My 3 year old is exhibiting signs of autism. Rewind: he was diagnosed THROUGH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM as having ECDD (Early Childhood Developmental Delay). He started school the week of Valentine’s Day and turned 3 April 4. He does not talk much. He says the basics and repeats words sometimes. The biggest thing is that when he was 16 months he had started to talk and stringing words together and now he has lost that. I know that this is a big concern and a sign of autism.
He has other symptoms as well such as melt downs not easily extinguished, doesn’t engage in play with other children, makes minimal eye contact when someone is speaking to him, needs routine, does bad with transitions, chews on everything and stares into space a lot.
I know some of these things people will say “he’s 3. It’s normal” well… this is what happened when I was first concerned when he was like 19m and it has not gotten any better. He has a well check today and we are getting him evaluated for autism. The biggest thing is if he isn’t MEDICALLY diagnosed our insurance will not cover speech or OT during the summer because it’s the school saying it.
Anyways, basically, any advice from anyone? He’s a smart boy. I think he just learns differently & I feel like getting him evaluated at this point is the best decision. Kicking myself for not doing it a year ago I know early intervention is important.

Get a diagnosis from an expert then get him plugged into services. Also find a parent support group to help you negotiate the road ahead. Bless you and your family.
Get him evaluated, get your diagnosis and get the therapy he needs. It sounds to me your doing everything you can and you understand him well keep going your doing well xx
Get a referral to a neurologist they will do brain scans and such then there will be a bunch of paper work if diagnosed that will help benefits and resources
You’re doing the right thing, take him to get evaluated and be 100% completely honest about all of his behaviors. It’s scary but worth it in the end. Sincerely an autism mom
Yes it is my grandson is the same way he has Autism and SPD, ADHD and I think odd and he is in the mean stage he uses profanity and for the life of me i can’t get him to stop.
Same with my sweet 5yo he’s was talking then stopped he was diagnosed with nonverbal autism last year your doing the right thing getting evaluated
As a mother of three on the spectrum and a special needs teacher, get the evaluation. It gives good baseline data and opens a lot of doors for services. The more services you can get the better! You’re right, they just learn different and the faster you learn how he learns the better advocate you will be for him!

My son was diagnosed at the age of 3 and has been able to get help all through school even put in special smaller classes to make sure he gets the help he needs he is almost 15 now
Childrens Neurologist if available. We see this wonderful guy yearly. Good luck and God bless. There is life with autism. Gram of autism child.
I have 2 nephews with autism and used to work with autistic children. He definitely has markers for it and you’re doing the right thing as early intervention is very important! Another thing you can look into in your area is aba services! Some companies will even do the evaluation. But aba services will make a big difference with early intervention!
See an neurologist asap get refurral from pedi. He Will be bright beautiful smart star someday. You got this, Mama
My son was diagnosed right after he turned 3. He went in for his yearly checkup and the pediatrician sent a referral over to a local program that does testing and in home thearpy.
My son does 40 hours a week of in home thearpy. Since starting he went from being non verbal to putting together partial sentences, December 2018 to now.
The process will all depend on your state.
Get him medically diagnosed asap so he can get propery therapy. Hes definetly sounding ASD
See a Developmental Specialist and in the meantime build a support system. Find your people wherever you can. Don’t lose yourself in this diagnosis, you will NEED your people to rally for you and your son (((HUGS))) Biggest piece of advice I can give you; acknowledge the struggles, conquer them, let go of the standard and celebrate everything.
