I’m going grocery shopping for the first time with one of my babies, he is 9 months. I usually bring his car seat in but I need the whole buggy this time. He does really good sitting up in a supportive chair but the grocery cart is more open space. I don’t have a grocery cart cover atm. Will he be okay to sit in the cart? Walmart sells the covers, could I open it up and put it on there and by it when I go to leave ( we need one anyways for moments like this)? Sorry I’m ftm and my anxiety is up right now about this trip here in a few hours.
At 9 months he should be sitting independently and the cart is just fine.
I used blankets on both side of the cart so my daughter didn’t hit her head
I would go in and get the grocery cart cover and pay for it then open and use it for the shopping trip. I hope this helps
My kids were so wild and wiggly I just went to the stores that were open late and shopped after they went to bed.
Also, don’t stress! If things don’t go well, just take your child home & shop when someone else can watch him, get groceries delivered or order for pick up.
Bring a toy or two to keep him entertained. A blanket would work but you can do the cart cover as well per your suggestion. Wipe down the area he will be sitting first before putting him in though.
I usually put my baby in a carrier on my chest while i shop. They also sell them at walmart.
You can do that! I had my daughter sitting in the cart earlier than that, I just had the diaper bag on one side of her and rolled blankets on the other side
You could use blankets to put around him for support.
Yes you can my kids open snacks/toys and I just pay for them after
I always just get my groceries delivered so much easier
9 months he shouldn’t have a problem sitting in the cart
I put my kids in the cart with no problem. Ask a friend to go with you and put the baby in the stroller.
They have carts at Walmart that you can put the car seat in, you can put the car seat in the front part, you can also bring a stroller and hook the front wheels under the cart and push the cart with the stroller.
3 kids & I never used a cover. I took disinfectant wipes & wiped the seat down. I’d use blankets or stuffed animals to prop them if needed. I used shower curtain rings to attach toys to the cart. They could play with them but when they threw them they didn’t go far . People looked at me funny but I talked to my babies. Told them what we’re buying, colors, shapes etc. Kept them engaged & entertained.
Do you have a carrier to baby wear? Then people won’t try to talk in your child’s face or touch them.
I tried to use the cart cover with my last and it was such a pain and waste of time and money. If you have a boppy pillow or one of those little neck travel pillow put it around waist for support or a rolled baby blanket to take up a little space and add support.
Yes you can use what you need and buy it. My kids used to have snacks while I shopped and the cashier got the empty packages. I used to also go and prop them up either 2 cushions while I shopped and put them back when I was done. When they couldn’t sit up I’d put a basket in the seat area with a towel and lay them in the basket. Be creative sometimes we just have to do what we have to do to get the job done
Girl everyone has to go to the grocery with kids at some point! Don’t stress. It’s a challenge sometimes but mamas gotta do stuff too! 🫶🏻
Just see what works for you guys! Not every baby is the same. Whatever makes him happy and comfy!! Practice makes perfect figuring out little ones!
You’re overthinking it 9 months he’ll be fine put your purse or diaper bag on one side by the time you have a second kid you won’t even think its a problem more than likely the time you come back from shopping you’ll stop and think that wasn’t so bad
