Should you rotate a childs piercings?

I just got my 3 year olds ears pierced and they said to rotate when cleaning them but online it says that’s a bad idea. Did you guys rotate your child’s earrings?

Rotate unless you want to scab the earring to the skin and you can do this after a bath
Also take the backs off carefully and clean or replace or there will be a scabby residue on them

There’s actually no reason to rotate them. You could damage the healing skin by doing so. Just clean the front and back of the earlobe with saline spray and a qtip.

Piercer here! If done with a needle no they do not need to be rotated! Just keep them clean and a little loose so there’s airflow in the back. That way it doesn’t trap heat and moisture and get infected and irritated. If they were done with the gun then yes rotate them the gun pushes tissue and just forces the jewelry inside the cartilage inside can get stiff so massaging and rotating is needed.

It sounds like you went to a piercing booth and not to a professional. You should not rotate them only clean them as directed with saline and a qtip

No. My daughter has had her ears pierced twice at a piercing studio. We were told in no uncertain terms - do not rotate. Use the after piercing spray three times daily and leave them alone for three weeks.

Yes. My daughters skin grew around hers because I didn’t do this often. Mind you she had them pierced at 2 months and she’s 6. It didn’t take long for it to happen. I rotated for years

We went to a tattoo/piercing place that pierced 2 of our girls ears and it’s not recommended to rotate anymore.

Absolutely!! You must! If you don’t the skin will eventually fuse to the earrings and get infected!

My son recently had his done and was told not to rotate. I could push the earring forward and back when cleaning and have to say it has healed nicely

Yes to get rid of the scab and bacteria, dead skin etc

I have multiple piercings, ear and body- every professional piercer I’ve been to has suggested to rotate. Just got my 5 year old’s ears done last week and that piercer at the tattoo shop said the same thing :woman_shrugging:t2:

My daughter spins her earrings everyday. We don’t switch the earrings between ears but definitely spin them daily. We also make sure to clean them pretty frequently as well.

Yes, to help get rid of “dirt” or dead skin under them.

I’d go with what they told you not the internet

No. It hinders the healing process and is very outdated advice.

No. U will damage the healing skin.

I got my daughter’s ears pierced at 10 days old and never rotated them once. She’s 2 now and never even had them get red or irritated one bit

No don’t rotate just clean them twice a day with the solution and let the take my 3 year old son has his done and we went 2 weeks ago and he chose a pair from a tattoo piercing studio and they put them in for him and he was really happy with them just keep checking them that the backs aren’t too tight or they aren’t going bad

Yes, it is generally recommended to rotate your earrings to prevent them from getting stuck or causing any discomfort. This is especially important for earrings with posts or clasps, as they can sometimes become tight or difficult to remove if not rotated regularly. By gently rotating your earrings every few days, you can help ensure that they stay comfortable and easy to wear.

Do not rotate just clean and turn them

Yes absolutely …the blood dries and makes it hard to move them …rotating helps heal the broken skin there.

They should be loose enough to pull away from the skin to clean. My little one had hers done 5 weeks ago and has no issues with just cleaning

I rotated piercings so they wouldn’t heal and get stuck to the earring

I have multiple piercings myself as well as my oldest. You do not need to rotate.

Some do some don’t it appears. Honestly, I don’t see it being detrimental either way.

yes! it helps prevent sticking & scabbing.

Don’t take them out for 6 months and clean with saline solution.

LISTEN TO YOUR PIERCER. They are the professionals.

Yes you should rotate them
Every time you clean the area

There’s no reason to rotate them. Just keep them clean.

No. You don’t move any kinda of piercing. It just messes up the tissue that’s healing inside. Just saline solution 3 times a day. Do not take the backing off, do not take it out, do not twist them. Leave it alone and just keep it clean and sterile. If you need any advice, ask a professional piercer at a tattoo shop, which I’m hoping that’s where it was done in the first place instead of with a freaking :gun:

rotating them actually causes the healing process to not goes smoothly and increases the risk seven infection. It also prolong the healing process.

Any reputable professional piercer will tell you the exact same thing. Do not rotate them. Just make sure you are keeping them clean.

To the women telling people to rotate the earrings.
Go call up your local tattoo and piercing shop. They’ll tell you you’re spreading around old false information. Because Nothing says traumatize the ear more than rotate an earring through an open flesh wound. Smfh… this is old info that should not be followed in 2024.

Don’t take out got six weeks

And for after care they do tell you to turn them

No one should be following the advice from people who pierce their child at home with a piercing gun…
People. Do. Not. Rotate. Fresh. Piercings.

No you don’t need to. I’m not sure about if you got them done with a gun though. Poor kid should have had the choice

Your 3yo shouldn’t have her ears pierced. There’s no way she can make an informed decision to modify her body.

Follow the after care piercing instructions

I was always told to hold the earring itself and only twist the back piece to keep the skin from growing over

I never did I have10 ear piercings and never did for my daughters

I have multiple piercings and I was told that when you clean them, push the jewelry back and forth to clean and stay loose

i never touched my daughters piercings except to clean and never had any issues. we pierced them 3 years ago when she was 1 & she healed great

Yes you should twist them. I was told you should and I know I’ve had to with any of my piercings. If not, I’ve heard of any piercing jewelry getting stuck due the skin healing around the jewelry. When I got my eight year old’s ears pierced (she came to me and told me she was ready), I would wash my hands, squirt the antibacterial soap on them, twist them gently, and then hit them with antibacterial soap again just to make sure they stayed clean but the reason why I didn’t just twist them before cleaning is because the soap I use is not only made to where you don’t have to wash it off but it also made it easier to twist them on both her and I. If you are still unsure. Call the piercer and ask what they recommend but do not surf the web for answers about stuff like this because you will find mixed answers. For example, the back of my daughter’s earring got lodged in her ear. :sob: It also caused a mild infection. This happened on a Sunday. So, her pediatrician’s office wasn’t open and neither were the urgent cares (because of the time I noticed this unfortunate event). I didn’t want to take her to the emergency room unless I absolutely had to because she was already upset and I didn’t want to traumatize her, especially if it wasn’t necessary to take her. The piercer was not in either. In a panic, I looked at the back of her ear and saw the back of the earring barely sticking out. I grabbed it with the tips of my finger nails and quickly pulled it out. Pus and a little blood came out. I let it drain completely and then I cleaned the crap out of it with antibacterial soap and the salt water spray we have. I also changed the earrings out. Knowing I really should put some kind of ointment on it as well. I made the mistake of surfing the web for answers. I got mixed results on if it’s okay to use Neosporin because that’s all I had in my house at the moment. I said screw it and hoped for the best. I put a very thin layer on it after doctoring it up. The next day I took her to the pediatrician. They had me take the earring out so they could see the damage. That little girl’s ear looked darn near perfect. Her pediatrician told me they wouldn’t have even known it was infected had I not said anything. They told me to keep cleaning it with what I used and using a little Neosporin was fine. It all worked out and her ears are fine now. But that’s what I’m saying, I read a lot of answers saying do not use Neosporin and it’s because of how thick it is along with it possibly being able to trap the infection in if there’s any residual bacteria in there. Which I understand that but her pediatrician told me it was fine that I used it and it actually helped our situation. Go talk to your piercer and pediatrician if you need to. Don’t go looking on the web for answers.

Yes. Rotate them. I had my piercings get imbedded in my ears as a child. Rotate them.

Don’t rotate. That’s old info. Move back and forth if you need to when cleaning with saline.
