What can I do to better my health?

So it’s my birthday and I turned 34, I’m ready to take care of my body, what can I do to stay the course. I get time before work a few days a week and planning to start walking.

Walking is great! Mix it up with meditative practices like tai chi, yoga, meditation, plus strength (weights) training and maybe more aerobic exercise like Zumba or running a bit. Swim when it’s possible too. Attend to your posture all day.

Eat well: plan meals around colorful vegetables. Eat as few processed foods as possible, try vegan and vegetarian recipes once in a while. Use more herbs and spices and less salt and fat.

Buy organic dairy (no growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticides and who knows what else). See which fruits are most heavily pesticided and buy organic. Strawberries are, blueberries aren’t. Eat organic meats for the same reasons. Organic is usually better for you but don’t worry too much about the rest of what you buy.

Take vitamins. Ask your doctor what you’re at risk for and take supplements or eat foods that will stave it off. Spend time with people who make you happy and do stuff you enjoy. Learn new stuff to keep your brain sharp.

The key to a better old age is keep moving, mentally and physically.
