My toddler will not drink anything other than milk

Okay Mamas I really need some help here. My 19 month old will not drink anything other than milk. It’s a real problem. He’s been having diarrhea really bad since Tuesday from getting over the norovirus & now being on an antibiotic for ear infection…. I switched from whole milk to 1% thinking maybe it might help & last night I started a probiotic and whatever, doing all the things the doctor told me to… Also been on a BRAT diet and all that but that’s not really the issue I guess the issue is I have tried giving him everything else other than milk and he literally will just throw the cup or will scream more like SCREECH until he gets milk. It’s really REALLY getting to me. Im a single mom and I really truly am lost here. I also have neighbors in my apartment building that i know for sure dont want to hear a screaming toddler on full blast Doing this alone has been the most difficult thing nevermind having a sick child with it… help please!

My son went through a milk phase, sunny d phase and Gatorade phase. The milk he still is is go to especially when he doesn’t feel good because he says it feels good on his throat and his tummy (he is 11 and autistic with sensory). But sunny d doesn’t hurt but I would also do 50/50 and have water

Try flavored water or toddlers V8 drinks. Tell him he has to drink one cup of something else before he can have the milk. Also maybe try giving him 7up

Diarrhea cure my mom and I always used on babies and adults. Get blackberries fresh or frozen, cook them down till juicy. Strain and add small amount of sugar. Spoon feed several times a day.

Don’t give into him every time he wants milk. He will eventually drink what you give him he that’s all he has to drink. And he knows if he screams enough he will get milk.

Try popsicles, they will at the very least get a bit of clear liquids. I have 4 children and it’s worked every time. Let him eat as many as he wants, he will think it’s the best and will help him tremendously

Sherbet ice cream is non dairy, or slushies, ice pops, basically anything that’s liquid that doesn’t have dairy. If you can get him to consume it to keep him hydrated, it’s a win. While milk may not usually give him diarrhea, with a GI virus it can cause extra irritation so you may have to avoid it for an extra day or two. You could also try almond or oat milk just to give him that “milk” fix he so badly wants without the dairy irritation

Did the doctor say it was due to milk? I’d assume the diarrhea was caused by his virus and antibiotics. I’d continue the milk, especially to keep him as hydrated as possible unless you’ve specifically been told he has a milk allergy. Diarehea can intensify dehydration which is usually more dangerous than a virus.

Please don’t stress yourself. Talk to the doctor’s office . Go with whatever your doctor says. But you know your child better than anyone. Go with your gut. You got this. Kids don’t come with instructions. :blue_heart:

My oldest had oral aversion took us like 50 kinds of juice until we found one he would drink. Which was this one it’s not too sweet and he drank that half water half juice for the longest time. That and milk was it.

Also have you tried those character juices ?

Blueberries help with diarrhea!!!
My husband’s grandmother thought me that when my kids were small and I needed advice. I swear by it now.

Try the hydration ice blocks. Maybe he’ll take to those? I’d try ice, water and fruit slushies. He might gain a taste for things in another form and go from there.
Otherwise, you’ll just have to say no, you can have milk after xyz and deal with what comes next til he tries other things

If you know for sure it’s the milk giving him diarrhea then try to stop, but if it’s not, I wouldn’t stop it. He’s drinking staying hydrated and it sounds like a comfort drink. I mean you know your child best, so go with your gut.
