Hey mommas I would like some advice I have a 4 month old baby who has to take medicine due to acid reflux but he is extremely hard to get to take the medicine today’s liquid we tried squirting in the back of throat in the side of the his cheek none of that is blocking any ideas on how to get him to take this medicine is greatly appreciated
Should be able to mix it in formula or breast milk.
Reflux meds for babies usually comes in a powder form that you mix into a feed
Take the nipple out of a bottle and slowly pour medicine in it while he drinks or a pacifier works!
So this may sound like a horrible idea…and it took me 5 trips to the Drs office before I could do it myself, but my ped held my daughter upside down off her lap, and shot the med into the side/back of her mouth and blew in her face as she did it. It was the ONLY way we could get it down. Eventually she started taking it regularly
And i was also told NOT to mix with anything.
Put it in the nipple of a bottle
I used to just squirted in my daughter’s mouth and then put her pacifier in it right after because automatically she starts sucking so she would take her medicine at the same time cuz she had a hard time swallowing that medicine down two or even my finger stick your finger in the baby’s mouth and it’ll automatically start sucking so it’ll swallow the medicine
We always mixed my sons in with his bottle
Mix in bottle with formula or BM. Thats what i had to do with my LO
My baby takes Zantac for reflux. While she’s sucking a bottle, I stick the little syringe in the side and do it little by little.
my son had to take liquid Zantac. we could NOT mix it into his formula due to the strong minty flavor. i would just give it to him right before he was about to have a bottle so he was reeeeaaallllly really hungry. we never had problems !
Mix it with any flavor international coffee creamer. It masks the taste.
I have the same problem with a allergy med and my 6 month old… I put it in her mouth and then I put a wipe over her mouth… And after like a second or two she swallows it try that!!
I mixed it in with formula and as they got older juice. My 5 yo will take his meds no problem my 3 yo I either mix it, or shot it in hos mouth while holding his nose ( his GI dr told me to do it this way)
Put it in a nipple from a bottle. It was the only way I could get my son to take his medicine when he was little. Or mix it in with a little bit of breast milk or formula. Don’t use a lot to make sure he gets it all
Mu son is on two seperate reflux medicines… I have to wait untill before he eats next and give it to him when he is hungry to make sure he swallows it… And he has done just fine with it since.
Mix it in with his food
My son has a tiny medicine bottle that i put his medicine in and he drinks it like he would formula, it came with his essentials baby kit with his hairbrush, comb, nail clippers
I stuck it in her bottle ke mixed in in her food on the days she you refused it but most of the time she didn’t mind I t
I mixed it in my daughter’s bottle
I had a little medicine cup that had a nipple on it worked wonders also it’s at walmart
I think they make medicine binkis. Just put in the the tip of the binki but maybe add some formula or breast milk. Not a lot. Just a little. Also if you just put a little on the tongue and then blow on his face. Reflex will make them swallow
Lay him on his back and hold his nose while you squirt it in, he will swallow it
Hold his nostrils( pinch his nose)& shoot the meds in his mouth. Do it in small increments few seconds apart. Or you can mix it in 2 ozs of formula.
Blow in their face immediately after syringing the medicine in
We have the medi frida it helps a lot
Try putting it in applesauce. I
There is a dissolvable pill for littles. Ask your pediatrician. My son had one each day dissolved in a bottle until 9 months old. Hope little baby feels better.
Mix it in with some juice
Get the med bottle that has a nipple on it
A 4 month old is to young for applesauce/ juices/foods. Do a med cup with a bottle nipple.
All these people saying to pinch his little nose must be ok with possibly making their babies choke🙄
Don’t pinch your babies nose please
When my oldest wouldn’t take medicine I would slip the syringe into the side of her mouth when she was nursing cause she was not a fan of it still to this day 9 years later trying to get her to take medicine is like pulling teeth
Then there’s the boy and with him I had to put the medicine in a bottle nipple and now I have my 3 year old who gets mad whenever she doesn’t get medicine and her siblings do
Measure with a syringe, then Put it in a bottle nipple with a little milk, you’ll have to lay him down first, but works like a charm!
Does he have a lactose allergy?
We were advised to take acid reflux medicine and we had to supplement while breastfeeding. So I decided to do only soy.
Breastmilk- horrible spit up, miserable.
Soy formula- no issue.
My daughter really puts up a fight with any medication. We found that giving it to her a little bit at a time is more effective. Make sure she swallows and then give her some more
My daughter takes it. Just put it in the bottle and shake
YOU can’t put it in his food
If he takes a pacifier, definitely get one of those that dispense medicine. Helps bypass the tastebuds a bit a d especially if baby is already hungry he’ll suck it down without realizing what’s going on.
Plug his nose…sounds mean but it works
it into his mouth slowly
let’s try again, use a needleless syringe and inject the medicine into his mouth slowly
Mix it in with a few ounces of milk. Not the whole bottle because if they don’t finish it then it’s wasted.
Get a medicine pacifier or the nipple that attaches to the bottle. Please don’t mix it with an actual bottle. If the baby doesn’t finish it, they don’t get the full dose of medication and it becomes ineffective. This is what my pediatrician told me when we had to give my 6 month old antibiotics.
My daughter was on heart meds, it tasted awful and they couldn’t flavor it because it was a compound med. her doctors told us to put in the back of their mouth near the jaw bone and blow in their face. It’s forces them to swallow what in their mouth. Harsh but it works.
