Thanksgiving recipe thread

Can we have a Thanksgiving recipe thread!? My grandpa invited us over, but I’m going to bring most of the food. He has a turkey and stuffing, and we’ll be having around 15 family members there, including children. Maybe things that are easy to make that morning or the night before, so I don’t have to drag too many “cooked” things to my mom’s.

I love making Spiced Cranberry Sauce, sweetened with honey and orange juice (apple juice or apple cider works great too!). You can sweeten it more with brown sugar, or extra honey. It’s always so good that even the kids around the table love it! It’s become my signature every year, and my nephews ask for it even when it’s not Thanksgiving! I’m not a huge fan of nutmeg, so I usually lighten that up a bit and add allspice instead.

With that said… Please reconsider doing large indoor gatherings with people outside your home this year. We plan on doing Thanksgiving later next year when all of this is over. :crossed_fingers:t3:

We do rolls, potatoes and gravy, fruit salad, celery with pb, coleslaw, olives, cranberries, yams and ham

You do realize by going to your grandfathers for Thanksgiving could mean he will be dead by Christmas. Is it worth the risk?

Ron Cooper thats right! But it takes loosing loved ones to learn.

This one isnt really a recipe, but I like to jazz my mashed potatoes up by using: whipping cream and whipping them with butter, salt and pepper, garlic powder or pressed garlic and a bit of cheese!

Green bean casserole, cornbread casserole, sweet potato casserole and baked mac & cheese

Always seems like an unhealthy carb & sugar fest, so here are some veggie recipes:

I cut up vegetables, put them in olive oil (EVOO) & spread out on a cookie sheet. Drizzle with balsamic glaze & roast @ 350 until tender, flipping them over halfway through cooking (10 minutes maybe?). Whatever you have on hand in the root vegetable family works: carrots (buy “baby” carrots & they’re already cut & peeled), parsnips, beets, fennel, turnip, rutabaga. Also onions, fresh green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers (or hotter ones if that’s what you like).

I do the same with Brussels sprouts halved but broil them instead of bake. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon before serving. Make these just before eating so they retain crispiness. If you can get flavored EVOO that adds a little extra flavor. I found blood orange and Greek spices flavors. Aldi has some with rosemary.

Creamed spinach is good. Add Parmesan cheese, chopped or dried minced onions, or bacon bits (crumbled on top just before serving), and/or use real cream vs. milk for extra flavor. Put one TBSP each butter & flour in a pot, stir over medium heat until melted & combined. Slowly add 1-2 cups milk or cream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. If it does get lumpy, just chuck it in a blender & return to pan. Add a box of frozen chopped spinach. & stir until mixed.

Crudités before or during your meal; no cooking required: cut up vegetables, cherry tomatoes, olives. Add cured meats like salami or pepperoni, sliced cheeses, grapes, strawberries or melon slices, cubes or balls if you want. Or buy those platters from the store.

Bag or jar of sauerkraut. Heat & serve sprinkled with caraway seeds.

Pickled or plain sliced or mini beets out of the can or jar. Serve hot or cold.

One more semi-unhealthy fruit one:

Equal parts juice oranges (organic if possible) and cranberries (wash them & toss the squishy ones). For a small bag of cranberries you will need about 2-3 oranges, depending on size. Have a cup of sugar or equivalent sweetener of choice. Quarter the oranges. Put 1/2 to 1/4 ingredients in a food processor or blender & chop into fine pieces. Empty the processor & add more until all raw ingredients are used. Taste to adjust sugar. Serve on turkey, ham, pork, chicken, or bake on top of meatloaf. You can also add relish in plain yoghurt, top ice cream, add to hot or cold cereals. You can put in jars & freeze for months.

Rolls, cranberry sauce, things to make Thanksgiving punch. KFC green beans, buy instant potatoes Idaho’s buttery, add a little cream and a little less water. Yummy

I cheat and buy 2 cups of gravy from KFC the day before. Heat and serve the next day, it goes very well with Turkey. Don’t forget biscuits/dinner rolls, and take a vegetable.

Make sure you wash your hands oh wait !!! Actually bathe wash your hair before go that will help a bunch !! Even your kids !! And their clothes and jacket that they’ve been wearing three four days straight since they don’t have to go to school and it smells like funk I think that would help keep down the virus cuz it seems like teenagers this and some adults do not want to take a shower or bath or even wash your damn hair keep your damn fingernails clean and s*** and short if you want to be scared of not going to visit your own family that they might not live to see tomorrow or yourself cuz when your family’s gone it hurts you can’t bring them back!

I do candies carrots. Boil baby carrots until soft then simmer them in butter and brown sugar. Best made fresh. Also, baked asparagus with parmesan cheese.

Think of what travels well and can do day before. Fruit filled jello, deviled eggs, rolls, cheese and fruit tray, baked sweet potatoes, Mac n cheese, cranberry sauce, corn pudding.

You could get the jellied cranberry in a can you could make mashed potatoes in a crock pot where all you need to plug it in a relish dish where you could carry it easily

Follow CDC guidelines - stay at home - don’t be a super spreader!
