Needing advice from moms

I need advice from all moms that meal prep. I am getting a promotion at work that starts next week, which means I will be working later. I usually cook dinner when I get home around 3:30, but now I will be working til 6. My husband isn’t really a “cook”

Crockpot meals or make meals your husband can put in the oven. Remember to do very detailed directions too.

When I used to work late the crockpot was my best friend. And your Husband is going to have to learn. Cooking isn’t hard and he doesn’t have to make anything fancy. Can he BBQ?

There’s no reason why hubby can’t learn how to make a few things. Its not a natural talent lol its learned.
That aside, slow cookers are great and if you meal plan for the week you can also cook/freeze or prepare everything to cut down your cooking time when you do get in the door.

I’m a single mom with 3 girls… I make out a monthly menu and put it on the frig… I do a lot of crockpot and instant pot cooking… with the menu… my girls know what we are having and can start peeling potatoes or whatever till I get home! I always write on the calendar whether it is a meal that I will cook when I get home or if it is a crock pot meal… if crock pot… we will generally work together after dinner putting it together… then I put in frig and pull it out and start it in the morning before I leave for work! It works out pretty well… cuts down on the decision making of what we are going to have… there are also a lot of freezer meals online that you can prep and freeze… hubby can surely make one of those… or thaw it the day before… place in crock pot and you are good to go!

I grocery shop on Saturday’s and meal prep on Sunday. I make enough on Sunday to last the week. (Monday-Friday). All that has to be done is warm it back up. Disposable pans make it easier and less clean up at run end of the week too.

I hate cooking but I have to cook all of my meals on Sunday. Yes we eat the leftovers. I prepare weekly what I’m going to make…l I go to the store on Friday night or Saturday.

Crockpot whatever you can. And make it the night before. For instance make chili in the crockpot at night and refrigerate it. Plug it in before you go. Make casseroles that your hubs can put in the oven. When I was working and hubs wasn’t I would pan everything and he would have it ready when I got home.

Can you cook one night ahead for the kids and serve up last nights leftovers while you start dinner for tonight, keeping extra for them for tomorrow?

I do a lot of crockpot meals or ill prep everything in the morning before work so that when my kids get home they just take it from the fridge and put it in the oven and everything is done when i get out at 6. Like tonight, we’re having baked chicken, mashed potatoes and a vegetable. The chicken is in the baking dish and seasoned. Potatoes are peeled and sitting in a pot of water on the stove. And we’ll pop the steamer bag of veggies into the microwave as we’re finishing off the rest of dinner. The kids will put the chicken in the oven around 515 and start boiling the potatoes around 530. I’ll finish it off when i come in at 6, and we’re eating by 615/630

I shop monthly. When I do I chop all my onions, bell peppers, celery things of that nature & cut my meats how I’m going to cook them like round steak into thin strip for fajitas or round steak n gravy. That way most of my prep work is done. The crockpot needs to be your best friend, especially if hubby gets home earlier then you n can check it

How old is your child? I started cooking dinner when I was about 13 because my didn’t get home until about 6. Also, go shopping with husband and let him decide on dinner for the week.
