I’m in a safety car seat group and you are not to wash the pads that come with the car seat due to washing out the fire retardant that’s on them!!!

Why not just provide new ones for your nieces? Unless you think there is additional danger in the home, be a good aunt and get them some new ones instead of causing a huge family conflict.

Talk to your local police and fire department bc where I live they donate carseats to families that need them. The childrens hospital here also has a carseat program maybe check with the hospitals. I live in Arkansas. Hope this helps.
If your an aunt to them than “the parent” is related to you which should mean you would be helping them and not reporting them but since you have stated it the way you did i could only assume you dont like “the parents” so maybe ask your dad and see if anythings tried to be done about it

My first thought would never be to turn a family member in over carseats. In fact, I have literally given my niece 3 carseats now for my great nephew because my $ situation was better than hers.

Are they struggling to get by? If it was my nieces I would offer to get them a new one or go buy them a new one. I’d like my nieces and nephews to be safe .

Reach out to local hospitals, pregnancy centers or fire stations and see who can help with getting new car seats. Why report it? Help them instead
Ignore literally all of these people saying “ family doesn’t report family”. The best advice i can give you is to call your local dcf office and see if there are any local programs to help with carseats. Also talk to your sibling and see if there’s a reason why the children’s carseats are in the shape they are. If its a case of affordability, see about helping. If they just dont care, call your local dcf office and ask for them to do a wellness check because I’ll tell you right now if family didnt report family, I never would have stopped being abused and assaulted by my birth mothers husband. My uncle reported it, my mothers brother, and he saved my life. So yeah, because what everyone here is choosing to ignore is that those babies are endangered by being in those carseats. So like i said, ask the parents why, and support the kids the best you can. Whether that means buying new carseats because their parents cant afford it or making a report because their parents just cant be bothered to get new ones all depends on the parents.

I’d be seeing WHY those are the seats she is isung before deciding what to do. If she legit can’t afford new ones that’s a very different situation VS she doesn’t want to VS can’t afford bc she’s throwing money at drugs/drinking/gambling etc.
Hi I’m gonna be out opinionated I’m sure based on other comments… but if it were me… I’d educate them first. Or try too. Car seat safety IS NOT A CHOICE. it could mean life or death to a child in an accident. It’s not your responsibility to shell out your own money to buy them car seats. It is solely the parents job to insure they have a proper and safe car seat if they have a child riding in a vehicle. Not Finding the money and figuring out a safe alternative is a whole other problem. Car seats do not have to be expensive. They have affordable options out in the world. If they don’t respond well to the education and seem not to care your damn right I would report them in my eye that is negligent.
Seriously there are so many ways you could actually help your family instead of causing more harm. Buy them some, or ask for help on a local group… don’t do that. That’s just mean. Talk to your sibling at the least.

How about you buy them new car seats? Find a cheap one used? How about going to the fire department and asking for new carseats? If your so concerned FIX the problem. Why try to get your niece into trouble just for being broke or poor? Call around to local fire department. They will help. Maybe even call local second hand stores? Get your nice better car seats without ruining your family and without stressing out your niece.

If not can you afford to buy them new ones if not have them get in touch with the local health department and they may give them new ones. Call target and see if you can get a date for the car seat exchange and if they qualify . If you cared about your nieces you wouldn’t try to get them taken away by getting their parents in trouble . Why don’t you help buy them one? You calling on your own sister/brother is gonna have them in court and they’d have to pay court costs and obv they can’t afford it! If the car seat is the only safety issue, then try and offer them help. People need kindness. Compassion. While I don’t agree with “don’t report them- they’re family” Not everyone has a good relationship with their family and honestly, blood can mean so little to others. however, in this case- I would tall to the mom and ask if I could help her financially to get newer car seat. if she’s a good mom regardless of the car seats- don’t report them.
