Tips on breastfeeding when your big-chested?

Do any big-chested mamas have tips on how to breastfeed? I’m in my 2nd kiddo, and my 1st was in NICU tube fed for a while, and by the time I was able to try to get him to breastfeed, he wouldn’t go for it, but I remember having trouble finding a comfortable position. My chest isn’t perky, so I felt like my whole boob was over his face Aside from leaning back any other positions or tips / tricks?

Do i didn’t get to breast feed my first child (she couldn’t latch right). But when they where showing me good positions in the hospital one was the baby laying long ways across me and my slightly reclined back. Im gonna have my second child in march and im gonna try to attempt to breastfeed again.

Football Position…cradle the entire baby, feet towards your back and the baby’s head is facing upward and forward…

Have u tried a boppy? Helps hold him in place. Or laying on your side.
Do you get a lactation nurse? When I had my daughter (my 3rd kid) a lady came right to the house, sent by the hospital. She helped so much. She said feed your boob to the baby like a cheeseburger!

I had to hold/kinda pinch my breast while football cradling with the other the arm. No mater what position I was in was just too big and my boob would plop over the babies nose. Freaked me out. So there was no comfy sleeping breastfeeding posistion for me.

As above…I fed all 3 of mine underarm

You could try laying on your side or the ‘football hold’

There really are no tips from me . Just know it’s best for your baby . The baby will not suffocate . I pushed down on my breast so I could see that the baby could breathe . And some skin may show when you nurse . But , you are feeding your baby and that’s all that matters .

Football hold. My favourite spot was a big comfy recliner where I could pop out the bottom to put my feet up. Get a good latch leaning forward, then slowly lean back and either raise the leg on that side, or jam another pillow under their head. (32H over here)

I lay my son across my front “tummy to tummy” and use the breast friend pillow

The football hold works best for me. I just had my baby 2 weeks ago.

Football hold always worked well for me. I would also sometimes just pull a portion of my breast through the holes of a nursing bra while the rest was still supported inside the bra and not in their face. Might sound weird  but I found it useful.

I’ve always done the football hold with the nursing pillow. And when nursing laying down I put her on a pillow and cradle her, with pillows supporting my back

Use a boppy. I am large breasted and found it most comfortable when I sat on the couch with my legs up and the baby on the boppy

Lie down on the bed with baby lying right beside you. Or lean back on a recliner and lie baby across your chest with his belly to your boobies.

First of all great job for posting this and trying to find an answer that works for you  Thank you for choosing such a natural way to help your baby grow :four_leaf_clover::herb::breast_feeding:t2:
By the time my now 1yo was 4m old I had to start laying on my side because it was too heavy to hold her up even with a pillow
We still lay on our side and she falls asleep boobie feeding for bedtime
I didn’t try this with my eldest, I’ll be doing it from 1m onwards with my next it’s so easy and I can use my phone with 2 hands if I need to :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
We aren’t chest to chest now that she is so long at 1 her legs are in the way :rofl: But I find it very easy to maneuver myself to suit how far or close she needs me to be for her to be comfortable.
I live in maternity bras, with the 2 layers helps hold my other girl out of the way while I’m on my side :face_with_hand_over_mouth::partying_face:

Good advice on above comments xx the first few days/weeks will be the hardest, don’t be discouraged. Your baby will then be tuned to your body and breasts (position, form of nipple etc) good luck xx

Football hold in one hand, pull your boobie back if you need to to keep from suffocating baby with the other hand

I had the opposite problem. I’m a DD and perky. My second baby would latch but my back would hurt from bending a little so I did it have to physically hold her in place. Football hold while walking around or standing worked best for me but it’s exhausting.

The football position was the only way I could do it comfortably and I’m not overly large chested lol

I’m big chested too & my nips don’t look forward. As I read these comments about using this & that, what do you do in public? You can’t very well lug around a boppy pillow. That’s the struggle I came to with my first & ended up switching to formula. I’m now almost 4m with baby #2 & don’t even want to attempt to bf

I was taught the rugby position. Baby is on your side head in your hand under your breast to guide head and other hand to guide breast. My baby was very small and I have large breasts and it was the best position I found until he grew a little. Xx

My favorite is side laying

Tummy to tummy…have the baby lay on a boppy that you can put around your front (like the bra band area)

