Okay moms! My son turned 1 back in January! So he’s currently 14 months now! I am looking into getting him involved in things this summer! Already looking into swimming classes around! But are there any classes other moms did, or day camps or just anything that you go into that helped benefit your child or that was fun during the summer?
We had lots of public pool fun and she started swimming so early. Hiking trails and collecting leaves. Also look at local mommy groups in your area. They’ll post events around your area. Good luck. Let the adventures begin!
Libraries usually have group activities for kids
Sidewalk chalk
Rock painting
Going to the park
Trampoline park
Hand painting
Slip n slide (water pad)
Freeze toys in ice and (dig for the toys)
Nature scavenger hunt (look for a colored bird, colored rock, etc)
Bubbles for days with different shapes and size wands
- good for rainy days
- Story time & more at your library*
- See what kids & family activities are available at your local park(s)
- Tumbling/gymnastics for toddlers at the RECenter*
- Splash pads, spray parks and kiddie pool places (some are indoors)
- Plant stuff in your yard or pots.
- Visit pets at a shelter. * Maybe take dogs on a walk. If you can take a trained older dog or cat home for a week or so to give it a break from being in a cage that could be fun. Mark the days until you take it back unless you want to adopt.
- *Have him help around the house if you clean it yourself: hold the dustpan, spray and dust whatever furniture he can reach, get a stepladder so he can help wash unbreakable silverware, pots and dishes, then he can dry them. Or help load unbreakables in the dishwasher and put in a dish soap pod and/or close the door and push the buttons. He can pour/put ingredients into whatever you’re cooking, push the buttons on the microwave, blender or food processor, operate the toaster, throw stuff away, put peelings in the sink, a soup pot or composter, put clothes in a front-loader washer, put laundry from the dryer in a laundry basket, help fold hand towels and washcloths, put his clothes on a cart and wheel them into his room and put them away anywhere he can reach.
- Look online for craft ideas, like putting paints in a zip-lock bag and squishing them around.
- Put on music and dance *
- Visit a local zoo, farm, animal sanctuary.
- Visit a kids museum * or gardens
- Read simple books together*
- Have a tea party with stuffed toys*
- Take naps*
- Wear sunblock and have him ride a trike or something else with wheels in a safe flat area.
- Toss a ball or balloon indoors or out
- Have picnics
- Look for frogs, tadpoles, fish, turtles, birds or whatever you find in a pond or stream
- *Get kids’ musical instruments and learn rhythm. Xylophones and little piano mats you can play with hands or feet are popular and not too annoying.
