Sometimes my son says he can't swallow...advice?

My son is saying he can’t swallow, but his throat doesn’t hurt and he can drink liquids just fine. It is also inconsistent. He will eat his peanut butter sandwich just fine and swallow or bites of a cookie. He will eat yogurt, but then this morning he is saying he can’t swallow yogurt after he finished most of it. Any ideas. Anyone have experiences they want to share please.

Doctor visit to rule out any obstruction in his throat. It could be nothing or it could be serious.

How’s his tonsils look? My daughter would say this and her tonsils were almost touching in the middle. Had to jump through all the damn hoops to get them out because she was never sick

My son said this for ten yrs and doctors said he was faking, but after a yr of a constant cold they finally listened and referred us to ENT and they were like wow his tonsils should have been out 8 yrs ago! They are so inflamed that’s why he struggles to swallow. And we had them removed and he hasn’t had an issue since. Might be something to look st

My daughter went through this for about 6 months. Nothing was wrong, just anxiety. She just THOUGHT she couldn’t swallow but could swallow just fine. One day it just stopped

Have him tuck his chin down when he swallows and see if that helps. Make a doctor appointment.

Could be EoE, could be nothing also. Speak with MD.

My son did this at 11 it was acid reflux. We started over the counter acid reflux meds and problem solved!

He might be just full and can’t express it to you because you might made him eat before when he said he is full and now with this excuse you let him get out without problem. I always lessen to my kids when they say they’re full

My grandson did this for over a year. His tonsils were enlarged. Once removed no more complaints.

He needs to see a gastroenterologist asap . Can be allergies,
Gastroparesis, among other things . I have to have my esophagus stretched . You don’t want him
To
Choke / which can easily happen

I have food allergies and my throat feels like that if I have any exposure to any of the things I’m allergic too. Even just in passing. I know that feeling.

Check w a professional of course, pediatrician & a gastro- sometimes acid reflux can cause that feeling. Not saying it’s that, but it’s something that CAN happen (I’m sure one of the many things it can be)

I had that when I was a kid. I think it was just thinking of it gave me that reaction-pretty much a nerve sort of thing. I had to learn to relax and stop thinking about it.

He may need to have a Swallow Study. Contact your pediatrician, you’ll need a referral to a Specialist

Ask the pediatrician for a G.I. referral. They can probably do a swallow study or an endoscopy. They might even test for gastroparesis by doing a stomach emptying test. Quick and painless. OK well long and painless. Something’s not right.

What did his doctor say when you asked him?

This might be a texture issue or a gag reflex.

My son just got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and that was one of the symptoms.

I have Eosinophilic esophagitis as a kid I had troubles swallowing, the worst was meat for me a swallow study and eventually esophagus dilation with biposys ended up being my treatment I go once every couple years to get dilated.

Have you looked inside?! My son’s tonsils were so swollen and he had no symptoms other then hard time swallowing. My son ended up having tonsillitis n had emergency surgery to have his tonsil removed.