One side I did a football hold, but I couldn’t for the life of me do a football hold on my other side. I did not prefer the boppy pillow because of my bigs boobs. It came up too high I’m also short though. And it didn’t fit great around me either. A firm pillow and a small hand towel you can place underneath your breast to help prop it up and position it perfectly where the baby needs to latch. It took me 4 months to feel completely comfortable breastfeeding

I cradle with some adjustments… I put pillows or blankets under elbow to prop her up high enough. I sit her body against me but angle her head out away from me. I try to prop my legs up some just to help with not having to lean so much. There have been times she will force her head in to my boob she has cut offher ability to breathe. She pulls her head away and grasps for air. She unlatches when she does this and then goes right back to it

I wish so much I would have had this kind of support when I had my daughter. I pumped because I was so scared of breastfeeding. You ladies are such a huge blessing.

Boppy and the football hold! 7 months and going with my baby girl!

Honestly the baby does all the work but laying on your side with the baby laying down was the best for me

I always used the football hold. I’d set up a pillow or something next to me, lay him on that, and it was great and hands free. That was great till he got big enough to push off the back of the couch…that was unpleasant, lol. I also used nipple shields for years. They were a life saver. Really helped keep the boob off his nose.

Put a receiving blanket under the boob… helps with leaks as well…

My friend found nursing in football hold worked better for her tiny babies and LARGE B’s!

My first went to the NICU & I pumped so she wasn’t very receptive after she came home. My 2nd last year, I used the pillows in the hospital bed to prop him up under my boob on my side in a football type of hold. I had a boppy, but I found it was easier with pillows & blankets propping him up while I leaned back. It was easier in a hospital bed that could recline, but at home I used blankets to prop my back up comfortably to hold my baby.
Good luck with your baby & congratulations on having another😊

Fed my first one from an under arm position, basically held her like she was an American football!! She was poor at latching initially, it helped me a lot, hope this helps, best of luck!!

I nursed my babies holding their bodies more up and down long ways on my body instead if across my body for the first few months until they had good head control and could reposition themselves to where they could eat and breathe. If I was sitting id place their bottoms on my leg while were nursing

The boppy pillow was awesome for me. Just make sure theor nose is free to breathe and you will get the hang of it pretty quick.

So I just used a recliner so that way my weight of my boobs wouldn’t crush my little guy

I did cradle with a lot of boob sandwiches(c hold basically we made jokes by saying boob sandwiches) I would also put my finger against my breast by her nose to make a little air hole basically. :two_hearts:

Lay on your side and feed that way…thats what i did until his head got bigger!

Boppy pillow helps alot. I was huge when i breastfeed my 2nd child.

Recently had mine. Definitely look into the football. Cross body as well. Little tricky but great if your tired on one side. Belly to belly is good if you had them natural

I used to hold the top of mine just up a little if I was sitting up to feed them honestly feed feeding them laying on my side was easiest

I cup my breast making my thumb and index fingers form a c and help my boob into my sons mouth. Otherwise it would cover his whole face lol

The only thing that worked for me was belly to belly.

Definitely the football hold has been easier for me. Plus sandwiching the boob for good latch and making sure the baby’s nose is clear. I’m on my 3rd and for the first time breastfeeding pretty successfully this time.

They feel their way around trust me I felt the same way when I nursed. I was so scared but my girl always adjusted her self … it’s a two ppl job. Ensure the baby’s head is in your elbow crease and you lift boob till baby latches and then once baby’s hands get a good grip you can slowly release .

Football worked for me when my little was younger. He is my 4th and I nursed every time so my DDs hang low lol. Now I still nurse during the night laying down. He is 22 months.

My boob was bigger than my kids head at a size h I understand, I had to prop the babes up on pillows and hold my boob so it wouldn’t smoother them. I laid back a lot. Football holds, it’s tricky but you’ll get it.

I hold my breast in between my fingers in a v shape and make sure that she can get what she needs and breathe.

I was VERY large breasted with my babies and the football hold seemed to be the comfiest and easiest for both my babies.

I would lay down on my side on the bed and flop my boob over. He would lay on the bed beside me kind of tucked up against me. This was most comfortable. Football hold worked too.

Roll a washcloth and put it under your breast when you feed

As long as one nostril is exposed baby will be alright. Use your thumb or index finger to press in your breast where it covers their nose

Football hold is usually the best position for large breasted moms.

The football position and the Bobby pillow were life savers when I was breastfeeding my son.

