I had a previous miscarriage at 18 weeks due to a subchorionic hemorrhage. I want to try to get pregnant again, but the doctor wants me to get the Makena shot. Has anyone dealt with this? I don’t know if I trust the Makena shots. Thank you all.
I got them earlier in this pregnancy. I had to see a Maternal Fetal specialist and I was told that the progesterone suppositories were more effective so that’s what I’ve been doing since.
I never had any side effects from the makena shots other than my arm being really sore for 2-3days after!
I had a few rounds of it but it made my hip lock up where they injected it and I couldn’t walk for days after getting it so the doctor stopped them.
I did both the progesterone suppositories and the shots as well as bed rest. I ended up being hospitalized at 28 weeks and went into labor at 35
I don’t nothing about it but I would just do my research before. Best of luck.
I get Makena shots weekly for my current pregnancy and got them for my last pregnancy as well, as I have a history of preterm labor. I personally do not experience any side effects from it. The spot where I get the shot can be itchy sometimes, but besides that, nothing.
However, I would definitely research beforehand and decide if benefits outweigh risks, talk it over with your dr. and decide what is best for you.
It’s pretty important.
