Thoughts on the menstrual cup?

What do y’all think of using a menstrual cup instead of pads/tampons? Pros and cons. I just ordered one but still nervous to actually use it when it arrives.

I wanna try it so badly. I have super light periods now cuz of my iud so tampons hurt and I personally can’t do pads, they gross me out. A couple of my girlfriends said they will never go back.

It’ll change your whole outlook on your period. I’m glad I made the switch

Love it! Environmentally friendly, long lasting and you never have to worry about running out in the middle of your period!

Not a huge fan but I personally have heavy periods so it’s too messy for me.

My personal opinion is that they’re gross.

Other than i wish it held more there a game changer. I have 2 were pads with it bc i have a blood disease that make my periods horrible. I used 2 go through 2 40 count boxes for each cycle and a pack + of pads. I go through maybe 15 pads now and its a whole lot simpler. Word of warning keep your nails cut. I scratched myself and put my thumb nail through it.

:raising_hand_woman:t2: Diva cup and absolutely don’t regret it. I read a lot of reviews on different brands before buying it. Can’t believe it took me so long.

I had it leak on me. No clue what I did wrong. It was super frustrating. I was not at home so I had to use a tampon also which was the only thing I had in my car.

I love them. Tampons were very uncomfortable and even painful at times. They don’t need emptied nearly as often as tampons need changed either so you don’t really have to worry as much about them

I loveeeeeee mine. I use both the silicone reusable one & the soft cup disposable…

If the stem is too long you can cut it or flip the cup inside out.
There is definitely a learning curve, wear a liner/pad as back up until you’re comfortable with it.
Look up different folds to try which one fits you best.
Good luck!

I love it for sleeping or just around home or town but I cannot use it at work. I do a lot of up and down squatting at work and find it shifts from all the movement and I’m worried about it leaking

I hated them
Looked like a murder scene every time I had to empty it

I bought one and wanted to love it so much but it was horrible for me and felt like torture. I ordered the “small” size against all advice and despite having two kids it’s still a nope. I know people love them and I had such high hopes. I do use cloth pads and love those. I wish I never would’ve even used traditional pads to begin with. They are soo much more comfortable.

Absolutely love menstrual cups. Takes a bit of getting used to - I suggest using them at home for a few days if possible while you get used to placing them, or if it’s not possible, wear a pad for the first few days. I’ve had many different cups and they’ve all been good in different ways. For example if you have a low cervix or your cervix moves down low during parts of your period, there are some bulb shaped ones that can fit better, but if your cervix is high they are extremely hard (though not impossible) to place correctly. I tended to use my normal shaped one at the beginning and end of my period but in the middle when it’s heavy and my cervix is low, the bulb shaped one is more reliable.

You’ll never get toxic shock from it and it’s more environmentally friendly! Good on you. Also following. :slightly_smiling_face:

I prefer depo shot… no periods at all…

Not crazy about the plastic. Gotta do more research to be sure that there’s nothing harmful. I only use llamo pads. Natural herbal pads

I loved it. My cramps were less harsh. I was able to feel confident swimming or doing my daily activities without wondering if I’m gonna mess up my clothes. There’s nothing disgusting about it tbh

I use the soft disc, it’s similar to a cup but the ones I use aren’t reusable. They’re shallow and don’t rely on suction so I’ve never had any pain with them. I got them because I have a tilted cervix and didnt know if the cup would fit. I prefer them over tampons/pads and am looking into a reusable version, they can be a bit messy to remove until you get used to them, but I’ll never go back tbh.

I’ve been using one for 15 years. I’ll never go back to tampons and pads. It takes a little practice at first but after a few cycles you get the hang of it.

I’ll never use tampons again. I have several different kinds of cups, and love them all. My cramps are less severe, I don’t worry near as much about leaking, it’s hella more comfortable, better for me, and better for the environment. It took me about 2-3 days to get used to putting it in, but once I figured out the best position for me, it was a cinch.

Love my cup. Been using it for 4 years

I don’t mind it. I still used a thin pad just in case though. Cleanup part is kinda gross in my opinion though

I love my cup, I’ll never go back to tampons . There is a learning curve, but by the end of my first cycle using it it was a breeze. Its reusable so you save money . I have little to zero leaks depending on how heavy my cycle is. I can go all day at work and not worry about leaks or having to empty it. It’s great

My daughter absolutely loves hers and says her cramps are almost non- existent now.