Cup your breast with two fingers on either side of the nipple and pull the hand back a little.

Fold a burp cloth or small towel and place underneath your breast.

Lazy-boy leaned back and left most of my breast in the bra just let out enough for them to get the nipple :+1:

Always wear a nursing bra!

I found layn side ways on the bed best evaaa instead of sittn in awkward position

Laying on my side was a life saver

Football hold and hold breast with other hand, so it doesn’t suffocate your LO. You can do this!!

Football hold, and under my arm with head at chest

I always laid on my side and did the football hold

Foot ball hold was great

Laying down was my favorite

I could only feed mine doing the football hold or laying down.

I held my oldest off to my side like a football instead of in front of me. My youngest is tube fed.

football hold while sitting and if youre home and are able lay down and just switch sides when you need to. baby can snuggle up to breast and eat. really good for lazy mornings too lol

Side laying position

Get a nursing pillow, like a Boppy.
Game changer.

I cradled with my Ds but I had to 2 hand until they got the gist of the latch. Meaning I had to hold my nipples and basically fold back some of my breast so they could feed since they were bigger boobs.

Never judge a book by its cover, I had always talked rubbish about the spiritual healers because i was living a luxurious life with my husband and kids. I never believed that anyone can solve someone’s problems. I could rudely reply to the posts about the healers with insults little didi know that one day they will help me. It started when a strange disease attacked one of my kid for almost eight months. I visited all the hospitals in Europe but the doctors couldn’t see the disease. I went to pastors, Sheiks, Sisters, and priests but couldn’t see any change. I sold all of my properties and lost my business because I was charged lots of money. I went back to Zero. My husband was used to a luxurious life since he was coming from a rich family. He started losing interest in me, disrespected me, insulted me in our kids’ presence, all my in-laws hate me. I had no shoulder to cry on.I was left with no hope. The most heartbreaking part is when my husband started cheating on me with one of the member of Parliament which I won’t mention her name. I got depressed and tried to commit suicide until when my friend asked me to contact papa marere . I had lost hope and besides didn’t trust healers. I called them scammers. My friend used his cellphone and called him. he gave him a date to go to her office and on that date, my friend picked me very early in the morning and took me there. I explained everything to him. he asked us to go back and bring the sick kid and we did so. he cast his spells and after a few hours, my son was healed. And he also told me that my husband will return that he has settled that After a few weeks my husband came back home and apologized to me. he gave me a ring for my business and as I speak now am not complaining. I got back everything.+2348109805184 is his number for help. Email him via ( marerespells@gmail. com ) he is INCREDIBLE.

For me lying on the bed was the bed option , on my side …

If I’m home, we lay down to feed. So much easier!

Football hold was the best way for me. My second was a premie and only 4lbs when I got to start actually putting him to the breat to feed him. That was the only way I could comfortably feed him without feeling like I was going to suffocate him.

Same! 4 babies and it’s the best.

My baby was so tiny only weighed 2.5kgs, he was a premature. And ive always had big boobs, which got even bigger during and after pregnancy. The only way I found comfortable for me and my son was to get comfy on a recliner and have a normal pillow that you’d sleep on across your lap, then hold bubs in a football position, with him laying on his side and kind of hugging around the side of me, always support his head with one hand and hold the boob with the other, after a few weeks it does it easier and then you start to see bubs enjoying it too, when they start opening there mouth and swaying there head from side to side ready to latch haha kinda scary at first but its something I reckon all mums should at least try, then find what works best for you and bubs, whether it’s breastfeeding or pumping or formula or a combination of them all

Nursing pillow, latch them on and then move them gently backwards so their nose is clear of your boob (this helps getting the hind milk).

I’m on my second child and I can honestly say that I hate the football hold. I have big babies so holding them that way was awkward for me. I learned that a boppy pillow is a huge help while sitting and nursing while laying down is great, especially during night feedings. I also think that expeirementing with different holds ect. is always a good idea, breastfeeding is a journey for mom and baby.

I definitely say a boppy pillow or side lying. You lay on your side with baby next you. None of the weight of your breast will be on baby. Only problem is that it cannot be done in public. Good luck momma!

I generally lay down on my back with her in my armpit. Football hold is close second.

Football hold and a thick washcloth rolled and tucked under the breast to lift it for better positioning

I used the football hold with a pillow to help position worked for both my boys
