Pros and cons of having your tubes removed?

Anyone ever had their tubes removed? Any pros or cons? Advice? Is it a day surgery? Does it leave a bad scar? Do you hurt for days after? I have a physical tomorrow and I am planning on talking to my doctor about it. I am 43 and I feel like it’s the best thing so that I can quit taking birth control. I know that in a few years menopause will hit me but it will make me feel better knowing that when that time comes I will be going through menopause and not pregnant.lol thank you all!

I had to do this for my father on occasion, on a gas stove!

I’m 32, had mine taken out last year. My period is a lot heavier. Messed with my hormones.

I had my tubes tied, not removed. No pain no scars, no babies.

I got mine taken out after having a baby almost a year ago. My husband blew his back out the same day I went into labor and was on the ground for 2 weeks. So with a newborn a broken husband I was able to take care of all of it. I was lucky and got to watch mine get taken out which was pretty cool. I have a small scar under my belly button. I would say it took 2 weeks to be pretty much fully healed. I went back to work after two weeks as well. Us women are resilient! I swear we can do anything lol

Birth control was never a good option for me. And ovarian cancer runs in my family so having my tubes removed was something I begged doctors for since my daughter was born. It took years for them to agree and I’m so glad I did it. I do have 2 small scars on my stomach, but I’ve heard people say that they don’t even have to do that anymore. It’s something I would recommend to a friend!

Everyone is different of course but I had mine done almost 30 years ago and I never regretted it. My only issue was it. Really messed with my hormones and they wanted me to continue taking pill!!! I told him if I had known that I would have just continued on without surgery. I have tiny scar almost in my belly button. If you wear low cut pants wear them for a while so you can heal better without pants rubbing.

I had mine removed with my last c section.my periods were rly heavy post, so I had to be placed on. a birth control to stop them.

Don’t do it. I had mine out 6 years ago. My periods were horrible afterwards, so much so I just had to get an iud.

I got a hysterectomy and 37. I am 41 known as the best thing I’ve ever done.

I got mine done laproscopically like 7 years ago. Very quick procedure and I was back at work as a carpenter a couple days later. I haven’t had any weird symptoms or more babies. 10/10 would definitely recommend

Best thing I ever had done. My periods are shorter, more regular, and not to mention the freebie sex. My husband could look at me and I’d get pregnant :grinning:

I had mine removed, one due to ectopic pregnancy and the other two years ago due to my birth control causing cysts on my ovaries. They did it laparoscopically (the second one) and it was a quick outpatient surgery. I was pretty sore for a few days, but back to work in about 3 days. It ended up causing my periods to become extremely heavy, so I was left with either having a hysterectomy or uterine thermal ablation. I chose the latter of the two. My cycle went from 1 1/2 to 2 weeks of heavy bleeding down to 3 days of almost nonexistent period.

I had mine removed. They make you wait like 30days Incase you change your mind. Recovery is pretty easy. My periods have been a lot heavier since removing them though.

Have them tied. It’s way less invasive. I had it done 12/76. It can usually be done via a laparoscopy.

I had mine removed at 30. Outpatient surgery and took a day off from work. My period which was 4 days a moderate to light to begin with didn’t change. Good luck and good healing to you.

I had mine removed last year due to numerous abnormal Pap smears and a history of cancer, I’m 38 since having them removed periods have been heavier and emotions are all over the place when I have my period. Day surgery I had to take a week of work, have 2 small scars

I plan to beg my doctor for a full hysterectomy after kids because I have been on fertility treatments for almost 6 years total and I have other issues that make my risk of cancer higher. Most of them start in the tubes so there’s another benefit to it.

Biggest problem is gas after surgery. The surgery can be done through the belly button. No scar. Can’t or shouldn’t lift anything for 6 weeks to reduce chance for internal bleeding. It’s really not bad. Just sore for a few days.

If your doc suggests an endometrial ablation (to help with heavy periods) with the tubal, please research post tubal ligation ablation syndrome. A large percentage of women end up having to have a hysterectomy.

Had all but my ovaries removed. I was in and out within 7 hours. Had it done laparoscopically. Rough first two weeks, the last four weeks I started feeling better each day. This was my first surgery ever and I was nervous. But all went well, my scars are tiny, and will likely fade over time (I’m only 5 months post op)

Please look into tubal ligation syndrome. It’s absolutely underreported and cannot be reversed.

I got mine with my second c section and ended up pushing myself too much with stairs so I ended up being in a lot of pain until I took an easy. I have zero regrets and it’s been 6yrs. I will say I definitely get moody(more just zero patience for the stuff I deal with on a day to day like my kids not cleaning up after themselves really pisses me off lol) before my period and it’s heavy with bad cramps the first 2 days of it. I usually take 600-800mg of Motrin to help with the cramps and it works.
I was able to have it go through insurance as a birth control prevention so I was happy about that. My doctor did tell me about the heavy periods and how she has had women go back to her and get an IUD due to the cramps/periods. Personally, IUDs weird me out for whatever reason so I won’t get one.
Good luck!

I had tubal ligation during c-section with my youngest. No issues afterwards, no extra bleeding. All good.

Minimal scarring. Just a couple 1inch or smaller incisions and they use a scope to see everything instead of opening you up. I was just a little crampy for a few days. But nothing horrible. Just a couple day down time…

I had my cut. They go thru your belly button. I was home in afew hours. The next day I was sore, like a whole body ran a marathon sore, but after that I was good. My belly button incision was irritated by my pants for a few days. I haven’t had a issues, infact my periods are barely 2 days now.
I had mine done on a Thursday and was back to work Monday. My job was pretty physical and I was fine.

I recently had ovaries and tubes removed two little scares top and bottom belly button no pain so now I going threw early menopause been on tablets a while but just Started to feel hot flushes sweats so maybe need to change tablets

Ive been looking at maybe having mine removed or tied, but have been told the periods after are horrible expecially with tubes being tied. I wish more doctors would just got ahead andjust get it over with and do hystorectomys.

Had my ovaries and tunes removed.out patient and no laperscopic
