Potty training advice for boys

Good morning, so I started trying to potty training my son 2 weeks ago. I put underwear on in the morning. He still doesn’t want to use the potty. He knows that when he pees or poops I will wash him. Now when he goes in his underwear he will take them off near the bathroom and get the wash cloth to try and wash himself,He will be 3 in April. Any tips will be greatly appreciated

Have an older boy show him
Someone he looks up to. Worked for me

I had my son “water the grass”. He was way too excited to do that

My son does that. He likes cleaning it up and just peeing on the floor and in his pants. :woman_facepalming:t3: I’m trying new things myself for him to just go on the toilet because to me he is fully trained he just does this on purpose now

My son is almost 3 I got him a cocomelon potty… he hated it at first until he seen u can take out the potty part… he thought it was cool when he realised he peed in there, mum goes tips it into the toilet. So now he pees in there’s an takes it out an tips it in the toilet himself after being super proud that his done a pee! Cos he can carry it.

Have u tried just having no jocks on for a bit of outside play … I found thats more when he realised I guess the sensation and seen what was happening cos he could see it… Then I would tell him pull his jocks down and to sit on the potty an he got the hang of it… still haven’t worked out doing number 2s in the potty yet. He seems to usually wait until I put a fresh nappy on him at night for bed haha.

Just because he’ll be 3 in a few months doesn’t mean he’s ready

In the the old days I had my 9 children potty trained by 16 months! I just sat them on the potty, read and talked to them! (About 5_6 months! ) consistently! They got used to it! I taught them how to flush and big hugs for results! As time went on they let me know, they had to go! No spankings, no criticism! No embarrassing child! I trained all my children like this! And several other children and grandchildren. Just tell them how good they are doing!! Its time, consumming yet, worked! My oldest son loved to go potty when we traveled! He thought he was such a big boy and cool that there were potties all over! Its all in the attitude we have! We now live in a time, of no time, hurry, shame, stupid!! These little ones are so highly intelligent! A little praise goes along way and reward for a job well done!

Boys can be very difficult, and take a long time , after you get him to pee in potty, it will probably be awhile before he poops, it’s a boy thing lol

Does he have a male figure that he could go with? Learned that my son does better with his daddy than he does me. He will be 3 in May

My grandson was just not interested until he was 4 but was wearing pull ups. I didn’t want to push the potty and chance him having issues about using it. He decided to use the potty one day (literally only one day), and never looked back. He wanted to use the big boy toilet after that. No accidents, day or night  Every kiddo is different.

For my sons, we used cheerios in the toilet for them to aim at since they were willing to use the toilet but not the potty. Maybe your little guy would prefer the toilet too :grinning:
