How to treat toddler constipation when miralax and high fiber diet isn’t doing the trick?!
Probiotics and Magnesium. I had this problem with my own kiddos and started using a supplement with my 2nd kiddo and kept on with my 3rd! They take it faithfully
I have gastroparesis, a paralyzed stomach. Digestive Gold digestive enzymes help me tremendously! They’re OTC. Made in USA and non GMO, vegan & gluten free. These break down more than most. Helps break down fats carbs fiber and protein reducing bloating and nausea and increases motility. I take the one with probiotics in it. Have for at least 5 years. They do make a children’s chewable. This is a natural supplement. Helps break down the foods in the stomach before reaching the intestines. A game changer. I’ve gotten them for my granddaughter. Highly recommend.
I just had this issue with my boy and started him on a magnesium gummy and probiotic gummy high hopes this helps him! The magnesium one he has 2 and finally went so thinking it helped him. Otherwise pushed water thru him. Also cherries grapes apple with skin heard helps!
Water with sweet n low
Or Prune juice
Brown sugar dissolved in warm water
When they sit on the stool,.put something under their feet to raise the feet up some. Helps. Feet Hanging down it’s harder to go…
Teaspoon of prune juice everynight
My 2 year old had this issue the other day and hadn’t done a poo in 2 days which is very unusual for him. I gave him a pear to eat and a few hours later he did a poo.
Pear seems to work for my children, it always works.
Apple juice, blueberries, prunes
High fiber is not helpful and may be harmful even if it’s not accompanied with enough water.
Sweet potatoes; Packed with fiber and tons of nutrients. Also try berries, especially blueberries, and pineapple!
Try warming uo equal parts of prune juice and Dr pepper to drink
Tried Yogurt?
Handful of black olives?
There’s likely a fruit that’ll make them move
I would rub my kiddos feet with a no toxic oil like cocconut or olive oil in the mid foot where the intestines are per the chart. Rub them like a 7 or backwards 7 depending on the foot…
Have you tried a small amount of apple juice
Yellow dragon fruit but I would only do a little bit
It depends is their stomach hard are they complaining and crouching over in pain? If so an enema is needed do it yourself or go to the hospital. Have you tried a clean our recently get a 32 or 64 ounce bottle of Gatorade and put 4 full caps of miralax in there and shake it give it to them over a 2 or 3 day time period. My daughter has battled constipation since she was 18 months and if this is a recurring issue talk to her doctor and ask to see a GI Specialist maybe they also need another medication added.
These are the recommendations from my daughters GI Specialist also everytime they eat or snack sit them on the toilet for 10 or 15 minutes after so that they learn that they need to go and not hold it in. Toddlers have a tendency to hold it in because it hurts going out but it also hurts to hold it in as well you let gravity work with their body with the miralax which then eases the constipation. Best of luck mama it’s a struggle.
Fruit, especially blueberries.
Warm prune juice and milk of mag.
My daughter had this problem as a toddler. We stayed away from miralax and went the natural route. Peaches and prunes every day. Dole makes single packaged and my daughter thought they were big fruit snacks! She would only need one or two of those.
Benefibre is a very safe way of giving fibre to toddlers and children - no taste , easy to administer
I used 1 oz prune juice 1 oz pear juice mixed. Adjust ounces as needed but I would start with 1 oz each
Ask the pediatrician about lactulose.
Also ask if toddler can have kiwi or kiwi juice.
Consult the child’s pediatrician, not social media
Prune juice mixed with apple juice always worked for my toddlers. Prunes themselves would too if they’ll eat them- only one or two!!!
Orange juice or grape juice is what I always gave my kids.
My son’s GI doctor has him taking Pedia-lax chewables daily. It’s just magnesium. Before he was cleared out for the daily treatment, I had to use the saline laxative to loosen the impacted stool at the end so the chewables could flush the rest out. He’s been taking the chewables safely for six years.
I always bought the prune baby pouches they worked wonders
We’ve always did prune juice or given like a prune/pear puree. Lots of water.m
Plums, nectarines and peaches are really good
Prunelax! It’s a lifesaver, I get it off Amazon.
Sweet potatoes or apple juice
I fed my grandson Activia yogurt by mistake and it worked wonders!
Apple juice, prunes, raisins
My 4 year old has had constipation issues since birth. We’ve tried everything, GI specialists and all. She was on miralax daily and exlax. They were all temporary fixes. I finally tried something new earlier this year. I took her to a chiropractor that specializes in pediatrics. We are 3 months into treatment and havnt done exlax once and only had to use mirilax a couple times in 3 months! It’s been a miracle to answered prayers. No more crying or intense stomach pains. I highly recommend looking into it if it is a reoccurring issue.
Our 4 year old was constipated and our doctor had us give him mialax half a cap every morning
My daughter is on Lactulose helps loosen everything up in the body
Stay away from, or at least limit his/her dairy intake. Only give water to drink. Lots of fresh veggies, can add greek yogurt for dipping. Raspberries, Blueberries, bananas, Avocado.
You can also make him/her overnight oats.
3/4 cup of Almond milk, 1/4 of oats, 1 tbs of chia seeds, a little Greek yogurt. Make sure you put in the fridge for at least 3-4 hours, or over night to give the chia seeds time go expand. Add some honey and top with berries. Your little one will love it and be very regular in no time. This is the stuff that worked for my little one.
Water. Lots of toddlers and babies don’t drink enough water. Water I a natural lubricant
Prune juice , lots of water , fruit , pear juice , apple juice , apple sauce . Actually high fiber can make it worse, miralax shouldn’t be used as a daily med or be given to children under 12 not sure why doctors prescribe it as a daily med for small children .
Kefir …it’s like a yogurt drink with probiotics that can help with digestion
A lot of the above liquids mentioned, but make sure they are as warm as safely possible. Warmer liquids helped with my kids and also when I worked hospice. I’d not do medication until you’ve been advised to by pediatrician but prune and apple juice warm may help in the meantime.
Fresh blueberries and push water
When my daughter was constipated and withholding poop cause it was too hard. We did the laxative as well as an anal suppository to soften the poop at the opening. It really sucked for both of us, but it worked.
Get them checked out for yeast intolerance or gluten issues. Giving mine orange juice always worked a treat, even diluted. Giving an orange even better.
Concentrated grape juice works pretty good or applesauce
I feel like this is something you should be asking your childs actual doctor, not people who got their medical degree off of web m.d. There could be more to it than just constipation.
In my day all kids got cod liver oil. Noone was constipated
Senna syrup and miralax! 1 cap miralax and 5ml senna… its what my 3 y.o. takes. And it works!
