yes. Our kids get that way… ages 10, 11 & 13… it’s crazy how their demeanor changes with Ipad, phone breaks. They play better together, don’t back y’all as much and are less aggressive. Imo

Yup and it gets worse as a teenager

They are all the Same. It’s hormones mainly but I’d restrict the time on YouTube and make sure to check on what’s being watched. Tic tok is another pain in the ass

Yup. When the attitude starts, the phone stops

Limit when she can be on technology. Also sit down and watch what she watches. Some parents find that the reason their kids have an attitude is because of what their kids are watching on YouTube.

Yes both my bonus children 7 girl and 11 boy also depends which songs they hear too

Wonder what the previous generations blamed for normal behaviors  lol

Good luck tbh. Taking it completely away will cause more drama and unfortunately lead to sneakiness. Try to find some boundaries.

My daughter started to have attitude… she lost all social media. Only allowed her phone whilst she is at school. And I also enlisted her to navy cadets. She has quickly turned that attitude around!

We also deleted YouTube in my house. Kids are 9 and 11

Why do you allow YouTube?

Well until she can control her attitude no more YouTube.

My daughter isn’t allowed to watch YouTube bc she does act out more when she does. It’s almost like watching other kids do it to their parents makes her think it’s okay. So we just took it away at both my house and her fathers. She also gets grounded when she acts out.

My husband was saying he noticed our 9 year old does the same thing. I didn’t believe I jus thought the kid was jus a become at the age of big fat attitude. I might believe him now seeing someone else has noticed that with their kid haha

My almost 8 year old was. YouTube is banned from my house now :woman_shrugging:t3: easy solution. She was mad at first but she is doing much better now lol

:unamused: yea cause it’s for sure those YouTube videos and not her just going through puberty

Yes sassy as all can be. My 10 and 12 year olds battle it out for sassy tik toking evil little attiudey brats!

YouTube is only allowed on weekends and they have to watch it on the living room tv so I can monitor.
Try introducing wholesome family content, education or activities. My 9 yr old daughter loves “That YouTube Family” and my 7 yr old son loves watching drawing tutorials and drawing along. They both like watching space and natural disaster videos, and Go Noodle is a good for when they need to get their energy out but cant go outside.
Mr. Rogers Neighborhood,
The Crocodile Hunter,
The Big Comfy Couch,
Lamb Chops Play Along
Reading Rainbow
Alllll on YouTube and all educational!
You dont have to completely ban youtube, you just have to set boundaries and take control of the content.
(I’ll admit some of these older shows took an episode or two to get them interested, but now they love them! )
Bill Nye, the Science Guy and The Magic School Bus are on YouTube too, but they’re also on Netflix so we dont watch them on YouTube.

Lol it has nothing to do with YouTube

So no more YouTube… Problem solved

Kids you tube
Or Netflix

Yup but with my son, idk why.

Yes. Please pay attention to the videos that she’s watching and actually sit down and watch a few of them all the way through because many of them have subliminal messaging. I noticed a change in my oldest daughter’s personality. She’s 11. When I asked you watch one of the videos all the way through I was shocked at some of the imagery they had in a kids video.

If you think 9 is sassy… wait till she hits 16… and it has zero to do with you tube lol

Hell yes so i put a stop to her watching it until she can learn a bit more respect

My 3 year old becomes the biggest jerk if I let him watch Ryan the YouTube kid

My 7 year old has got a sassy attitude through watching YouTube vloggers videos. Also developed an American accent with it. When she is Scottish

Nahhh, has NOTHING to do with her age

We don’t allow our kids on you tube unless we are watching funny music videos… but on their own? Never

So. My one year old gets an attitude if he watches like 3 episodes. It’s electronics in general. My little brother was that way with video games really bad. I notice I’m that way myself with my phone.

attitudes and such are because of an addiction with internet. My 12 year old is addicted and in therapy. She is limited to 1 hour a day in 30 min increments.

Don’t allow it to continue then…?

If you know the issues and why it’s happening, why wouldn’t you just delete YouTube? She’s obviously not ready for it. It’s a privilege, not a right.

Monitor what the kid is watching better. Even better- don’t let her on it at all.

My son… whenever he watched peppa pig, he started talking differently… like with and attitude and arguing like she always does… needless to say, we don’t watch it anymore…

What is she watching? I have parental controls & block anything that seems to be a problem.

Yep I cut her off theses pitcular youtubers

My 5 year old does this …I took it away … again… last time it was for 6 months this time she probably wont get a tablet back lol I hate them anyway

My daughter keeps getting her YouTube privileges taken away because of her attitude when she watches it.
