Hello! We recently got a dog from a family member who couldn’t keep the animal. It is a pug. My daughter has eczema. Well last night in her sleep she said her back was itchy and when I changed her for school this morning she had hives on her lower back! They’re gone now and we used Benadryl. She has never had hives my bf thinks it’s the dog she’s allergic to? Anyone go through this if so what did you do with the dog? She loves this dog and I’d hate to rehome him but if we have to then
It could be just something off her shirt. If it keeps happening maybe but just give it a few days and see
Only way to find out 100% is get her tested.
It would be pretty strange for hive’s from a dog allergy only present on the back unless she was rubbing her back on the dog I’m gonna say the hives are probably due to something else.
Ps. it sounds like ur bf doesn’t like the dog and though your daughter having an allergy would be sure fire way of getting rid of it.
Check your dog for fleas first off. Fleas will bite humans & the bites look like hives, which is more likely than the dog causing hives. If your dog shows no signs of fleas, check for bed bugs. Secondly, definitely be seen or referred for allergy testing. Me & my youngest son are both allergic to dogs & cats, our asthma/allergy dr said as long as they stay off his bed we can keep them. We dont break out in hives though, our symptoms are wheezing. We also get weekly shots & take daily allergy meds (Xyzal & Singulair for me, singulair & zyrtec for him)
Could be washing powder, get tested for everything, my daughter wasn’t allergic to cats or dogs, it was house dust mite
You can give any over the counter Allergy meds such as Claritin or Zyrtec to help easy the allergies. Allergy testing and allergy shots is the only for sure way to “cure” allergies. Pet allergies is the most common it doesn’t mean you can’t have pets you just need to manage them. Unless severe of course. Don’t allow dog in her room or bed, vacuum daily, use specialty shampoo and keep dog bathed but not to frequently or it causes dry skin and more dander.
