What can I do for my child for constipation?

Has anyone ever had to bring their child to the doctor for constipation? If so, was there anything they could do for them? My son is extremely constipated and we’re trying to push water, apple juice, prune juice and stool softeners but he is refusing it all.

My toddler just went in for a partial bowel obstruction and they are just having us do Miralax.

I put Miralax in Sweet Tea. You can put it in his drink. It does not have a taste.

Miralax mixed in apple sauce. If old enough to take a capsule then I suggest a flaxseed oil capsule once a day

See a reflexologist. It works miracles.

They sell laxative gummies we use for granddaughter and her doctor had us get the cloudy apple juice not the clear kind he said cuz that one causes constipation.

Please avoid miralax. Instead try plain Mineral oil in something he likes to drink daily. It lubes from the inside so it slides out easier. If he’s holding it in, you may need to see a dr bc this is a serious condition in children that can lead to a lot of complications and may take time and therapy to resolve. If you are feeding him a lot of fiber but he is not drinking enough plain water daily, this can also make the constipation worse.

Mirlax in juice or something. If anything doc would say do an enema or softener up the bum. White grapes or blueberries, cherries, raspberries may help maybe try a smoothie with the powder mirlax in it? Give like a half a cup to make sure he gets the mirlax. My some struggles with this too and keep explaining that if he doesn’t comply the doc with have to do the suppository or do testing in the hospital… I always sneak the mirlax in some koolaid and he hasn’t noticed yet lol just maybe once every other week to keep him regulated

They have small glyceran supposetories their little wax-like tubes usually makes them go immediately very gentle and doesn’t hurt them

They have suppositories for children they work or try a thermometer…that’s how my mom did it and I with my children .

He may have a fissure that is painful, maybe an enema.

Miralax and fiber gummies

Ah! This is the worst problem I’m having with my 6 year old

These are a life saver and they taste great. Won’t cause gas or cramping. Or the next picture.

Fruit and fruit juice. I would not recommend enema or suppository due to it may cause the spincture to becomming relaxed. If a Doctor tells you to do it then fine but without a Doctor I would not do those things. Even Hospitals stopped rectal temperature because of that problem

Yes, if it’s bad enough they put them on an IV & keep them for a night or 2. My friend’s son was hospitalized for over a week because of constipation.

The age of the child would be very helpful here. If he’s an infant juice & it meds are about all you can do. Dr may be able to prescribe something. If you’re breastfeeding stop consuming dairy. If he’s on formula switch to soy. If he’s older there’s medications like Mira lax but honestly fiber gummies is a good place to start.

Let’s end inhumanity!! I’m paying 5 grand to the first 5 people to message me “TOUGH TIME”

Castor oil on his stomach start with a couple of drops in his belly button and Epsom salt bath he needs magnesium but castor oil over night he will go in the morning my daughter had this problem for 8 years we tried miralax and everything get him some pedialyte too you can order castor oil on Amazon

Oh man I really hope you got this figured out but if not- my son regularly suffers from constipation so here’s what we do- prune juice is magical so even if you mix it with something he does like, you don’t need much to get things going. Miralax which you can mix into anything and it doesn’t change the taste. Soak in a warm bath and then massage the stomach. I don’t know how old your son is but there’s lots of movement techniques to get things movings for babies and they definitely help my 5 year old. Chocolate milk triggers my kid- normal milk doesn’t but chocolate does :woman_shrugging:. And if all that fails you can take him to the doctor or you buy an enema or a suppository or have your doctor call in a script for them. Those options suck! But they will get the job done. Good luck!!

I’m not sure how old your son is but we had good results from dark Karo syrup.

Mix liquid paraffin (from the chemist) in his dinner it has no taste and works a treat…Good luck

I would take him to a Doctor as some kids get scared to poop which makes the problem worse. Freshly squeezed OJ or eating lots of fruit will help. Never seen a kid turn down those! (Make a smoothie or a milkshake with it in if not!).

Magnesium lotion for toddlers! Mo’ Maggie Magnesium worked wonders for my daughter

Chia seeds worked well for my son :slightly_smiling_face:. Very high in fibre mix then with fruit puree

They have fiber brownies. Sugar free chocolate

Miralax mixed in Gatorade

Maybe just try prunes… My kids love them.

Sounds silly but try Dr. Pepper.

Watermelon! Fiber gummies. No instant cure. It’ll take a few days. Some kids are afraid to poop. They’ll hold it then get quite constipated. How old is the child? If little, use a thermometer dipped in a good amount of Vaseline- insert it in butt, take out and reinsert to stimulate rectal muscles. Wishing you luck, it’s difficult.

Courtney DeFerro lots of good suggestions

Miralax is not good for children. Do not give it to them long term.

Put them in a warm bath that is deep enough to cover his lower stomach!! Guarantee it will work and make them be able to go. I know it sounds gross, but have them go right in the water. The urge to poop will hit them in like 10 to 15 minutes. Short term cure but will work in that moment when they are having so much pain and trouble going.

These thing work absolute magic, depending on the age. No meds, instant relief.

Prayers for your son in Jesus mighty name  :blue_heart:

Fiber vitamins and probiotic vitamins help my child a lot.
