Question for breastfeeding mothers?

Question for you breastfeeding mamas. What do you do when your little one gets hungry out in public like at a park or grocery shopping? This is my first time breastfeeding and I’m pretty modest so I don’t wanna just whip it out with a bunch of strangers around but living in Texas, using a cover can get so hot for my baby. Any suggestions?

Honestly I just try to have an oversized shirt on so I can just put baby under the shirt…. Works great when they get older especially (my 18 month old still nurses)

I try to bring some pumped milk in a bottle, (fresh usually, that way I don’t have to worry about figuring out how to warm it). Also, feed them go to the store immediately after helps, at least for me, but not always 100% fool proof.

They have covers that go over your shoulders. But I usually just fed wherever but kept it modest. Or the two shirt method works.

I only do grocery pick up or delivery and either pump and take that bottle to go or use a cover. But we don’t deal with extreme heat.

just feed the kid nobody cares

I grab my hooter hider and shield anyone from being able to see little buddy feeding OR I just go to my car, get that AC cracked and have my whole space to myself.

Get a nursing top or scarf. Then you’re still modest

I whip it out and feed. My babies hunger is more important than judgy people.

I wear oversized shirt or just flip it out!! Or try to feed before you go in to the store. I agree with Jennifer comment especially when they get older oversized tshirt works best.

Ummm? Would you like to have lunch with your head covered? Would you like to eat lunch in the bathroom? If you answered no to any of these questions neither does your kid. Fuck what people think about breast-feeding and just do it.

Can you use a lighter cover with some air holes? Maybe linen?

The 2 shirt method. Layer a shirt over a low rise tank top. No one sees a thing.

But for the record, if anyone has a problem with a nursing mom and baby that’s their issue, not yours.

I feed my baby. You aren’t nearly as exposed as you feel. For grocery stores I feed before going in

I always feel the baby in the car in the parking lot before going into the store. Boob with a diaper change in the car and the baby’s were good inside the store

I always just hopped in my car if I could. I never really felt comfortable breastfeeding in public myself so I’d arrange my day around her feelings

Oversized shirt works fantastic you put your baby in your shirt and nobody knows

Try a nursing top? It makes it so your boob is not even out. I would also try to nurse before I went in the store while sitting in the car. My baby was too heavy to be walking about the store shopping and nursing lol.

just do it. ignore people. it’s literally your babies food and should only be seen as such.

If you’re not willing to feed your baby when they’re hungry don’t have one

A spaghetti top you can pull your breast out from the top.
Paired with larger over shirt

Pull top shirt up, pull out breast from top of spaghetti nursing top. Less exposed skin. Can use the top shirt as a light cover

You can discreetly pull your top up in public. Practice at home so you will feel more comfortable. Understand the covers can be hot. Try using a cloth diaper or a receiving blanket. That is what us older moms used before they had the covers.

With my first I was very nervous to do as judging eyes were everywhere. I would often go to car and just hoped no one seen me, used cover etc. with my second I just don’t have the time to care! I whip it out but still use cover occasionally. I have gotten the judging eyes but I stare back. I mean it’s literally feed her or listen to her scream so:woman_shrugging:t3::woman_shrugging:t3:

i always wore a tank top with a bigger t shirt so if i did have to, it wouldnt be terribly noticeable.

I used to wear breast-feeding tops and vests which only reveal a tiny fraction of your breast for feeding if you wear a nursing bra. And what gets revealed is covered by the baby’s head. The tops have pull-down sections so it just looks like a v-neck with a vest underneath. Or a regular vest top will do if it’s stretchy enough. You can also get BabyBjorn carriers where your baby can feed whilst you carry it and it’s all covered by the carrier.
