C section Mama’s, please give me the great, the good, the bad and the ugly. I am scheduling one this pregnancy due to some medical issues with the baby and I am petrified.
I heard scheduling is better I had an emergency. It just hurts a lot after, seemed like it took me forever to feel like myself
I had 3 and breast fed … It wasn’t bad
So much easier then naturals for me.
Hurts pretty bad on recovery compared to natural birth. Also horrible uncontrollable body shakes during the surgery and a little bit after.
I’ve had natural no meds, natural with an epidural, emergency csection, and a csection while awake and I would never want to do the csection being awake again.
Planned csections are awesome and very chill. Pain after is mid but you get endone for when you go home. Highly Recommend.
I’ve had both emergency and planned c-section. The planned one was amazing. It was so relaxed we just showed up at 6am and baby was earth side by 8:45. I highly recommend moving around as soon as you can and keep moving! The more you move the better you feel. The healing process can be rough for the first week but I resumed almost back to normal within a couple weeks. You will do great!
Pros:
- Planned csections are relaxed. - - You can ask to listen to certain music during.
- You can ask a midwife to take pics for you.
- It’s over and done pretty quickly.
Cons:
- Recovery can be quite sore but honestly not too bad imo. (My second cesarean recovery was harder than my first)
- You can vomit from the meds before the procedure starts.
- The adrenaline shakes.
- If baby needs to go straight to NICU you don’t get to hold them during recovery (but dad/birth partner can go with them to the NICU)
- The feeling when they are reaching in and getting the baby out (not painful just makes me squirm ish)
- milk takes a little longer to come in if you plan on breastfeeding but some people successfully collect colostrum before birth (I tried but was unsuccessful)
Had 3 scheduled. Wasn’t too bad. The staples sucked for sure. And more pain the more I had. Was done after my 3rd child.
It’ll be fine! You won’t have an episiotomy that way!! I had an emergency C section and that wasn’t fun but only because of what happened BEFORE it . You’ll be great!
I had my schedules c section 4 months ago. It was great! Zero pain. Not even felt the needle in my back for the anesthesia. My first C-section was an emergency c section and it wasn’t bad either. I felt very lucky that giving birth to my 2 babies was so easy, and painless. The recovery is a little bit difficult the first 24 hours, but when I was home I was fine and walking. My best advice, walk as soon as you can. Try to walk as straight as you can. And always put pressure in your incision . Frida mom c section belt was such an amazing help.
You will sign in… Then go up to your room and change and wait until they come get you…
You’ll go downstairs and wait some more while they prep the operating room.
They’ll bring you into the operating room but hubby has to wait outside while they prep you. Youll get your epidural and theyll lay you down… eventually your hubby will come in and thats when they start.
I was nauseous and threw up cuz of the epidural ( its normal ) they gave me something to fight the nausea. And soon enough you’ll hear the babys first cry. They show you the baby, get baby cleaned off and set baby on you for skin on skin (it’s possible you won’t be able to hold baby cuz you’re too numb so dad will hold the baby ) they stitch you back up and then set you off to the recovery room until you get the feeling back in your legs.
Once you get feeling in your legs they send you to your room. Every two or three hours nurses will come in and check on you… Press down on your tummy to make sure there’s no blood clots etc (this fking hurts… I almost punched out a nurse because she was hurting me) other than that it’s not too bad… I’ve had two c sections… first was emergency and second was planned. Planned is so much smoother!! I was released from the hospital after 36hrs. Healing time was a joke I was up and about all fine and dandy within the first week.
My two were a breeze. I never wanted to push a baby through my vagina. No pain meds needed. Went shopping in my way home.
I’ve had 2 c sections. Make sure to get up and moving as soon as the nurses will let you. It really helps. I’m not going to sugar coat this… wiping your bum will be a pain. Literally. For the few days or so.
I’ve had 3.
They are hard, but best advice is to get up and walk as soon as possible. It will help you with recovery, swelling, and gas. (Which for me, was the worst part, and most painful part)
Good luck, don’t over think, or stress about it.
Checking in for a c section at the hospital is very similar to checking into a hotel.
I have had 3 Caesarians and 2 vaginal deliveries…without a doubt, the old fashioned birth is the way to go!
No ritual disembowlment, scheduled or otherwise; no threat of Sepsis; no possible nicked Bowel during the operation; no post-operative narcotics for pain, which are transmissable through breast milk; no possible injuries to Baby during the surgery; no prolonged healing post op; no effing staples in my inscision because the doc was in too much of a hurry to do a better closing; no post-op infection around said staples; pain while breastfeeding because the baby was right over my inscision site; et cetera.
While I am grateful that our babies are all accounted for, with all their parts working, I still regret those surgical interventions that I had to endure.
Vaginal deliveries were uncomfortable as hell, but they were OVER when they were over. The C-sections were they crappy gifts that kept on giving.
I had 3 now. Walk as soon as you can and take small walks around the halls it really helps a lot. Gets rid of the gas pain in chest too. Do anything to increase milk if you plan to breastfeed my milk always came in late so I gave up on breastfeeding. Put a small pillow over your c-section when you cough, sneeze or laugh. It helps with the pain. My emergency c-section was horrible pain but my other 2 planned ones were way easier and not so painful
