I want to put my 11 month old into daycare. My husband isn’t comfortable with it for a few reasons. Mainly Covid. If he does go it’ll be part time and it probably won’t be until March. For those who have kids in daycare in the middle of a pandemic. Any advice?
They will pick up everything at day care. It’s Germ infested place
My child has been in daycare since he was 1 and continued through the pandemic. I also worked in a daycare. The only difference really now is parents can’t enter the centre and extra cleaning is done, as well as separating cohorts better now. I think its a great idea. It’s good to get them socialized with other children and used to a class setting my child has thrived.
Same thing as kids going to school, would he not want them to go ?!
My son had been going since July of 2020 when he was 8 weeks only. Since then we’ve only had 2 instances when daycare shut down completely due to covid issues and that was August of 2021 and Jan of 2022… I never felt unsafe sending him either
Covid is the last of ur worries at daycare…be prepared for all the fun stuff they bring home sometimes weekly. My daughter has gone since she was 6 weeks old and is now 3, never picked up covid from daycare(multiple exposures by more than one person in her class and multiple complete shut downs) but we are all sick with something at least every 2 to 3 weeks. Just how it goes with kids in daycare/school. I’m also a pediatric nurse that works with severely immune compromised kids, so im a stickler for being super careful. Once they leave the germ bubble of home, it’s inevitable that they will pick up everything “going around”. But my daughter completely thrives in daycare/preschool and needs to be social so it all evens itself out in the end
Not all daycares are bad. I’ve worked at several and being a single mom my kids have been in daycare since 6 weeks old until head start at age three.
Nothing wrong with it. Just be prepared for ALL the sicknesses. Once you nurse them back to health you come down with it. Fun times!
My daughter lost the private sitter (in a home of) provider last year in May (a friend -we love the family)…my Grandson has been sick Every Month since then! He had to go to a daycare
Croup/Covid/pinkeye/hand foot and mouth/ear infection!
It is absolutely heartbreaking!!! She has to work…yes both do. Her husband has a fulltime job as well.
One thing I would say as a Preschool teacher is really look into the school before you pick it. Check their records online to see what violations they have and I would look into how high their turnover rate is for teachers. You don’t want a new teacher for your child every month or so. Your child will bring home multiple viruses probably once a month at first, but as they get older it will stop. Daycare is amazing for children in the right setting. So many of the kids in my class have made long lasting friendships, and really enjoy coming to school everyday!
I am so glad and thankful that I have not had to send my daughter to daycare; I’ve been lucky enough to have my sister watch her since I went back to work. Not saying that anything is wrong with daycare, but I would just rather have the peace of mind knowing she is safe and in good hands! And I have definitely dogged all the sickness if she had been going to daycare.
Be prepared for you child to stay sick for 2 months. Personally I feel like daycare should be avoided if can be, until a child is older and can tell you what happens there anyway.
I’d look for a babysitter that has just a couple kids
My daughter has been in daycare since she was 16 weeks old, she’s 6 now. She went all through the pandemic-they shut down for 2 works for extra cleaning, teachers were sick. She was exposed and never got it. She did bring other fun germs home. Her immune system is amazing now, she hardly ever gets sick. I was hesitant at first. I’m grateful now. Not only did she learn educational stuff, she learned how to interact with kids her age and how to listen to a teacher. Social interaction is extremely important.
I run a small in-home daycare, and unfortunately, kids do get sick. I try everything in my willpower to keep things clean; however, I cannot clean the air or other children. We all do our best to communicate with one another. We haven’t had any crazy issues other than normal common colds and the stomach bug. I would recommend looking for a smaller childcare. Just be aware that kids get sick. That’s how they build immunity to other illnesses.
My grandson contacted foot and mouth disease twice in Daycare. So
Make sure the place is clean and check out the other kids there
Your child will get sick. And filthy. Your child will come home covered in unrecognizable substances. All of this will occur for at least the entire first year. If they make it through that, your child will have a kick ass immune system and healthy social skills. Lol it’s not so bad.
My gson been in day care, off n on since he was 18 mths old, he’s gotten hand foot mouth twice, flu day care had to close 3 times few kids had Covid, he just turned 2, i worry about him being there,
Im very covid safe too i def understand that. Some kids arent as good at socializing if they dont start young so just consider that. Some kids are fine without too. You know whats best for your child. I pulled mine out of high school for covid tho
No matter how clean or nice a daycare is you cannot control the parents that bring their kids in. That said some will bring sick kids medicated and leave them (it happens A LOT) all you can do is hope the daycare has good hygiene practices and can catch onto sick kids before they spread too much and it seems (especially in fall and winter seasons) no matter how diligent kids get sick multiple times a month at daycares.
My older kids got covid at school in early 2020. They got sick a lot going to school but once I started home schooling and took the little ones out of daycare …RARELY sick at all.
I wouldn’t risk it myself. Not worth it IMO
My son is 4 and had been going daily since he was 6 weeks. They do extra cleaning now. He really has learned alot he can read small words, write a sentence does great at sharing and talks non stop about his friends
They’re more likely to get sick easily being around all the different people. Mine started a out 2 months ago and I was having to call out of work a little the first month for fevers and vomiting. No covid. Nothing diagnosable. Just rest and fluid recommendations. Oh and an ear infection, which isn’t contagious. But when I had my older children in daycare before they got everything like bronchitis, strep throat, hand foot mouth, you name it they got it. This is pre covid.
