I want to move. What are the pros and cons for states yall have been to because I have not been anywhere
What kind of weather do you like ??? Start there.
Skip NY.I despise it here.I lived in NC and loved it.I only moved back bc my mom had a heart attack.NC is beautiful.Nice weather.Friendly.I lived in KY for 6 months and was miserable.
Love my home state ! Alabama! Pros - churches , southern hospitality, great food , dear friends , sweet lemonade and ice tea , great manners ! Cons - the HEAT in the summer !!! Hate that ! Some tornadoes but I have never seen one - although I am scared of them .
Where are the jobs you want to have? I suggest trips to various places and talking to a variety of locals to know what to expect.
It’s all about trade-offs. Nice weather or low cost of living but low salaries. Beautiful surroundings but long commutes. Lots of things to do and places to see but horrendous traffic. Bucolic towns but single employer. Good overall but with policies and politics you oppose. Great schools but high taxes. Great jobs but MBAs required. Great outdoor activities but lots of snow in winter.
List your likes and dislikes and your absolute musts and find what fits. Or join the military, aid organizations or other group that sends you around the world and you won’t have to decide!
So many factors in this type of decision:
- are you political and if so then does that effect your decision? Look into the states that have your view point, it’s very important.
- what type of schools are you wanting? Good private or good public? Homeschool?
- weather is important. Think humidity vs -30°
- animals that come with the territory. Snakes and spiders in the south vs north are vastly different.
- jobs… many states have specific booming jobs others don’t have.
- affordability. A $300,000 house in Arkansas isn’t going to be the same as one in California.
I would start vacationing before moving
Well I have lived in California ( born and raised), Florida which was only 5 years ( I can’t stand the heat). And now Pennsylvania and I love it here!.
I live in Michigan. Beautiful summers & fall. Sometimes gnarly winters especially northern Michigan.
This time of year you might get all 4 seasons in one day
Florida is too humid & peoplely. Lol. Also pricey. I love visiting my uncle in Louisiana and Arkansas is beautiful in the hills. Not little Rock! No big cities! Go to the little towns. I can’t remember the name of the town we were in but we spent a week in a cabin. Beautiful. I have a picture I’ll attach with this post. I liked Tulsa OK, but no where else in Oklahoma.