I made the switch and I love the cup i got the femmycycle and its great they are a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of how to use it with your body they are wonderful. Less cramping less trips to the bathroom for cleanup and money saved.

Their the fricking shit, and pads and tampons are hella nasty, watch YouTube videos it’ll help ya!

There’s a learning curve to it. I like not leaking overnight.

Much prefer the classic feminine products. The thought of pulling out a cup of blood out is disgusting.

Loved mine. They are awesome.

Does it work well for people who have heavy cycles? Is it a smooth & discreet process if u have to empty it while out in public? Like do u have to rinse it out in the sink each time b4 re-inserting?

I’ll never wear a tampon again! Less clots less cramping. Hardest part is knowing or learning your body bc it has to be sealed against your uterus or else you will leak! Feel your body know where you are putting it the position matters. It’s not like a tampon just goes in and absorbs it has to sit right. Always boil the cup after each final use. Push down with your tryna poop when you go to remove it then pinch the bottom and pull it out just just reach up in there.

I tried , I really did but it’s just too messy for me. I’m a very heavy bleeder.
It was also not the easiest to get in correctly and sometimes can be hard to get out.

I have one, never going back. I absolutely love it, it will leak sometimes at first as you have to learn how to insert it and such but they’re amazing. They can stay in much longer to so you don’t have to worry about only sleeping a few hours to change it and ect

100% recommend. It is sooooo much easier then buying pads/tampons every month!

I use the flex disc. I also bleed a lot so the first few months was tricky. But overall best charge for me.

I’m using one right now. I almost always prefer it. It makes periods much more comfortable.

I see a lot of people saying they are gross… unlike the alternatives (pads and tampons), with the cup all the blood goes down the drain/toilet instead of in trash cans and you just wash it and your hands… seems much cleaner and LESS gross.

I mean, the bloods there regardless…

My sister uses it and loves it and I decided to try it out and honestly grosses me out so I still just use pads :woman_shrugging:t2: (( the only reason it grosses me out is bc of the blood  I cant handle it lol ))

If you get it in right, and you have a really predictable flow, so you can empty it in the shower, or at home, anyway, then it’s kind of great. The once or twice I got it in correctly it was SUPER comfortable and I really liked it. Even did several 5 mile runs wearing it. However, I have a really heavy flow and then light and then spotting and it’s so unpredictable. Plus I have a severely anteverted uterus and my cervix is like horizontal, pointing to my belly button, so positioning it properly to avoid leaks was a nightmare. I imagine if you have a normal situation it’s easier to know if it’s on correctly and therefore perhaps a good thing. Certainly better for the environment and your body.

Personally i don’t agree with using them. Our periods are a natural monthly cleanse, the blood is supposed to exit through your vagina and taking the excess tissues and bacteria with it. To each their own, but for me no thanks.

Loved mine it was the greatest thing never went back to pads or tampons

I love my cup! I’ll never go back. Cheap, easy, effective…yes please!

Sounds gross, but so is leaving a tampon in there for 6 hours.

Can teens use this or not ?please and thanks !

I have one and absolutely love it. I’ve been using it for 3years now and have never went back to tampons

They are nice in the fact they do seem to contain everything until you’re ready to take them out (I’d still use a liner if you have a heavy flow.) They are MESSY when removing. I starting removing them in the shower. Will back up what the gal said above, there is a learning curve.

I haven’t tried it because I work at an office all day and fear of making a mess all over the bathroom!

It’s the best thing ever. Never will use tampons again.

Call me dumb but what is a cup???

No thanks. Toooooo much work

If ya have a heavy flow, it just a huge mess.

I use a cup because tampons make my cramps worse, and I fill pads up too quickly. The cup has a learning curve, but I promise you will figure it out and become a pro! I am a major worrier, I have awful anxiety, and using a cup stressed me out till I figured it out. I actually cried when we moved because I stressed myself in my period being early and we couldn’t find my cup. It was a excruciating 2 days till I found it, and I happy cried :joy:
I didn’t remember just how bad the period cramp pain from the tampons were until I had to use them again, and boy did that make me glad to find my cup!!
